  1. No. He's like our 12th best hitter against righties. And apparently he hasn't been very 'comfortable' there all month. WHO GIVES A horsefeathers DONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS
  2. You can cheer for a player and be happy about the positive results they produce without having it change your opinion of the player and how good they are. Albert Almora sucks against righties. His basic numbers have almost always, April-June 2018 aside, sucked against righties, and his peripherals have always sucked against them. If he plays and performs well, awesome. But we shouldn't ever plan for it. Zobrist raking against righties doesn't help. Move Heyward to center.
  3. 864 OPS against lefties in July in how many PA's? And why use arbitrary data sets (calendar months)? Listen, I'm not arguing that Almora is great or even very good, but I'm tired of the "his good stats don't count because BABIP" refrain. I absolutely think he's going to end up with pedestrian numbers by season's end, but I don't discredit what he's done to this point But literally no one is doing that. None of us like, feel bad for the success he had early in the season. It was a fun added bonus compared to expectations and (most likely) skill level, because baseball has a lot of randomness and these things happen. He'll still get credit for his first half at the end of the year. But pretty much everything says he won't be that good going forward, and we've already seen it this month, and as such there is no reason to continue batting him 2nd against righties, and when everyone is healthy he really shouldn't be playing against them at all.
  4. He has a 506 OPS against righties in July. He's been bad in general in July 864 OPS against lefties in July
  5. Jesus christ, this again. Saying that the numbers predict a drop-off and that he has outproduced his peripherals can both be true He has a 506 OPS against righties in July.
  6. To begin with, the .381 BABIP on 50% GBs and ~5% BB rate and ~20% K rate. All of which is true, and yet, he has still produced Jesus christ, this again.
  7. He hit an oppo Dong the other night Yeah, but I meant the majority of his at-bats. Thus, the "pretty much" part. 262/351/385 in July. Certainly not June (327/364/510), but still an improvement over the lat couple years.
  8. Let's continue punting games with our pitching choices and then throw out our most valuable player with a bum knee to risk a serious injury.
  9. And this is one of the reasons you got someone like Chavez. Someone who can effectively bridge the gap from a high leverage situation early in the game to the late inning guys. This isn't hard.
  10. Justin Wilson hasn't pitched since Saturday, if you really insisted on a lefty.
  11. I was still thinking that after the second bobble. Gary Sanchez part 2.
  12. How do you guys think Almora will screw up this inning.
  13. This has been an incredibly poorly managed series.
  14. The Cubs seem to rise to the occasion when he pitches. They've won his last 4 starts and are 10-8 overall when he pitches. They will win in spite of him. Let Chatwood pitch to the first batter every game of the playoffs. World Series guaranteed.
  15. Well that was about as unsatisfying as it can be for a Cubs win, Brewers/Cardinals loss day.
  16. Interesting bench management here Joe.
  17. Given the way Javy swings the bat, agreed, seemed pretty reckless. Can't believe I'm making multiple pleas for David horsefeathering Bote, but here we are.
  18. And I'll fully admit to being a Statcast/Baseball Savant idiot, but they've got Pollock's home run with a 19% hit probability. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?game_pk=530931&type=exit_velocity&chart_view=pitch&chart_type=sbp&inning=&count=&batter_hand=&pitcher_hand=&filter=
  19. Yeah, I get that reasoning. Given we have the Chatwood/Monty special the next two days, I guess I don't mind trying to squeeze one more inning out of him the way he was throwing. I’m sure that was part of it, but up 1-0 do what it takes to win today. Figure out tomorrow/Friday when they happen. Yeah, but with Morrow out and Cishek unavailable...you get an inning out of Carl and Strop. They've only got one lefty in the lineup...maybe their top PH is a lefty and you can use Wilson there, but a tired Lester pitching well is pretty close to Justin Wilson for me.
  20. He was good today, but at 100+ pitches. 3 righties coming up with a fully rest pen (outside of Cishek), he shouldn’t have started that inning. That ball was a HR most days. Yeah, I get that reasoning. Given we have the Chatwood/Monty special the next two days, I guess I don't mind trying to squeeze one more inning out of him the way he was throwing.
  21. Didn't realize he was already at around 100 pitches. Guess more confused on why that one AB made Joe change his mind.
  22. Just following along on gameday/twitter, but seems like an awful quick hook for a wind aided HR. Guessing Jon wasn't too thrilled.
  23. I'm torn. I like Happ a lot, but I'm worried about cost and I'm a little worried about how similar he is to Quintana and Lester. Yeah, Happ seems to be that undesirable middle ground between "rotation depth/literally not Tyler Chatwood" that we should be able to acquire for next to nothing and "this guy slots into our playoff rotation". I guess if they know Darvish is out for the year, Happ can be the fourth guy. But if everyone is healthy, Happ would be my fifth option going into October.
