try a 47/48 yard field goal with an unreliable kicker, knowing that the game is over if you miss? no thanks. if they had made it, there would have been enough time left on the clock where even if you didn't get the onside kick you could stop them and still have at least a chance. now they pretty much have to have the onside kick
