  1. Is this is true it is very surprising. If true though, why wouldn't trhe Cubs do it anyways? Is Hendry tryong to get somebody for Marquis that actually helps us win this year? I thought he was just trying to dump his contract. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2008/12/cubsrumors1213.php#more
  2. that would have been weird http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2008/12/cubsrumors1213.php#more
  3. If you're going to point out that he got ehlp from Texas last year, then it's only fair you point out that he played in big time pitchers' parks every other season of his career...including Petco in 2007 when he still mashed. In 2003 he kind of broke out (althrough he had under 400 ABs) at age 25. Since then, here is where he has played before going to Texas 2004- LAD (26th in ESPN park factors) 2005- LAD (25th) 2006- OAK (24th) 2007- OAK (29th) 2007- SD (30th) His OPS+ team by team in that span was 108, 118, 114, 122, 167 (153 total in 2007) and then 163 last year. Last year he still had an .872 OPS on the road. In 2007 he had a .977 OPS at Petco and a .947 overall OPS for the season even though his home games were split between the first and second ranked pitchers' park that year. I'm obviously not expecting like a .950 OPS from him, but saying he'll have an .820 OPS is kind of silly, especially considering he'll be moving to a park that is consistently in the top 10 for hitters. Oh, and where are you getting 4/40 from?
  4. if he stays healthy, you'll love the deal... just because he's so fun to watch pitch
  5. But he's actually significantly better as a righty. His career OPS as a LHB vs RHP is like .798 or something like that.
  6. Yeah its a valid concern. As most people have said, I would put him in the Rich Harden "As long as he's healthy in October" camp. It's not like Reed Johnson or Fukudome couldn't shift over to right when the inevitable injury occurs I think the first option when bradley is out would be to move DeRosa to right and put Fontenot as second. Lou said he wants to get him more playing time anyways.
  7. i think i'd take it over boston's also Don't look now but my beloved "Red Sox" are making a move in the Peavy sweeps!!!!! :yahoo: Where did you read that?
  8. i think i'd take it over boston's also No love for the team that had the best ERA in the league last season? Beckett Daisuke Lester Wakefield Buchholz/whoever is that their rotation as of right now? I feel like I'm missing somthing vs CC Joba Burnett Wang Pettitte/Huges/Kennedy/Lowe/whoever I'd take New York's as of right now, even with Burnett's injury risk. Beckett is an injury risk himself, and I'm not a fan of Daisuke and the flukiestERA of all time. New York's looks really solid all the way through. They could very easily have 5 guys with sub 4 ERAs next year, and should have at least 4.

  10. http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2008/dec/12/s13padres-peavy-frustrated-trade-talks-cubs/?padres I bet he ends up with the Angels
  11. Hendry loves to overpay for mediocrity. Why not just let Pie and Fukudome fight it out for the CF job in ST? Hendry is going to end up paying Fukudome $12MM a year to be a bench player. Granted his numbers were not great last year, but he would be an acceptable CF if the Cubs sign Bradley. It's called a platoon, and outfield depth. 3m for a guy who had hit 303/358/778 and 333/399/848 against LH is a good move. Bringing back Johnson was a no brainer, I'm shocked anybody is questioning this move. If you have an unlimited payroll it is a decent move. But then don't complain about not having enough payroll to make a trade for Peavy or needing to move players to sign Bradley. I would much rather have Peavy and/or Bradley than Reed Johnson. I highly doubt that Johnson would stand in the way of a Peavy trade
  12. burke was once pretty highly touted but he just has done absolutely nothing at the plate
  13. seriously, why do people think randy johnson is so terrible? he's old, a big health risk, and he's eventually going to start sucking, but he didn't last year. for some reason a lot of people think he sucked last year or something
  14. Why? Johnson was really good last year and hasbeen over the last several years when he's been on the field I think he meant Randy rather than Reed. And so did I
  15. Why? Johnson was really good last year and hasbeen over the last several years when he's been on the field
  16. Randy Johnson is the pitcher highest on their radar. Do you know of any other pitchers that might be on the radar? Not really. They're focusing on Bradley right now, along with trading Marquis. Thanks. What do you think is the holdup on Bradley? It sounds like e want him and he wants to come here. Just contract haggling I assume, but do you think it oculd happen soon? I'm afraid the Rays are going to steal him from us. The holdup is probably Marquis. why? they needed to dump marquis to get peavy AND a rf. if they were able to add peavy's salary AND sign a rf before if we dumped marquis, then i don't see how we can't afford bradley as is.... especially when they've been much said this and said what the payroll will be.
  17. great win. like cyno said, they definitely didn't play even close to their best hockey tonight, but they found a way to win. good teams do this and hopefully it's a big part of the maturation process.

  20. I just heard from somebody that Lowe might be on the radar. Any truth to this?
  21. Well there's one outfielder taken care of. Is anything else going on?
  22. you're really using the word "replace" loosely
  23. Saito is interesting
