  1. And now, for no reason whatsoever... ...the observation that Theriot's numbers thus far are eerily similar to perennial Cubs' quarry Brian Roberts: G PA AB BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ 34 128 .297 .372 .484 .857 115 R. Theriot 35 142 .296 .369 .472 .841 116 B. Roberts What is perhaps most bizarre is the fact that Riot's SB% is 77.5% (7 SBs) while Roberts' is 62.5% (5 SBs).
  2. Nice inning by Heilman. Worked around the error.
  3. me too Is the hill supposed to recall old Crosley field? Be the answer yes or no, its still stupid. I've always thought it absurd that they were allowed to place a flag pole on the field of play. Why not place a windmill in short right? Add a "mini-golf" aspect to the game.
  4. I'm only keeping up on Gameday, but from where I'm sitting it appears that Ted has given up a few flyball outs that would have hit the scoreboard at wrigley. Is this the case?
  5. I attended that game with a few friends of mine who are cards' fans. From our seats in the 270 section, we couldn't see that part of the wall. We could only hear everyone cheer when he appeared to catch it, then go silent as he crumpled to the warning track. It was eerie to be right there and yet have no idea of the severity of the collision. On the plus side, the grim silence that fell over the stadium put an end to the circulation of "the wave".
  6. Fred may have beaten me to it, but I believe the Cubs are unbeaten this year when facing guys named "Sanchez".
  7. From this morning's Trib re: the losing streak: Reed Johnson: "For us, you feel like it's almost a playoff atmosphere every time out". This whole problem is psychological. Once they realize this isn't the playoffs, they'll start hitting again. Kidding aside, it's too early to panic. The cubs have had several minor injuries, and right now they're slumping. Hard. That is compounded by the fact that they are presently playing the hottest team in the NL. Over the past 7 days: Cubs: .241/.306/.295 Cards: .341/.412/.518 As much as it sucks to be totally outmatched by a division rival, at this early stage both teams have yet to regress to our respective means.
  8. They even booed Harden when Bruce got the single to drive in the second run. Are you certain they were not shouting "Bruce!"? This sort of confusion pops up at Springsteen shows all the time. And yeah, Glendon Rusch sucked terribly. I don't particularly care that he was "understood" to suck. When you are as awful a pitcher as Rusch is/was, part of your job is absorbing boos.
  9. Carpenter just left the STL Arizona game in the middle of the 4th inning. Cause and seriousness of injury presently unknown. (Gah. Beaten by a post.)
  10. Sharp first inning for Harden.
  11. Nope http://cubs.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20050618&content_id=1094574&vkey=wrapup2004&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Lee's amazing numbers in 2005 were the only part of that team that was watchable. I remember attending a Cubs' loss in Milwaukee in June of that year. At the time Lee was batting .395. Patterson led off and struck out 4 times.
  12. Stanton looked pretty bad: 1.0 IP 3 H 3 R 3 ER 0 BB 0 K 1 HR
  13. Bradley is a triple away from a ST cycle.
  14. No problem, although I post that link with the caveat that it doesn't update very often and the pitch counts should not be trusted!
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_03_23_chnmlb_oakmlb_1
  16. Has anyone been able to dig up a pitch count for Z? I would like to think that perhaps he was simply pitching to contact, "working on a pitch" as pitchers are supposedly wont to do in spring training. His GB:FB was 9:5, so not all bad.
  17. Another scoreless inning from Ascaino (0 H 0 R 0 BB 1 K). He's looked pretty good this spring.
  18. Gaudin: 2.0 IP 1 H 0 R 0 BB 1 K Cubs up 1-0 thru 1.5 on a Fontenot walk/DLee double.
  19. In other news Gallardo got knocked around by the Royals: 0.2ip 4h 7r 5er 3bb 0k 0hr. Apparently weeks committed a rather key error on a DP ball and things blew up from there.
  20. I didn't mean to imply that he was hurt; there was no game thread and (unfortunately) this seemed the thread most germane to the topic. I assume he simply got his at bats and then they sat him. I haven't heard anything to indicate otherwise.
