  1. 19-10 would be a pretty impressive finish to the year. It’s improbable, but not unthinkable. They’ve been playing at about that pace since around the ASB.
  2. Is there a point where Trout says, “Trade me or I’m hanging it up?” He’s 31. He’s had health problems several seasons in a row. He’s got 7 years left on his contract. The Angles are not going to be good any time soon. Might it not be best for all involved for Trout to go somewhere else and the Angles pick up a bevy of prospects?
  3. So, practically speaking, any of these players would have to get past the Marlins, Reds, Giants, Red Sox (if they still think they’re in it), D-backs, and Twins before they got to the Cubs.
  4. You’re right. Took me a bit to Google it because most of the top results were outdated. It seems since the elimination of the waiver trade deadline a couple years ago, nobody actually cares how waivers work any more.
  5. Matt Moore would be exactly what the Cubs roster needs. No way he makes it all the way through the AL, though.
  6. Blame Nazis and Communists.
  7. I know the Brewers have been hitting a ton during this streak they’re on, but in the aggregate, they’ve been a really bad offensive team. They only have two regulars having at least above average seasons (Yelich and Contreras). Their third best regular in OPS+ is Adames with 89. They’re 14th in the NL in batting average, 11th in OBP, 15th in SLG and 15th in OPS. The Cubs score .67 runs more a game than they do. If the Brewers win games 3-2, 2-1, ok, whatever. Tip the cap. Their pitchers shut the Cubs down. But if they score a bunch of runs, that will be really annoying.
  8. This is why I could never be a GM. I’d be handing Fulmer his DFA in the tunnel between the dugout and the shower.
  9. They best make hay this season. Subject to change with Org and Wash coming in, but in 2024 right now, they’ll be at MSU, OSU and USC, with Mich coming to Champaign.
  10. So, at this point Assad should stay in this starter slot and Stroman will go into Smyly’s vacated slot whenever he’s ready to come off the IL.
  11. I’m betting a clip of Dansby’s quote, “Golly, if they get rid of people, I’m going to be upset,” is up in the locker room somewhere with a picture of Captain America saying, “Language!”
  12. Matt Chapman will be a free agent. Chapman's obviously a better glove, but Jeimer is a year younger and actually stacks up against him better than I thought with the stick throughout his career, and is having a significantly better year with the bat this season.
  13. Those first five years with the Cubs Hack hit .331/.419/.612, with 177 home runs (led the League 4 times), 708 RBI and 30.6 bWAR. Offensive numbers were crazy at that time, but Hack was still a cut above everyone else in the NL. While Hack and the Cubs didn’t make the Series in 30, they did in 29, where they lost to an absolutely stacked A’s team with Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Left Grove and Mickey Cochrane. Tom Hanks’ character Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own was a composite of Hack and Jimmie Foxx.
  14. Really? Notre Dame taking their non-football sports to the ACC was the integral event in the disintegration of the original Big East. Notre Dame could put a stop to the eventual disintegration of the ACC and slow down the conference shuffle to a standstill tomorrow. All they’d have to do is announce they’re joining the ACC for football.
  15. They did change that bad throw by Madrigal from a hit to an error. So take away an ER for Steele.
  16. That’s a really generous base hit ruling on Madrigal’s throw.
  17. With Assad and Wes making multi-inning relief appearances on consecutive nights, it would make sense to send Kay down and bring up a fresh arm. Cuas?
