  1. i don't get how this is even that different from other big free agents from past offseasons. we know the teams in on him, we have a general idea of what he's going to get, and it's only december 6th, so it's not like he's taking forever. it feels like every other big FA to me.
  2. i said besides soto. altuve and goldy are old, alonso and bregman are likely to re-sign with their current teams, and gleyber is not exactly exciting.
  3. isn't that m&m anecdote making the opposite point as you?
  4. the bats are going to be hoskins and candelario, aren't they
  5. i just looked at the hitters hitting FA next offseason (outside of soto), and it's not pretty. it would be great if jed could swing a big trade that we're not expecting.
  6. I'd take cerami over bob
  7. bob says the cubs bowed out because 500 was too much
  8. levine just retweeted that, so he must be hearing the same. if the cubs are out on ohtani, they should have a slew of moves coming
  9. okay maybe i'm wrong, but i'm considering doubling down just for the arguments, because these meetings are that boring
  10. it did work out, but i believe that even if the issues you mention with the other 3 didn't exist, they'd have still been shopping in the sub-200 million range i think ohtani is a special circumstance, and that if we miss on him, we'll blow right by soto and move onto the next tiers. i still expect the cubs to be good going forward, but i'm sick of this pattern of not getting the elite guys.
  11. i don't believe they were ever willing to give a 300 million dollar contract out last year
  12. that's not the point. they'd have preferred correa/bogaerts/turner if they were all priced the same. they chose dansby because he was the cheapest.
  13. still early and jed could surprise me, but this is feeling exactly like last year. all those rumors about how the cubs were going all out and might get 2 of the top shortstops, only to end up shopping in the 2nd and 3rd tiers... again
  14. welp we didn't get the best player in the world, time to move on to rhys hoskins
  15. a serious organization would pivot to soto immediately
  16. i don't know, but he said he was getting pretty close to being confident enough to write an article about it
  17. jesse rogers is on the radio saying he doesn't think it's happening for the cubs
  18. not saying you're wrong, but god that would be boring. who would the best player on that team? dansby? and who would be the best bat? seiya?
  19. i think stephen a picked it up after bob, but i could be wrong
  20. didn't nightengale break lebron to the heat, or am i misremembering? i think that's how he made a name for himself
  21. it's probably him talking out of his ass, but maybe the cubs know they're out so they don't care about leaks anymore
  22. idk, he could have heard it second hand
  23. he sucks, but this kind of sounds like it's coming from a cubs source?
