    we've done this a million times, but I'll do it one last time. you have every right to be mad at the cubs. we all are. the ricketts suck. jed is operating like a small market gm. the cubs are a disgrace in many ways. nobody is defending any of that. the annoying stuff is the reactionary nonsense and the pouty assumption that nothing will happen this offseason. for example, when a japanese reliever signs for pennies, the logical reaction would be "wow, teams must not think he's good", not "wow, the padres schooled everyone, jed must be asleep still lolllll". but I'll bow out of this thread again

    maybe consider taking a break and check on the cubs in a month or two if every little bit of news is going to enrage you what's funny is that this place has always been as negative about the cubs as anybody, but some of you keep forcing us to defend them

    I don't know how many times we have to have the discussion about how most of the cubs' rumored targets are still on the market. when you consider what they spent last offseason, it's pretty clear what the plan is. they're trying to get deals on bellinger and the other guys we have heard about over and over. will it work? I don't know, but it's pretty clear that they plan to spend (intelligently, of course) this offseason. it's embarrassing that they aren't in on the top guys, and it's pretty ugly right now, but they are not punting 2024. now please start hating the cubs for the correct reasons

    i get that, and it's annoying, but it felt like you were replying to my post about jed not being aggressive. of course he's trying, and i still think we'll end up with an alright offseason, but saying they aren't being aggressive isn't the same as saying they aren't trying. the wait-for-bargains strategy just sucks. it might end up working out, but i don't think it's how this team should be operating.
