He’s getting paid $10m to be a top 50 pitcher in baseball while the dude we traded for him struggles to hit a .300 OBP. I was hoping for better, but we’ve done far, far worse. It doesnt matter what eloy is doing. his value when he was traded was immense and we got a complete bum for it. -

quintana is one of the most disappointing cubs in my lifetime -
as much as i believe in the brewers bs magic, i don't care if they win the division or not, because i'm not concerned about them in the playoffs. that team is not winning the world series. yeah crapshoot blah blah blah. they aren't going anywhere. well, they're going to the playoffs. but they'll lose, and this stupid run of theirs will once again mean nothing. they currently own us, but who cares. we've won a world series in recent memory, and we'll go into next season with a better roster than them.

It's almost like run differential is a nearly meaningless stat. i mean, outscoring your opponent is the way you win. they deserve credit for winning the close games, especially when hader is a big part of it, but the point is that you don't put up a winning record while getting outscored without a good amount of fortune. it's like people got so sick of the RD differential talk (i did too) that they're going too far the other way and acting like runs scored/allowed is irrelevant or something. they deserve credit, but they've had a charmed season with a weak roster. if they don't win the world series, i doubt brewers fans are going to be optimistic about the future based their ability to win nearly every close game. then again, baseball fans are dumb.

it's weird because as disastrous as this season was, i actually feel better about the cubs going forward than i did last offseason. a lot of the most important players with question marks bounced back this season. contreras, bryant, rizzo, darvish, and schwarber all had years that signficantly boosted the outlooks of their futures. they are all a year older and all have a year less control, but i am waaaaayyyyyy more optimistic of that group (and their current trade value) than i was 6 months ago. the core is dysfunctional as hell and needs to be broken up or changed around, but the talent and value players is still there. if i had faith in theo (i don't know if i do), i'd be confident that we have enough talent and resources to go back to winning 90+ games just by switching things around.
