    levine just retweeted that, so he must be hearing the same. if the cubs are out on ohtani, they should have a slew of moves coming

    okay maybe i'm wrong, but i'm considering doubling down just for the arguments, because these meetings are that boring

    it did work out, but i believe that even if the issues you mention with the other 3 didn't exist, they'd have still been shopping in the sub-200 million range i think ohtani is a special circumstance, and that if we miss on him, we'll blow right by soto and move onto the next tiers. i still expect the cubs to be good going forward, but i'm sick of this pattern of not getting the elite guys.

    i don't believe they were ever willing to give a 300 million dollar contract out last year

    that's not the point. they'd have preferred correa/bogaerts/turner if they were all priced the same. they chose dansby because he was the cheapest.

    still early and jed could surprise me, but this is feeling exactly like last year. all those rumors about how the cubs were going all out and might get 2 of the top shortstops, only to end up shopping in the 2nd and 3rd tiers... again

    there haven't been any rumors for the dodgers either. i think the cubs and la are still the most likely outcomes, with toronto and the angels in the next tier. i still would take the dodgers over the field
