  1. how can you possibly say that when he has a career .823 OPS? How can you possibly keep throwing his career OPS number like it's supposed to predict exactly what he's going to do this year? You're including his first three season in the league (ages 22-24). It's like say that Sammy Sosa averaged a HR every 32 at bats in 1991 (age 22 season) and because of that it's obvious that he used steroids. Players get better and not everybody comes into the league and rakes right away. From 2003-08 Milton had an OPS of .879. And right on cue, here we go with the skewed Bradley stats to make it look like he's been a badass hitter over the 5 years. Saying he's been an .879 OPS hitter from 03-08 is dumb. No, more like he's been a 1.000 OPS hitter for the last 600 at-bats (most of which came in Texas, big surprise) and has been his typical .820ish OPS guy the previous 3 years 04- .786 05- .835 05- .818 so uhh, yeah... he's been an .879 OPS guy for the past 5 years. Except for those 3 straight year where he, uh, wasn't The reason I talk about his career OPS is because he's performed to that level for most of his playing career. You know how many seasons he's had with an OPS over .835? THREE And that's being really generous, considering the total PA's of those 3 seasons really add up to about 2 full seasons worth of at-bats. I don't understand why this guy continues to get some kind of free pass, like he has an awesome track record of hitting or something, and he's sure to turn it around. Guess what guys? For the vast majority of his career, he hasn't been a great hitter.
  2. I seriously can't believe a move hasn't been made. Get your fat ass on the phone and get SOMEBODY, Jim. Seriously. Now we're down 3-0 because our crappy 2B is forced to play 3B where he sucks and the guy we're playing at 2B is a career minor leaguer who can't even hit a sac fly. Like I said, to be in this situation because of one single injury when we have a payroll this big and are in "win mode" is an absolute joke. Thanks for the depth, Jim.
  3. patterson is swinging a plunger in that picture
  4. better than ovechkin. crosby is a true superstar
  5. what is will carrol ever talking about
  6. how can you possibly say that when he has a career .823 OPS? you're supposed to look at his entire body of work and take into account that 2007 was really like 2 months, and that in 2008 he played in a ridiculous park and had a ridiculous babip. he had an .870 OPS away from arlington last season. i thought he'd be good, but i never understood why people were acing like it was a sure thing that he'd be some great hitter when healthy. he's been a great hitter for a very small portion of his career.
  7. kind of funny how you keep turning it into an argument about crosby even though i'm saying nothing about him. i'm talking about your useless obsession. hence the "you just don't get it" post.
  8. So I'm a liar because I've been saying he'd be a big letdown from Day 1 and I have the posting history to prove it? And not just a liar. An expletive liar. Oh my. Well you can be the last one to go down with the ship Cap'N. Bradley never convinced me, because these .765 OPS corner outfield jokers can make parts of seasons look good and yes, a .400 BABIP in Texas is ultimately quite convincing. And nobody would have any idea he'd have injuries to his legs. Give me a break. for some reason a lot of people here continue to insist that bradley has had some kind of badass hitting history when he's on the field, even though the numbers clearly show that to be false. "but if you look at his road numbers for seasons x, y, x, and omit this portion of the numbers, and take into account his age, and multiply by the square root of number of plate appearances, he has a career .868 OPS"
  9. you just don't get it don't you realize how jealous you sound of him? seriously. i hope like 10 years from now you look back at all these posts and realize how ridiculous you look
  10. seriously though, you don't think there's anything wrong with a supposedly huge blackhawks fan rooting for detroit just because there's a player on the other team you don't like?
  11. YOU lost respect for me??? I'm DEVASTATED! Let's focus on the league 6 minute love after a goal love compared to my hate. okay. one is really creepy and the other isn't
  12. i'm not even joking when i say i've lost a lot of respect for you this last week. seriously, this whole crosby thing is getting really creepy.
  13. i remember when i stayed at the same hotel as the cubs last year in miami i was standing in the elevator and it stopped on a floor to pick some people up. my and a couple other people in the elevator had just got back from the cubs game so we still had our cubs stuff on. the door opens and jim edmonds in all his glory is standing there. there was like a 5 second awkward silence as he just stared as us. it was really weird. eventually he's like "uhh, i'll catch the next one." then the elevator door slowly closes as edmonds is still just staring as us really weird moment
  14. i don't know. with the way this organzaition seems to be headed (aging sluggers, big contracts, etc) i think trading away a good chunk of your remaining good prospects for a rental of holliday seems like a bad idea. we can't afford many more bad moves. i know we'd get the picks, but with our recent drafts that doesn't as appealing. if it came down to holliday or nobody, then i'd almost rather keep the prospects. i just don't see holliday as the piece that pushes us over the top, especially when it forces soriano to second. i don't think holliday is THAT good
  15. well if the price is right i'd be interested, but it seems like he's going to be THE bat that everybody wants to get. i feel like we'd have to compete with several teams to get him, and the price will end up being pretty high.... especially with the way he's heating up
  16. tell it to those jokers p.s. who is that dude
  17. Where did I say I think he's a "badass .900+ OPS guy?" when we're talking about giving up a really good package of prospects and moving to soriano for a 3 month rental, don't you think it should be for a badass hitter?
  18. In the road numbers you just posted, you really don't see a clear trend? Where did I say I think he's a "badass .900+ OPS guy?" We're not talking about Coors numbers. well we should be, considering those are the only numbers to make you think it's worth prospects and crippling defense to get him for 3 months and yeah, i see that his road numbers were getting better. the point is that they've never gotten to the point where you say "good prospects + soriano at 2B for 3 months of holliday? sign me up!" when you consider what we'd have to give up, the fact that he's a rental player, and the fact that we'd have soriano at second, a high .800's OPS isj ust not worth it. if we're doing all that, we'd better because some badass kind of mannyesque hitter. holliday is a nice hitter. he hasn't shown to be an elite hitter at anytime outside of coors.
  19. +1 wait, so you make a useless post to show your disdain, instead of actually contributing and saying where i'm out of line? i don't believe it i bet to feel pretty big when you take shots behind a keyboard though. you must get laid so much. the funny part is that when i saw you had posted in this thread i knew right away that would be the same unjustified garbage from you. how aobut you break the mold and tell me how i'm wrong to think that a guy of zambrano's "character" shouldn't be the one player that fans unanimously like the most. is it his declining performance? his childish behavior? his temper? the way he constantly disrespects his teammates?
  20. bs. no way a guy as competitive as big z would retire that early, assuming he's still effective. it's not easy to replace the ability to compete.
  21. my favorite z is still the dugout z when he's not pitching. especially when the cubs win on a walkoff home run. he's always the first one to home plate bouncing around like a little kid. you can say a lot of bad things about z, but the guy wants the TEAM to win.
  22. it was mind boggling that he thought it was okay to trade derosa AND sign bradley. i mean, seriously.
  23. Meanwhile were looking at a washed up Rich Aurilia, a journeyman Russ Branyan or a bust Wilson Betemit to help save us. but even branyan would be better than what we have. i don't understand how we can keep trotting andres effing blanco out there every day when you consider this organizations situation. i mean, really. one injury and we're forced to play complete trash every day? and it's not like ramirez being out for a while is something you couldn't have predicted. i mean obviously nobody oculd have predicted he'd suffer a severe injury that owuld sideline him for months, but he often has trouble with his legs and has to go on the dl at some point almost every season. how can we not have a backup 3b. miles? freel? blanco? scales? those are the guys we had to fill in foro ur best player? c'mon. remember how deep our team was last year? last year we were looking for a way to get a .900 OPS bat (fontenot) in the lineup. now we're looking for a guy who can ops over .700 I woudlnt have predicted that Ramirez would miss such a large chunk of the season. Yeah, things like that happen, but it not an assumption. did you even read the sentence right after that?
  24. Was that the same game when I think Rolen hit a home run, and the very next pitch Z nailed Edmonds and walked off the field? Didnt bother waiting to be thrown out or anything. Not that was a classic Z moment. Yep, in 2004. It was one of the most intense non-playoff games I'd ever seen, with the lead going back and forth throughout. Z gave up I think his second HR of the day to Rolen and, on his very next pitch, he drilled Edmonds in the lower back. hitting guys because you're pissed that you just gave up a game winning homer is awesome
