  1. I'm sure it's just because I'm looking for signs of life, but he seems to have terrible luck on hard hit balls. Like in any 5 at bats he'll strike out once, hit two soft groundouts, get an infield single, and hit a rocket right at someone.
  2. I suppose that would depend on how fast it's read. There's no words during that time. Reading through the lyrics doesn't seem to be anything too offensive. Think that one went (Heming)way over your head.
  3. If Contreras gets on here I can see him letting Montgomery bunt and finish it off himself. As shaky as he looked that inning, I'd rather not screw up the rotation by using Lackey. I think they've been stretching Montgomery out a little bit, he should be fine for another inning.
  4. I love Willson so much. Please turn into a cocky, opponent aggravating Buster Posey and stay forever.
  5. We are up 12 games and while I get it's the cardinals I don't really have many emotions watching this. It's like glorified spring training. I don't understand getting sooo angry It's not about tonight, it's about getting Heyward fixed so he's usable in the playoffs. As things stand right now, I don't know that I'd even let him play. As good as his defense is, it doesn't overcome a .600OPS out of a corner outfield spot. He's at .627 for the year and he's on pace for 2 WAR, so it is overcoming it to a certain extent (obviously not what we expected). I'd love to get him 'fixed' too, but I don't get why telling him to not swing a bat for a week helps that. If a young guy is struggling to adjust, they send him back to the minors to get regular at bats. The rest of our regular season games have about as much importance as minor league games. Let him keep struggling through it. He's been lost for 4 months now and we're 30 over.
  6. I think Chapman talked his way out of a 2nd inning, so Contreras is coming on to move Montgomery as low as possible in the order. Yeah I thought about that but we're talking about 1 spot in the order Given that it's still about 92 degrees with a ton of humidity, maybe it's just Maddon getting Ross out of the game? Like you and the announcers said, going to Montgomery is the move you make when you're up 12 games
  7. We've had that same 'donut' in there all year and it's gone decent enough...
  8. I don't want anything to do with their women.
  9. Strop, chapman at the first sign of trouble/the ninth. Time to lay waste to the cardinals
  10. Probably not because of his defense. Maybe against Bumgarner or Kershaw even then I'd say still play him e Short of schwarbs coming back, which isn't happening, the only scenario I'd really agree with it would be Lester against a lefty pitcher, where Ross would be starting, you'd want contreras in left, and then you'd want Baez in the lineup at third. Otherwise I don't really see it.
  11. Nevermind, getaway day for the ump in general
  12. To get even further off subject, our boy Kosuke is putting up a solid .328/.402/.472 in Japan this year at age 39. And I totally forgot he ended his MLB career on the South Side.
  13. Mike Fontenot was a first round draft pick???
  14. As memorable as I expect this team to be, it's nice to know we've got Brian Matusz and Joe Nathan (along with Joel Peralta who I've already completely forgotten about) on the 'wait, they actually played for the Cubs that year???' team.
  15. Especially on a Friday night when I watched the games while pre-gaming and by the time it was over I had a solid buzz and it was time to go out. Now I give it a 50% chance I'm awake when the game ends. And to think I used to make fun of old people for not being able to stay up until midnight 4am start over here - excuse me but I'll pass. Just go to bed now and you should be able to wake up to catch the end of it....you'll probably miss most of the dongshow though. I'm fine with this one given that it's a Friday. August 22 and 23 (Monday/Tuesday) in San Diego is going to be a little rough.
  16. http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx I know it's just rounding, but that's the first time I've seen the Cubs at 100% for making the playoffs, which is fun. If the Cubs go 28-27 the rest of the way, the Cardinals would have to go 37-17 to catch us. If we play to projection (99 wins currently), Cardinals have to go 42-12 to catch us. None of this is really groundbreaking, but every now and then it's good to sit back and smile.
  17. It's called "replying"... Is this a good 'reply'?
  18. I guess we should all just be content with 2 out of 3 each time, they said with doom boners.
  19. Wait Grimm is in? I've lost all track of our 25 man roster.
  20. It's fine, we've got Miggy/Javy/Ross coming up in the ninth, things are fine, totally fine.
