  1. By the way, Churchill told me that Wren called Towers last night and things may heat back up there
  2. what the hell was campbell doing? that was terrible
  3. where does that even come close to saying the trade is back on? all that is is the opinion of an agent...an opinion that most of have. of course it could heat back up. nothing new there.
  4. i think you're kind of looking for ways to trash the yankees. wang suffers an injury running the bases and he's injury prone now? joba might be overhyped, but i don't think he's really overrated- definitely not even close to being the most overrated in baseball. he's been spectacular so far both as a reliever and starter. even if he is a bit overrated, he's still extremely good. s for number 5 being mediocre at-best, i don't know about that. they're still after lowe and they've got some decent cheaper options also. asnyways, it's the number 5 starter, he doesn't have to be great. i still think hughes is going to get it back together and be really good. i don't think c.c. overuse/weight will catch up to him for a few more years either. that contract will kill them in the future but not for a while. that rotation is really good
  5. there's a lot wrong with this logic. putting aside the fact that our situation is completely different than san diego's (both financially and on the field), why do you think that was the offer? i'm sure it was better than that. plys the padres have zero leverage right now, so that kills the package they're going to get back. peavy's ntc is really going to cost them in what kind of talent they get back. when you basically have one or 2 teams that you can actually deal with, it's hard to get true value.
  6. btw cyno, you're selling the hawks short in the current title of this thread
  7. damn khabi... that was pretty soft
  8. no offense, but do we really have to keep going over this?
  9. Carl Pavano was an average pitcher coming off a career year. Ryan Dempster has Carl Pavano part 2 written all over him. Demp was always a high ceiling prospect, and had started an all-star game before developing elbow problems. He's had a few healthy years since then. Burnett is a much, much better comparison to Pavano than Dempster is. In a sense of health risk he is, but not performance. Burnett is good when he's on the field, the risk is his health. Dempster risk is his performance. As for the signing, it's way too much, but it's the Yankees. They can afford it. A rotation of CC Joba Burnett Wang Lowe/Hughes/kennedy/Pettitte is pretty filthy. Wth more potential signings to come from Boston/NY/TB, that division is going to be insane next year
  10. Why? The guy can rake. He's 36, is expensive, awful on defense, and I wouldn't say an .837 OPS for a corner outfielder is "raking". And yet many around here want Hermida, who put up less than .800 OPS in 2008. possibly the worst comparison ever
  11. Why? The guy can rake. He's 36, is expensive, awful on defense, and I wouldn't say an .837 OPS for a corner outfielder is "raking". well, I can understand the age, but he can rake it. I understand you define "rake it" different than I do. So be it. Ibanez hit .293 this season, with 23 homers, 110 RBIs, a .358 on-base percentage and a .472 slugging percentage. He is one of just five outfielders who have driven in at least 100 runs in each of the past three seasons. The others: Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Lee and Bobby Abreu. yes because rbis are such a good way to evaluate talent. sorry, a .472 slugging percentage from a corner outfielder isn't raking. he's a good hitter. A good hitter would have certainly been better than Fukudome. I don't think he's incredible or anything, but the comments of "oh thank GOD!" are a little over the top. first of all, i never said "thankg god". second, i don't know why you're comparing him to fukudome. fukudome sucks and is not an option for rf right now (at least not for jim and lou). it's been made very clear that jim is getting a lh rf, and we know who most of the prime candidates are. the other options are better, and that's why i said it's relifer. fukudome doesn't really have anything to do with this conversation.

  14. i like it
  15. marquis in new york sounds like it could be a lot of fun
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3764268 that's a relief
  17. Not if he keeps OPSing in the 600s. Actually, that's how good he is defensively, he's really out of this world as an outfielder. The Cubs aren't in a great position when it comes to Pie. Kosuke is going to get paid, so he gets first crack at the "disappointing left handed outfield bat that plays great defense" half of a platoon. Pie's not going to develop much as a 5th outfielder and there's no way they give him a starting OF spot, but his trade value isn't much to make it worth dealing him. JMO of course, but here's how I'd rank the output we'd get from some of the options we've heard, assuming a Kosuke/Johnson platoon in CF, and ignoring the contract they'd get. Bradley Winn DeRosa Hermida DeJesus Abreu Dunn Pie Ibanez Randy Winn? Really?
  18. really cris? did hester really "put on a show" tonight?
  19. if i had the choice right now of either taking the penatly or getting a perfectly thrown ball to hester on that play, i'd still take the penalty.
  20. yeah well lebron is going to leave cleveland soon so how about that
  21. this is the game/season right here
