  1. Chatwood has had two absolutely terrible calls go his way already. I'm assuming we didn't call up a 26th guy? We're in trouble if Chatwood does his normal thing and then we have rain delay issues for Monty tonight. There's a third terrible call to get the K.
  2. Fun fact: David Ross career OPS: .739 Yadier Molina career OPS: .738
  3. Even if it's true, I don't really know that I'd agree with it being 'concerning'. Over 162 games, even if they (continue) play(ing) super hot/cold...it should balance out enough for our true talent level to win us the division. Once October starts, isn't it usually a matter of what team gets hot? There is, granted, a ton of time between now and October, but the playoffs are ideally 3-plus weeks long and it would not bode well for us to win if the wacky up-and-down play were going on then. 14-6 in the last 3 weeks. I know outside of one inning it was a pretty unenjoyable series, but we were pretty 'hot' for the 19 games before that.
  4. I’m convinced it’s worse this year. Again, I can't remember who it was but I remember reading something a few weeks ago that it is worse, in fact it was approaching a historically high variance between their hot and cold streaks. I tend not to get too worried about how things look in June, and I'm really not all that worried that much overall, but that particular thing does concern me a bit. 5. I'd assume most of us aren't, because it's an off day. But excited to see you the next time they're losing! That’s the joke. Also I probably post in here way more when they are winning so try again. My bad....got caught up with everyone else. Sorry about that. Also...hopefully congrats on the new son, either already or in the next few days.
  6. Third in WAR for catchers this year Contreras? The guy with a higher wRC than last year? That Contreras?
  7. I'd assume most of us aren't, because it's an off day. But excited to see you the next time they're losing!
  8. The guy with the 2.71 ERA, the guy with the 0.55 ERA, or the guy with the 1.22 ERA? Which of those guys today would be left off the playoff roster? Who has a 2.71 era? Chacin's in 3.32, started the day 3.58. Though his K/BB is 6.8/3.6. He is not good. Accidentally looked up Guerra's numbers, my bad. He's fine. 1.1 WAR on the year, before tonight, which would lead the Cubs pitching staff.
  9. We are really breaking this down. I’ll try again. The Cubs go though pretty decent stretches where they are being shutdown by (fill in the blank) average starting pitchers. The Cubs have too many good players and I expect no stretches like that because they are awesome. Then you don't really understand how baseball works, and you're going to generally not enjoy watching it.
  10. Yeah my bad, I confused him for Guerra, who is marginally better. I'm with Derwood. I'm sure everyone we've faced is saying that same thing about Randy Rosario or any of the other dorks we've called up from AAA in the last few weeks. It happens.
  11. There's a decent chance we end this game with two pitchers in the lineup. I wonder how often that's happened.
  12. And, again, this ain’t a playoff series where you are facing some of the best starters in the game. This is like against the guys who are left off the playoff roster. The guy with the 2.71 ERA, the guy with the 0.55 ERA, or the guy with the 1.22 ERA? Which of those guys today would be left off the playoff roster?
  13. Here comes strike three in the other batters box
  14. I'm fairly sure our bench is empty. Just wait for the Lester PH in the 9th. Pretty sure Rizzo wanted to get tossed there...surprised Maddon didn't stay out there until he did.
  15. One of Maddon's best qualities is managing players for a seven month season, but with this obviously being a Contreras day off after the night game/having to deal with Chatwood and him giving KB this 'mini break', think we're working with a pretty short bench today. Given our odds to make the postseason, I get it, but I'm pretty sure Lester is our third PH off the bench today.
  16. thats dumb though? what does the run differential have to do with anything I mean, that's kinda exactly my irrational thought process right there. "This dumb useless stat clearly just padded by insane blowout wins can go and get horsefeathers; this offense obviously sucks." Yeah, you start questioning all the things that you believe now because of advanced stats. Like, I rationally know clutch doesn't exist, and players don't 'try harder' when it matters, or whatever. But you go down this road that eventually leads to all the morons on twitter being like 'oh who gives about that sweep? It's just the Reds/White Sox/Marlins/Pirates/Padres/Mets/half of baseball'
  17. Throwing a lot of those sliders against LH hitters isn't going to go well once they've seen six or seven of them. And he starts getting tired and leaving them up. Unfortunately, this is the World Series for the VBs, so you know we're going to see 2 innings of Hader pretty soon.
  18. Chatwood would be in AAA if darvish was healthy, and maybe even if butler was healthy. He’s screwed up just about every way you can be right now. On a separate note, how about more than one hit against a similarly garbage pitcher. We’re allowed to be good at offense early in the game.
  19. Brian "Super Regression Candidate" Duensing doesn't really strike me as the best choice for what could be the biggest AB of the game.
  20. I'm a little disappointed Baez didn't pump fake there...it was pretty clear he was going to try and take third.
  21. Contreras just refuses to catch this guy, right?
  22. Baez, Schwarber, and Happ greeting Eflin tonight before the game
