  1. Cubs lose two games in a row, playoff expectancy over 85%. NSBB: should Ross get fired if/when they miss the playoffs
  2. The frustrating thing is that games like today are a good reminder that we are good, but definitely flawed, and Ross trying to sequence a bunch of average pitchers isn’t going to work and isn’t going to matter when the offense gets shut down by a stud. The good thing to remember is that all the other teams in this race are almost definitely way more flawed than we are, and we’ve played ourselves into a spot where there’s theoretically four spots available for us to grab. I like our chances a lot better with that math.
  3. Yeah I never really liked hoerner up there though I do think he’s a really smart hitter. Now that tauchman turned back into a (still kinda serviceable) pumpkin, I think you drop them and move everyone else up a couple slots.
  4. Yeah horsefeathers that dude with a 121 wRC in the second half and a 166 wRC in high leverage spots this year
  5. We didn’t score a run in 9 innings and got through a taillon start without burning a single pen pitcher for tomorrow, I wouldn’t think. And only giving up one run. It’s fine.
  6. I meant his overall usage, but sure. There’s been games that have gotten away from taillon quickly, and generally the numbers are going to support a bullpen pitcher over a starter going through the order for a third time. Can we talk about how mastrobuoni hasn’t hit in 3 weeks and is apparently just there for vibes. Or is it not even worth it.
  7. I don’t think he has much of a choice, but yeah, nothing about cuas has justified how quickly he’s gotten into the circle of trust
  8. It’s a mediocre bullpen where the best pitcher is clearly dealing with a dead arm backing up a terrible starting pitcher. We’ve given up 1 run in 8 innings. Yes, garbage. (they should have traded for like 5 pen guys)
  9. Man, horsefeathers David Ross for having the offense score zero runs today
  10. because, I believe, adbert could backdate his 10 day IL appearance to a week ago so it’d be like a three day trip. If he can’t pitch, get someone who can
  11. Cuas makes assad’s overperformance of his peripherals seem tame.
  12. What are we even doing sending Thompson down if adbert still isn’t ready.
  13. I think this is the right call. Our top pen guys are rested, he hasn’t earned the trust, and let him take some confidence going into his next start. of course if we get 6 inches off the corner it won’t really matter who’s pitching
  14. Just really impressive work from taillon. Still doesn’t have the benefit of the doubt so get some guys going. Go scratch out a run.
  15. Can’t believe we’re going to get swept in this series.
  16. In aggregate, their pen has been pretty bad, so still got a decent chance. Frustrating game offensively but they probably should have had a few more too. We built up enough of a cushion to not freak out about this, just need to avoid a bad streak.
  17. At the risk of being overly positive, we just debuted two of our top fifteen-ish prospects in a September series sweep of what was a wild card contender to put our playoff expectancy comfortably in the 90+% range. Hard to argue too much with the big picture here.
  18. I don't know if you necessarily need to give them a ton of credit, but Jed and Co have basically taken care of all the problem spots they created on the offensive side of the roster. Hosmer, Mancini, Barnhart, etc. If you gave Canario a weeks worth of ABs for the Cubs and he went 231/231/577 (808 OPS), I think people would be pretty pumped about the power, and that's what Wisdom has done since August 1st as the 'weak spot' on the active/actually playing roster (not counting Mastrobuoni, who hasn't gotten an AB since 8/22). Everyone else is in a tough position to squeeze him in (Amaya/Gomes, Hoerner), had some time off and are playing well (Cody, Seiya, Madrigal to an extent), or are dudes with established track records used to playing every day (Happ, Dansby).
  19. Cubs have a wRC of 128 since Canario was called up. I'm personally more mad at the 'you can't call up two pitchers' rule. It sucks he's lost, like, 25 AAA PAs or whatever. He's also gotten to spend the week traveling with the team, the coaches, getting the MLB paycheck, seeing Wrigley in September, etc. If this was some 30 year old career minor leaguer on a AAA heater and we were depriving him of his shot to get a major league AB, sure, I'd feel bad. And yes, it's a little weird he hasn't gotten a throwaway AB in a blow out. But he's going to play in the majors. And I don't think there's a super convincing argument he's better than the guys who are playing now.
  20. Not going to count on anything from Colorado. But would be nice for the Phillies to hit a rough patch here. Make it purely a seeding question, vs a making it in general question, and you can decide how much you want to step on the gas.
  21. I have no idea where we are going to get 40 more games worth of pitching. But this offense man.
