I am really hoping Ross keeps Tauchman and Morel in the lineup at Mancini’s expense. He’s been awful for a calendar year now, and needs to be seeing fewer at bats.
The Cardinals payroll looks like it will go up next year even before signing any free agents due to a few contracts rising in value as well as several players hitting arbitration.
They lose 3 of their starting pitchers.
Paul Goldschmidt has 2 more years left on his contract. His 5 and 10 kicks in next year.
There’s a pretty good argument to make that whether the Cards go for it next year or do a rebuild, this is the season they should trade Goldschmidt.
i don’t think they will. And if they did, I don’t think it would be to the Cubs, but he’d basically be the perfect fit for the Cubs’ roster.
Absolutely have to win this game tonight. Smyly starting. Pirates with a non-entity making his MLB debut. Brewers and Cardinals have already lost today.
These are the games a team that wants to get back in the race have to win.
We’re only a third of the way into the season and Steele is already 50 innings from his professional career high in innings.
I’m sure the Cubs are going to use any reason at all to limit his innings from time to time.
I also think his missing some time also contributes to it. Only 138 innings in 2022, missed all of 2020, and only 102 in 2018, Not seen as a work horse.
But he's 3rd in the Majors and 1st in the NL in innings pitched so far this year.
He’s a rookie, so it’s not a huge sample size, but the reverse split is pretty stark. .917 vs RHB and .438 vs LHB.
So this lineup makes no sense at all.
Per BR, Wisdom has a .5 WAR for the season, but Cubs’ third basemen have an aggregate -0.3 WAR.
I realize Wisdom hasn’t played at 3rd the entire time, but still, that gives a pretty picture how bad the other guys have been at 3rd.
We're at 5 weeks of being a sub-.333 team ever since that 13-0 win over LA. It's starting to be a pretty damn huge chunk of the season. Can this team actually end up with a worse record than last year?
