  1. Oh yeah...I think it's good that they were able to turn one into a serious enough prospect, not breaking or breaking the Cubs which of the two Well no, they're not going to trade him back to the A's for the same player Didn't Dickie Noles get traded for himself?
  2. I love when people are completely clueless and post horseshit that they think makes them appear really intelligent or enlightened or whatever masturbatory fantasy they are aiming for (in this case I'm assuming it's the vision of the perfect marriage) when in fact it proves just the opposite. The sign stealing by the Astros is FACT - is ANYBODY at this point saying it didn't happen? We are WAY past that point. So all the Bride Mchugh is highlighting to the world at large is that she is completely oblivious to the fact that her husband either just flat out lied to her or lied by omission and instead of reflecting on that little tidbit she is embracing her vapitude (it's not a word but it should be) believing it to be some indication of next level honesty in her relationship when it fact all it means is that she probably should get her hands on some anti-fungal cream.
  3. Was it her husband?
  4. Thinking that Yelich isn’t the best player in the division — as much as it pains me to say it — is irrational. Was Bryant even the best player on the Cubs?
  5. I think you're underestimating Clase who is really good, but yes it's a bad return. He may be overestimating Almora as well.
  6. I not sure I'm following why that's a negative for Verlander last season. It means Verlander's defense played much better behind him, and that he likely got a lot more luck in terms of batted ball profile than Lynn. Neither of those I would really give credit to Verlander for. Lynn gives up a lot more ground balls, which run a higher BABIP, but that's a huge disparity, and Verlander's fly ball tendencies led to a ton of dongs. Ok I get that and I agree that going forward you'd expect some normalization and if you're projecting for next season you'd tweek some numbers as a result. I guess I'm in the camp that if you're looking back, the numbers are what they are, and assessing value on what has already occurred based on what may or may not have been luck is a slippery slope. Looking forward - totally different. I also assume Verlander's BABIP can swing wildly from season to season because he allows comparatively few balls in play.

  8. Always was, my friend, always was.
  9. Nah, I'd remember that. Some guy from the 70s or 80s, maybe an Oriole, possibly Brian or Patrick in the name. I always remember the narrative but not the player...IIRC he also wore glasses Greg Luzinski?
  10. There's no evidence that Rizzo won't be a productive player at 32 - 33 years old, so I don't understand why some posters wouldn't want to extend him. The point was that some people thought he wouldn't be worth the money and yet they were willing to throw twice as much to pay Machado/Harper at 36 or 37 years old. They weren't arguing to only pay Harper or Machado that kind of money at 36-37, or only at 32-33, so it has nothing to do with an argument for or against extended Rizzo. I think the point is if you were paying machado/harper that kind of money you're much less likely to have picked up Rizzo's option this year. No?
  11. The guy who gave up 4 runs in 6 innings in Game 4 isn't getting any MVP votes, nor should he. Strasburg was better. I realize that - hence the first 8 words of the post - also thought it was pretty obvious that I was focusing on this particular outing.
  12. non-story. the astros bullpen has been great all year. Good job smoltz shutting this non-story down. Does anyone do more than Joe Buck to make baseball unappealing to anyone under 70? I’m sure it will be debated as if putting in Cole would have automatically shut the Nats down. If the Astros had scored anymore runs...maybe.
  13. CIndy has been hitting up his phone the last 2 innings.
  14. Vive Les Expos! Vive Les Expos! Vive Les Expos!
  15. I know he's not going to win it but man was that a baller performance by Corbin I'd think about giving him some MVP votes.
  16. 2 hits. Total. It was worse than Maddon pulling Hendricks. Ehhh, it wasn’t worse than the Maddon-Hendricks move. Yeah Hendricks was taken out in the 5th for one thing - put me down for not that big a deal.
  17. I'm not trying to make a profound point. I'm asking if he's less valuable with a new ball, and how that affects what one would reasonably sign him for I pointed out a few posts up that he hit decently well (especially for power) as a 21-24 year old in his first few years of the old ball. The ball isn’t going to affect his value, it’s the 2-4 other flaws everyone has pointed out about him (defense, low BB rate, below to average contact rate, etc.) Didn't somebody put up stadium overlay showing all the outs in Tiger Stadium that would have been HRs in Wrigley? Sometimes moves make a difference. That being said, you never really know. Remember when Soriano's move to Washington was going to sap his power and how Adrian Gonzalez's power was going to explode once he got out of San Diego?
  18. "We'll See" - Gust Avrakotos.
  19. I mean, they offered him a pretty horsefeathers deal, and it's not like he went to some bum ass team with no chance of doing anything. Still, to do it the first year he's gone; that's got to cross his mind a time or two during the morning comb through. Maybe it's time to rename the "Ewing Effect" the "Harper Effect".
  20. hahahahahaha this is perfect Well to be fair it's not like any other option would have left him broke.
  21. Well the numbers have gotten better each year so if that trend continues it won't really matter.
  22. How about at the start you have to pick 3 teams and lowest total wins the tiebreaker.
  23. I'd like to drop ALbert Almora and Add Pete Alonso. Thank-you.
  24. God Damn it! It's like they're not taking my fantasy line-up into consideration at all!
  25. I say no - you play it where it lays. Suppose he gets hurt again? That's the fun - the unpredictability. Don't you look at the last 3 years anyway?
