Yeah, Hendry's an idiot. He put together a great team. It's not his fault they completely blew it. They are NOT A GREAT TEAM. They are exactly the same team as last year when it comes to winning when it counts. So you knew that they'd choke like this after winning 97 teams? I'm not a Hendry fan (at all) but to criticize his performance in building the 2008 team is idiotic. He did all that he could. This is all on the players and coaches.

What can we really do? we have center field and MAYBE rf (though I doubt they'll give up on Fukudome already after shelling about 48 mil) to fill. I really don't expect much this offseason. They'll probably re-sign Wood and overpay for Dempster, then tell us how they've already built a 97 win team and they just need to stay healthy.

How can you guys possibly watch those right now? That's the last thing I want to do. It is depressing as hell to just think aout those now meaningless plays that we cared so much about.

The flipside of that is at least the Angels aren't getting swept out by a team that only won 84 games and was 13.5 games worse than them in the regular season. The Red Sox are certainly better than the Dodgers, but the "84 win" thing is pretty decieiving when tlaking about the Dodgers. If they had Manny and a healthy Furcal all season they would be well over 84 wins.

I was referring to several of the other hits he allowed. And yes, the ground balls that the fielders booted were also hard-hit. If he hadn't been unlucky they were booted, he'd have been very lucky they were at'em balls. He was adequate last night, but nothing particularly special. Whether you consider that "good" or not is semantics. He should have only allowed 1 run, and that on a home run from a guy who homers off of everybody. He was pounding the zone and was not just "adequate", he was the good Zambrano. Not to mention that ridiculous 2nd inning wore him down and made him throw a ton of pitches. If Derosa turns that double play I can say with confidence that he would have gone at least 7 innings, giving up just the one run. I can say with confidence that a pitcher giving up 1.25 baserunners per inning (excluding ROE) is probably not going to go 7 IP/1 run unless he is very, very lucky. Did you even watch the game? If Theriot uses his glove or Derosa turns the double play there's one of his ER taken off. If Zambrano finished the 7th instead of Cotts the 3rd run probably doesn't score. Boom, 7 runs 1 inning right there (that's no my speculation, that's simple math), and that's not even counting the fact that 2 of those baserunners shouldn't count since you can't expect a pitcher to get 6 outs in an inning. Also, how many of those hits were really hit that well? Furcal's was a bunt, that's not Zambrano's fault. The hit and run single that bounced off Theriot's hand wasn't his fault. I can't remember the other hits, but I do remember him throwing hard and pounding the bottom of the strike zone. Really guy, it's okay to admit that a Cubs player played well. It really really really pisses me off that all the jokers on ESPN last night and today were talking about how "the bad Zambrano" showed up. Give me a break. He gave up 3 runs- one of which wouldn't have occured if not for Theriot and Derosa blowing it, another on a Manny home run, and the 3rd when he was out of the game and Cotts allowed the run to score. He was throwing strikes and had great stuff.

By the way, I didn't find those pictures funny at all, and that's not because they were making fun of the Cubs. Good idea, just terrible execution. I laughed at the one with Dempster on the newspaper and that was about it. The rest just reminded me of that kid at parties who tries so hard to be funny and really he's just annoying and his materal is the stuff of 14 year olds.

You should. We are toast... As for next year? I'm worried about the continued declines of Soriano, Ram, and Dlee. You mean the continued declines of Lee? Soriano has shown no signs of declining at the plate. He had a typical Soriano year....and for much of the year he was putting up career number (rate wise). Ramirez hasn't declined, he's just different. His numbers were also brought down by 2 ridiculously bad o-fers.

After all that went on this season, it sickens me to see that board all happy and excited. That should be us. All season we laughed at how they'd flip out at the Dodgers when they were playing like little leaguers. Meanwhile, we were cruising to a 97 win season. Now, 2 games into the postseason everything has flipped around....just like that. Everything that happened in the regular season is meaningless...just like that. Sickening.

I'm not really optimistic at all, but in the year when the Cubs finally win the World Series, wouldn't it have to go like this? The Red Sox had to overcome a 3-0 deficit to finally win theirs, it only makes sense that we'd have to do something similar to end ours. By the way, when the Red Sox came back from 3-0, Joe Torre was managing the opposition. Just sayin...
