  1. What is the offensive equivalent of CJs struggles at the end of last year and beginning of this year and how has Almora not gotten to that point yet.
  2. Since you referenced his FG defensive numbers from 2018, which I agree probably isn't a sustainable skill...going just by his 'Offense' number, which was 10.3, puts him at 64th in baseball last year. Nothing to build a team around, but that kind of talent has a starting spot on every team in baseball.
  3. Too lazy to link the lineup and don't remember the order, but Zobrist day off, Zagunis in right, Almora in center (Heyward off). Skaggs is much better against lefties than righties, but it seems like almost all of that difference is that his walk rate spikes against righties, so that doesn't do Almora any good.
  4. "I doubt" to "maybe" in two sentences....this was definitely part of the plan. I mean it's also on GMs and Presidents of Baseball Ops making the call and refusing to spend on older players. It's not all on the owners. Teams that are tanking aren't going to spend serious money during FA. Teams are operating smarter and have better projections/models. I wouldn't say that was all part of the plan. It's all part of the same plan. Improved projections/models have shown that by and large players are most productive during their early to mid 20s, which is also when they are drastically underpaid for what they are providing. Players didn't care about that because good players knew a payday was coming down the road, either because of some unspoken agreement or because of bad models. Now that that future payday is far from guaranteed, players are feeling increased pressure to lock in security whenever they can. The GMs and presidents report to the owners, and are dealing with artificial (for lack of a better word) budget constraints.
  5. I doubt they did this on purpose, but showing no interest in FA and making it a hellscape for older players is looking real smart right now. Maybe the owners did this on purpose... "I doubt" to "maybe" in two sentences....this was definitely part of the plan.
  6. April 2018: 247/344/390, 102 wRC (99 wRC for the year) April 2017: 279/340/407, 98 wRC (88 wRC for the year) April 2016: 224/333/271, 71 wRC (72 wRC for the year)
  7. The only thing better than having one first baseman locked up to a big contract in their 30s is having two.
  8. If you're Jon Lester it is. Fixed
  9. Are we really complaining about a 2 game pythageroeum vs actual record difference through 10 games? This team stinks and deserves to be 1-9. Yeah that .879 team OPS is terrible. We definitely shouldn’t have won two of those three games we won by (checks notes) 8, 6, and 10 runs.
  10. Cubs win, Cubs hit positive run differential, bullpen pitches 7 shut out innings.
  11. Addendum to my previous posts. Every time Randy Rosario gets brought into the game, there should be boos. Not so much for Randy as a person...no idea what kind of guy he's like. But the decision to have Randy Rosario pitch should be consistently and roundly booed.
  12. Cubs now have a positive run differential on the year, 72-71. For comparison, the Tigers are in first place at 7-3 and their differential is also at 1....27-26.
  13. Outisde of the Lester injury, which thankfully looks minor, today is basically Pretzel Day, and the rest of the season is the other 364 days of working at Dunder Mifflin for Stanley. (Yeah, I couldn't find a relevant gif)
  14. There isn't going to be a game the next two days (day off and beautiful Chicago weather), so let's just win this one. There was discussion of moving Wednesday's game to Tuesday given the weather forecasts....I wonder if the Cubs back away from that now that we need 7 innings of relief from our pen.
  15. That was incredibly scary. From Rizzo's bat to Taillon's head to one hopping the center fielder. Somehow he's staying in, so maybe got deflected.
  16. I know it’s going against the KB sucks and is actually bad now thing people are jumping on, but I think he’s gonna be fine. Just having a rough ~4 games here, it happens. He was on Tallion there. I'm fine with the concern that he never turns back into an MVP contender, and becomes more of a Matt Carpenter type player than what we were expecting. I don't agree, but I get it. Bryant putting up a .687 OPS in the first week, so all of a sudden he sucks is nonsense. Rizzo put up a .448 in the entire month of April last year.
  17. There's Cervelli having to stop himself from throwing the ball around the horn to appeal to third on what was an obvious checked swing. Looking forward to him holding his glove for 4 seconds to buy a call and then having a key RBI with a 12 hopper up the middle.
  18. Those aren't mutually exclusive scenarios That's true. That said, I've already heard a lot of cheering. Hope you aren't too disappointed and that things can turn around by the end of the game. It's just...who are you going to boo in this lineup right now? Everyone is either killing the ball, or is already a Cubs legend. Boo Maddon when he comes out if you think he's doing a bad job (won't happen), boo when Almora grounds out to short if he pinch hits, boo Russell just for fun. But that's about it.
  19. If we had broken through in 1998, 2003, or 2006-2007 (anything before that I was too young)...option 2 all day. But given the circumstances, has to be option 1.
  20. I hope the Ricketts get booed, but I doubt they are dumb enough to play any part in this. Which players do you think deserve to be booed?
