    I would think Brewers fans are saying the same thing about Dempster. They're too busy mozzerella sticking their way to an early grave. Strangely enough, outside of Milwaukee and Green Bay, I have found the people of the state of Wisconsin to be in exceptionally good shape in spite of all the beer drinking and cheese eating. They're just outside doing stuff a lot. This still surprises me even after going to college in Wisconsin for 4 years. I agree for the most part, but off the beaten path it's a very different story

    I don't think so, unless you are a fantasy owner. Aside from one season, he never stole bases with great efficiency, and his OBP isn't really high enough to make it an issue anyway. He is still fast enough to leg out a lot of doubles, and his XBH are his main asset. If his bat speed goes, that's an issue. I'm much more concerned with what it does to his defense. Great range in left was a major part of his value. He never ever ever had great range in left. Despite his speed, he gets terrible reads on balls out there But great speed can help recover from bad jumps (not negate it, but it helps). Less speed and bad jumps = worse defense. True enough, I was just disputing the notion that he ever had "great range" As a side note, will anyone be surprised if he keeps his idiotic little hop out there?

    Both. His right arm will fall off on the first pitch of the game wherein he will switch to the left side of the mound and dominate us for 7 no-hit innings.

    Thankfully for him the Nationals intentionally walked him in the 8th inning last night. If not for that at-bat, Soto would be 1 strikeout away from matching the major league record for most consecutive strikeouts. Is that record for consecutive ABs or consecutive PAs? It would of course be PAs because a walk wouldn't affect ABs, silly. But yeah, I think I see what you mean; I think the record would be closer to 9 in a row than 6. It is 9 in a row. That's why the intentional walk threw it off. Soto struck out in his first 3 at-bats on Friday, then got intentionally walked, then struck out all 5 times on Saturday. And I'm not sure if it AB's or PA's. My guess it would have to be PA's, but I cannot be sure about that. This record only counts position players only btw. For a BB to throw it off, wouldn't it have to be PAs?

    Please only have them on WGN so I can watch them and so I don't ever have to watch the Brewers feed when they play them

    Thanks. Math is not my thing and neither is not being lazy. There has been an epidemic of quotes of: AVG/OBP/OPS and it's driving me slightly crazy. Oh, and welcome to the board.

    well just look at his stats in these situations close and late: 5/10 3HR 8RBI 2BB .500/.583/1.500 tie game: 7/16 2HR 9RBI 1BB .438/.444/.875 granted, its a small sample size for both, but its not going to be that big of a sample size for anybody because its less than a month into the season. Is he really slugging 1.500 in those situations or are you quoting OPS there like a silly person

    Sucks to say, but that's probably the best catch I've seen too. agreed. i was at a bar and one of the stupid "best damn ___" things was on, and it was best damn baseball plays. immediately i thought "the edmonds play had better be one of the top three of all time or this is a sham," and it was either #1 or #2. As far as catches go, I agree (though HM to GMJ in 2006). For best baseball plays I've ever seen, I'd have to go with the Wizard of Oz's barehanded play on a bad hop (Wrigley?) as he was diving toward the hole. Most unbelievable play I've ever seen.

    Taking a look at the stats, this could very well happen if he had to face Felipe Lopez two, three times in a row. Other than that, he should be fine.

    Really? I seem to remember the first pitch he ever threw in the big leagues coming in a bases-loaded situation in a tight game in the 6th or 7th. After a lead-off walk, he got out of the inning with no further damage. This kid will be fine.

    Check out the run he makes at 1:15 into the video. He shows some acceleration that's reminiscent of Hester. Should be dangerous in the open field.
