  1. Which is good, because compared to the Cubs like 25 teams are terrible.
  2. God when this line up is on it is so damn demoralizing to opposing pitchers. They've spit on so many good pitches with two strikes.
  3. I think for one of the September games against the White Sox when we already have the division locked up, we should have a theme game thread where we all embrace the 1997 version of ourselves and go full meatball the entire time. Like just get super angry at Fulmer there and demand retaliation, have the filter autocorrect Sox to Sox, etc. Edit: I guess the filter works backwards on that one right now. So just flip it for one day.
  4. sunday looks fine. tomorrow not so much. Yeah it'll be clear for game time, there's just about 36 hours of straight rain leading up to it.
  5. [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. All offense lineup, which makes sense with Chatwood on the mound. Zobrist, Bryant, Rizzo, Javy, Schwarber, Willson, Addy, Happ Weather the rest of the weekend looks real questionable, so take care of this one today.
  7. I'll be sitting in the bleachers with three Sox fans on Saturday (assuming the game gets played, weather looks miserable). In this current environment, I shouldn't even have to endure minutes of abuse as a Cubs fan from a Sox fan. Sweep them, blow them out, piss on their graves. (actually two of three is probably fine, it's baseball, things happen)
  8. he was probably being shielded a lot more in those stretches though. dude's got a 158 wRC+ and .405 wOBA through 132 PA right now. basically playing everyday. oh and his strikeout rate is 19.7% LOL. I think parts of it are definitely real (he’s definitely not as free swinging anymore like the K rate shows) but he still isn’t walking at all so he’s going to have to keep getting a lucky with the batted balls to stay all-star level productive I’d guess His BABIP is 50 points lower than last year though. He's just playing at a 60 HR pace. That won't last, but even if they don't go out, that kind of batted ball usually ends up doing something positive.
  9. He put up an .899 in 06/2016 and a .846 in 07/2016, bookended by .551 and .594. That's about as hot as he's been, as I can tell, and I forgot how good he was last year...851 OPS in the second half. It's not the 'ideal' type of a high OPS, but I'll more than take it. he was probably being shielded a lot more in those stretches though. dude's got a 158 wRC+ and .405 wOBA through 132 PA right now. basically playing everyday. oh and his strikeout rate is 19.7% LOL. And he's oddly keeping up the reverse splits too. .449 wOBA against righties, .287 against lefties (38 PAs)
  10. I'm going with the Marlins being an AAA team and the Cubs not being an AAA team for $500. Someone doesn't watch Jeopardy.
  11. FWIW, i don't remember him having a stretch of his career this good for over a month, fwiw. and there are tangible and noticeable differences in what he's doing at the plate. will be interesting to see how the league adjusts back. 12. jury is still out Is jury one of their young pitchers?
  13. In what may be the least generous offer of all time, if anyone wants free bleacher seats, send me a message.
  14. I feel like the last thing a tight groin would need would be Javy sitting on the bench for 3 hours and then coming to the plate and swinging as hard as he can three times in a row.
  15. I think/hope that the upcoming Harper/Machado free agency has been talked about for so long that Theo has a very good idea of how much it'll take to get either, their interest in going to that level, and their ability to sign one of them if they are willing to go that far (no team is signing both of them). If he's ran those numbers and decided Machado is the better target for the offseason (and that we'd have a good shot of retaining/signing him), then by all means go for it now, as I think a package led by Addy or Baez would be the best they're going to get, and one of them would have to go anyways. If not, as others have said, it doesn't move the needle enough for a rental. This is a tangent, but I'm still not sold on Baez>Russell going forward. I think there's some dissonance between Javy Baez, human highlight reel, and Javy Baez, effective baseball player, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
  16. Logistically it'd have to be Russell or Baez, barring injury. Unless the price somehow drops to prospects, it doesn't make much sense otherwise. Any sort of Schwarber/Happ/Almora package comes with a corresponding drop off in the outfield, and we're probably only talking about adding a win or two going from Baez/Russell to Machado by the time the trade gets done.
  17. I used Javy as the base model for my RTTS guy, got annoyed with the way it all worked, and then decided to just start a franchise and player lock with Javy every game for that same reason.
  18. Mainly due to the Seager injury, Cubs now projected to have the best record in the NL by 6 games (95 wins), only behind Houston (100), Boston (98.5), and NYY (97). Dodger's projection went down 4 wins. The AL is going to be so boring this year...4 teams with playoff odds of over 95% already. Hopefully the NL Central ends up just as boring, but the East and the West could be pretty interesting.
  19. Happ at second, Baez at third, Schwarber/Almora/Heyward across the outfield? Assuming Bryant is still out.
  20. Cubs go on the road to a surefire division winner, split the series and score 11 runs in two games in nasty weather conditions. Normal Cubs fan: Bench the shortstop, make the offense better.
