    Maybe he really wants Geoff Jenkins or Shawn Green and he's just making a show of interest in Fukudome to get Jenkins/Green to lower their demands. Sadly, I can totally see Hendry go for both of them, especially Jenkins. Is there ANYONE who thinks Jenkins would be an upgrade over Murton?! WHY CAN'T JIM SEE THIS!?!?!

    W/L for a pitcher mean nothing. The fact that he 122 ERA+ (IIRC) playing in the AL East tells us a lot more. If your intention was more to point out that he didn't have all that many starts against AL East teams, then I would buy that.

    Uh-oh. You used the g-word. You're right. Let's keep Theriot and see how Eckstein can do at second. Erstad is a no-brainer to replace Derrek Lee at first. Eric Byrnes just signed a large contract, but I think we could trade Pie straight-up for him. But seriously, the Red Sox did not win because they were gritty. They won because they compiled around a .910 TEAM OPS in the World Series. The whole flippin' TEAM. If by not gritty, you mean the Cubs don't get on base enough, make contact, or take advantage of poor pitching, then you are exactly right.

    assume they're out of it Ok, here's my somewhat complicated answer. I bid 1 dollar more than the leader has currently if it means that if he's betting enough to shut me out he'll finish lower than me if we both get it wrong. Here's a scenario like what I'm describing: Me-7600, Him-10000. I bid 2401 here (1 dollar more than he has). He has to bid 5201 in order to shut me. So if we both get it right, he wins of course. If we both get it wrong, I win. If I get it right and he gets it wrong, I win. Also, if he bids 0 in this scenario because he knows nothing about the subject, I still have a way to win, while if I bid 0 that isn't available to me. If I only have 6000 to his 10000, I bet it all. Bidding 4001 won't help here because he doesn't have to bet enough for it to matter if we both get it wrong. The only real way to win in this scenario is to get it right and for him to get it wrong, and so the best thing to do is maximize your payday if that happens. If the 3rd player becomes a factor, there are lots of different strategies to use depending on the situation and how close everyone is. The player in 2nd always has a really tough bet in those situations (as opposed to 3rd place, where you bet it all just about every time, and 1st place, where you bet just enough to shut the others out just about every time). You must be a very good NL hold 'em player. :)

    Heath Bell has really good stuff. I have no idea about his contract status, but he's the most talented middle reliever they have, with a much bigger upside than Linebrink. After watching Linebrink pitch for the Brewers last year, I agree with his inclusion on this list. When you have a sinker like Bell's, it doesn't matter what park you play in.

    I'm surprised you put Gibson at 1. yeah i'm surprised he completely ignored the rules as well. Oh well, if he revises his list I'll use it; if not then I'll just go with the others that I've got. Meph don't play by NOBODY'S rules!

    In hindsight, that has to be one of the most profitable walk years in the history of professional sports.

    It definitely distracts from school. If I had a real job instead of a job that lets me do hw 80% of the time, it would distract from that, too. It also took up the majority of my downtime this summer (wasn't a member because Tim and 1908 didn't check their emails for like two months at one point :roll:

    No, and no. His problem was throwing across his body, which put too much torque on his shoulder. Obviously, with the way he dramatically falls off the mound after every pitch, he hasn't changed anything. IIRC, he actually verbally refused to change his mechanics the offseason before his last long stint on the DL (2005?). I really don't see him getting another shot at it for that reason. I say leave him where the mechanics are really not an issue.

    Btw, did anybody catch what McCarver said last night? After a towering shot to straight away center, I think by Spilborghs, McCarver said something along the lines of "The ball gets out of here in most other ballparks." Really, Tim? A 315 ft shot in Coors soap-dropping Field?! This might be FJM-worthy. :lol:

    Really, really good. There's no reason to think he'll slug anything like this in his career. Not to say he won't still be good; kid's got a great eye and is really patient.

    As the Dodgers are now, with a healthy Schmidt (I know, I know) and a new manager with an outlook to the future, they are one of the teams to beat in the NL for the next five years. The question is, when are they gonna start giving Kemp and Loney real PT?

    But we're giving them Patterson (who cant play 2b) and Veal (who can't throw a strike)!!!!! They HAVE to give us their best player!!!!! And saying, "Replace Ohman with Hill" is like saying, "The deal would be fine as long as you throw in Aramis."

    Josh Beckett, for my money. And little of it has to do with wearing us out in '03. He's just a self-important jerk. Kinda reminds me of a young Curt Shilling :lol: That said, what is your problem with old, grizzled Curt Shilling? Aside from his bloody-sock lore and endearment to Boston fans everywhere, I don't really mind him.
