  1. who was it?
  2. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
  3. i don't think anybody is blaming the season on bradley, but let's not act like he's been anything other than a big dissapointment this season. the obp is nice, but we didn't pay 30 million for a good obp. .263/.392/.392 and a 103 OPS+ is pretty terrible for a corner outfielder making what he is. he's been a huge bust so far. also, he hasn't been the cubs best hitter since the break. derrek lee and fukudome have both been better. WAY better actually. like, not even a remotely close comparison.
  4. i see no reason not to let guzman try. nobody else has earned it. plus maybe it will give him a little closing experience and maybe be the closer next year too.
  5. let's be honest..... it's a huge surprise that he even made it this long.
  6. I love walking a .728 OPS hitter for an .840 OPS hitter.
  7. The bottom line is that there are 4 teams ahead of the Cubs in the wild card race, and all 4 are better than the Cubs. We can talk about schedule and all that, but this just isn't a very good team. The offense and back end of the bullpen just won't allow them to go on any kind of huge run.
  8. Gregg puts the final nail in the coffin of the 2009 Cubs. Seriously, I almost wasn't even upset when Headley tied it up. When you walk David Eckstein in the 9th inning of a 1 run game, you deserve to get burned. I almost would have been pissed to see him get away wih that. And lololol at the home run pitch. Absolutely terrible. It's ming boggling that his numbers have been decent in the past. His stuff is pathetic.
  9. They are averaging 4.48 runs a game. You'd rather get 3 runs a game than average 4.48 a game, just because it might be more consistent? I'm by no means a stat head whatsoever, but how skewed is that statistic. Just because you average 4.8 runs a game does not mean that you usually get 4.8 per game. We have had a few really big games this year that bump that up considerably. Obviously this doesn't happen often but that 17 run game a few days ago plus three one run games avgs near that figure. I could be wrong here, but it seems like we have had an unusual amount of games that we just can't score a run to save a life. Instead of adjusting to that a few innings in and try to scrape for some runs, Lou seems to just cross his finger for that one big inning and we end up losing by one run. What teams consistently manufacture 3 runs every game? I don't have an answer for that. I rarely ever pay any attention to how another club scores its runs. From watching this team, day in and day out, I see a team that could benefit from playing smaller ball on occasions. This team seems to have slumps together and go on tears together. When everyone on the team is having a power outage, why not try a different approach until they start pulling it together. When a team is struggling to score runs, the last thing you want to do is give away more outs. I'll say this again- Ryne Sandberg's offensive philosophy = Dusty Baker's offensive philosophy

Cubs projected win-loss this season (based on run differential): 60-55 Cubs actual win-loss record this season: 60-55

  12. Sandberg isn't managing like that because he's trying to develop them like that. He's managing like that because that's his offensive philosophy. If he becomes a major league manager, he'll be doing the same thing, and that's counter productive to scoring runs. Ryne Sandberg's offensive philosophy is highly similar to Dusty Baker's.
  13. It's only as Sandberg the manager though
  14. I have a feeling you'll be saying that all year long. After one game, a preseason game? Once Cutler gets comfortable I doubt we'll see too many Grossmanesque throws like the one tonight. cutler throws a lot of picks
  15. If the 2008 was a better team than 2007, how, exactly, has it gotten "progressively worse"? What? I said LOU has gotten progressively worse, not the team. You do realize a manager doesn't really make that much of a difference, right? Yes, and I pretty much already said that. I don't really know what that has to do with anything though. All I said was that I can see why some people want Lou gone.

  17. Because he's a poor manager? "What are you talking about?!? He won us back to back division titles and won 97 games last season!" Seriously, Lou has gotten progressively worse since he's gotten here, and has been flat out BRUTAL this season. I'm not even saying he should or will be fired, but come on. There's a very good reason a lot of people want him gone. Stop looking at win/loss records to determine how good a manager is. Look at the moves he makes and what he does. If you do that, it's easy to see that he's been pretty awful.
  18. uhhhhhhh.... aaahahahahaa
  19. the 2004 team was actually good
  20. Yeah, he was [expletive] horrible in 2007 and 2008. Oh, wait. Oh wait what? Did he not regress since he became a cub? He hasn't come close to his numbers that he had as a National. He's had leg injuries that sapped his speed. He was a "supposed" 40/40 guy he hasn't sniffed that here. I don't like him as a player and he's overpaid, the Cubs will be affected by his contract in years to come. Look at his numbers now and imagine how bad he will be 2 years from now and on. soriano's stolen base numbers HURT his team in 2006. and no, his offensive numbers didn't decline in 07 and 08. they were actually 2 of the better seasons in his career, rate wise
  21. soriano didn't regress until this season
  22. that's just stupid
  23. seems like he knows he's going to be on the 2003 list so he's admitting it now and making sure everyone here's it so he can be like "well, i told you i was on it" when his name comes out.
  24. if anything, that idiot should have thrown his beer at lou or one of the cubs players. hey, we're getting raped by a better team... what should i do? I'LL THROW A BEER ON HIM
