  1. i haven't heard anything about doubleheader plans. does this rainout and the day off Monday mean we can just use the regular starters?
  2. i almost wanted them to lose so i could test out my new powers
  3. i think i'm actually more annoyed that the stupid brewers keep winning in bs fashion than i am about the cubs.
  4. i just don't know why you have to pretend like this isn't baseball, and that the cubs are pre-determined to be awesome. like kyle said, the 2015 nationals can happen to anyone. i shouldn't be predicting it to happen, but you shouldn't act like you know it won't. i think you want to be anti-meatball so much that you've basically become a new york sports fan. It’s not personal with me and you either. I guess what is the hard evidence and facts that you think this team will suck? I just never see you providing evidence for your claims? The 2015 Nationals sucked btw. Scherzer was their 10th rated offensive player by war, they only had 2 guys over 2 WAR and only 5 guys between 1 and 2.3 WAR. They were a horsefeathers team with horsefeathers players like Denard Span, Danny Espinosa, Yunel Escobar, Ian Desmond, Clint Robinson and broken Zimmerman comprising their offense around Bryce. They were also managed by Matt Williams. for some reason i thought their rotation imploded that year
  5. this is actually kind of true. seeing the blackhawks descend into a lifeless group of ghosts has made me terrified of the cubs good times ending faster than we thought they would. the nfl is trash and the bulls are forever in purgatory, so this is all i have for sports. I mean if the Cubs give us a run like the Blackhawks did (3 championships and multiple deep playoff runs, I don’t really follow them, over 6+ years?) why wouldn’t you take that if it means the team sucks for a bit in like 2025 i never said the blackhawks were anything short of a massive success, just that i know how sad it is when that kind of magic fades away

  7. whatever, you guys sound like horsefeathering robots half the time. we were all hoping for a much better start than 21-17 36 hours ago the Cubs were playing at a 95 win pace. Taking a moment to not tie every frustrating thing that happens in a baseball season as some sign of tragedy or ultimate disappointment is healthy perspective, not being a robot. It’s not never getting upset, it’s understanding that the frustration you feel in the moment is not indicative of the larger whole. and less than a week before that they were playing at like an 85 win pace. the aggravation comes from the fact that the "larger whole" keeps appearing to take shape, then they horsefeathers the bed again and have to start over

  9. The Blackhawks being awful has broken his brain this is actually kind of true. seeing the blackhawks descend into a lifeless group of ghosts has made me terrified of the cubs good times ending faster than we thought they would. the nfl is trash and the bulls are forever in purgatory, so this is all i have for sports.
  10. at this point you're just putting your fingers in your ears and saying "i can't hear you" Ok, I'm done communicating with you for the year. okay, but i hope you realize that i am complaining about a stupid sports team and you're trying to make this personal and act all offended about it.
  11. at this point you're just putting your fingers in your ears and saying "i can't hear you"
  12. whatever, you guys sound like horsefeathering robots half the time. we were all hoping for a much better start than 21-17
  13. intentionally misunderstanding stuff like this is part of the reason i get annoyed at faux confidence. things were never going to be as good as they were in 2016, but we all thought they'd be better than they have been since then. How am I supposed to interpret it when your words were literally "you're lying if you say things haven't been on a downward trend since the world series" Um, sure, we went a whole year without winning the World Series. Let' all turn into jamfan! because i obviously was talking about the trend in regards to expectations, while already taking into account the inevitable regression we were going to have after the last 2 offseasons of puffing your chest and penciling the cubs in for high 90s wins (while completely dismissing everyone else in the division), i think you understand what i'm talking about. the gap between us and the rest of the division has gotten smaller than you thought it would, quicker than you thought. honestly reading all this "cubs are awesome, the end" stuff is half the reason i post all this horsefeathers
  14. well we've already discussed how the 2017 season was oddly disappointing, and how we were supposed to be great again this season, so we don't really need to do that again. you're lying if you say things haven't been on a downward trend since the world series, but i understand that there should be more leeway since they've accomplished so much but really you guys should at least admit that bitching about game thread bitching is just a different (less annoying) way of venting frustration over the cubs losing games I get venting and that’s fine but it’s just oddly weird to me when the venting seems like legit thinking this team isn’t good. In this individual game, yes there was some suckiness. But what do you think is going on that makes this team suck and be on a “downward trend” that you can back up with stats? It just seems so over the top to me to think the team sucks. Venting to me is being pissed a hard hit ball from Kris didn’t win the game or some of the stupid/bad defense. Not claiming doom and gloom that this team sucks and will always suck. the downward trend thing was more about the organization talent level than the actual results. it feels like we've had some moves that are blowing up, we have a couple young guys who are a disappointment (mostly russell), and some of the guys we let go (because we had to) are looking like mistakes. it just feels we went from completely loaded to just being in pretty good shape. maybe we should have expected it, i don't know. but honestly, the rotation is worrisome because of how much they've invested in it, and how much we're counting on these 5 guys beyond just this year. if they continue to suck, it's going to be really hard to find assets to fix it.
  15. "Since reaching the highest mountaintop, we've gone downhill." intentionally misunderstanding stuff like this is part of the reason i get annoyed at faux confidence. things were never going to be as good as they were in 2016, but we all thought they'd be better than they have been since then. they're not as disappointing as i;m making them out to be, but it's been a struggle to feel good about them since then.
  16. well expectations used to be higher than getting excited about a 5 game win streak against bottom feeders following a 5 game losing streak i'm just sick of the cubs constantly being worse than they should be For the millionth time, they've won 292 games the last three years, been to three straight NLCS, and won the World Series. What the horsefeathers are you talking about? well we've already discussed how the 2017 season was oddly disappointing, and how we were supposed to be great again this season, so we don't really need to do that again. you're lying if you say things haven't been on a downward trend since the world series, but i understand that there should be more leeway since they've accomplished so much but really you guys should at least admit that bitching about game thread bitching is just a different (less annoying) way of venting frustration over the cubs losing games
  17. this fake confidence just comes across as desperate now It’s not confidence, it’s just mostly common sense knowing this is a good team. The constant complaining and doom boonering isn’t a great look on you either. Did u even enjoy just winning 5 in a row or were u just waiting for the first loss to make complaints? well expectations used to be higher than getting excited about a 5 game win streak against bottom feeders following a 5 game losing streak i'm just sick of the cubs constantly being worse than they should be
  18. this fake confidence just comes across as desperate now You being self-aware doesn’t make the tantrums with every loss easier to read. it's the game thread and the cubs are disappointing as hell, go get a haircut without tipping if you don't like it
  19. Probably early September after they clinched, it will be great. this fake confidence just comes across as desperate now
  20. it's okay they'll score like an extra 7 garbage time runs in a blowout that will be just as fun as that
  21. i think it would still be just as fun if they stayed as good as we thought they would
