  1. I was on a road trip with some cardinal friends awhile ago and we drove past the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, so I made some wise crack about it which led to a debate about Cubs players vs Cardinal players all time. So since my baseball history knowledge is lacking, I was wondering if someone had a breakdown of teams all time greats at each position so one could do a comparison of Cubs vs Cardinals.
  2. Nice post, but I have to ask. Who are you, and what did you do with UMFan83?
  3. Limiting Z and Dempster to once every six days is why you don't use a 6 man, but if Harden starts to have a fragile arm it wouldn't be a bad strategy, imo. Couldn't you have Z and Dempster pitch on their normal days and rotate the other 4 guys throught the 3 other spots. Personally, if they did go to a six man rotation, I would want Dempster receiving the maximum rest. Since he's coming from the bullpen, he's going to at least go through a dead arm period, so I'd like to try to keep him as rested as possible.
  4. What's FC? What makes it especially nasty, is that they all start on pretty much the same path from both the side and the top, making it harder for the batter to recognize what is coming. It's a cut fastball. The data that they pulled on CubsFX.com wasn't complete, as I think there were 15 or so pitches missing, but he threw it just over 20 times. He actually fell behind left handed batters quite frequently, but they still didn't have much success against Z. I'm an idiot. I thought the CU stood for cutter, so I couldn't figure out FC. I was even thinking it must be change up since that is the only pitch missing.

  6. sorry I don't mean to obsess about the Cardinals, but I'm stuck watching the Cards game, while listening to the Cubs game. Anyway they keep making excuses for why the Cardinals won't make a deal for a pitcher, and Harbosky just said they'll be getting Carpenter and Wainwright back, which is better than the trades the Cubs and Brewers made. Stupid DPs.
  7. What happened? From the sound of gatewayredbirds, he sucked pretty much off the bat and looked terrible. yea, he struck out Rollings looking then walked the next two batters on 8 straight, that weren't even close to the zone. The announcers are speculating he hurt himself on a pick off move, since it was an awkward motion.
  8. Mulder left the game injured after just 3 batters
  9. they are wearing special july 4th hats. There is a link on page 4 or 5. Edit: sorry page 2
  10. I know Lou won't do it, but what about batting Theriot 9th? I know that generally batting the pitcher 8th increases your run expectancy, but with Derosa and Soto in the 6 and 7 spot with fairly high OBPs I don't know if it would be a good idea.
  11. they'll need to make a decision on which sean stays in the rotation on friday when Z returns. think they'll stick with gallagher over marshall? i wonder if they'll try sending marshall to the pen again with eyre on the dl. hope not, but i guess it's a possibility. even though gallagher has done an awesome job I think it might be smart to send gallagher down to maybe help limit his innings for September.
  12. Seriously, ban this guy. Come on. Amazing he is still here. I think it might be time to PM the mods. Are you serious? I'm being realistic. You guys went over there last week with the sweep pictures. Why are you hanging at WSI? Oh, Sox fan, that's it. Ban this guy already. No one here went there, to my knowledge. And you're making it obvious you're a WSI troll. Even with you on my foes list I can't ignore you because you're pissing everyone off so much that they have to respond you. I believe Vance or Cubsin03 went over there and posted the sweep pic.
  13. great job by marshall sounds like the crowd is pro cub
  14. me too, I got in a "argument" with a friend calling him a scrub who is over performing. I hope he continues to prove me right. [knock on wood]
  15. Incidentally, has anybody done anything less to become famous?
  16. IMO, it says if Theriot gets to a ball and catches it, he's going to make a good accurate throw, that gets there in time to get the runner out. His lack of range means he gets to less balls in the holes, so his arm strength (or lack there of) doesn't show up in the numbers. So basically he is the opposite of Bruntlett.
  17. Not sure if this should go here or the general forum, but since Theriot makes the list a couple of times, I thought I'd put it here. Anyway, the Hardball Times linked to this blog, and I thought it would make for some good discussion.
  18. I don't think it was Wrigley. He had an excellent year for Pitt when he was 22-23 (2001). The book got out on him and he was slow to adjust the next year. We picked him up late the next year after he had turned 25. I think he just matured and hit his prime years, and would have been good no matter where he was. As far as his home/away splits go, he was actually considerably better on the road in 2005, a little better in 2006, then changed to better at home in 2007. The phenomenom of his splits being better at home has only held true for a season and a half now. I believe was also playing on a bad ankle during his off year, too.
  19. At last check, ESPN has Lilly at 77 and Danks at 71, but that is atleast a few pitches ago. thanks!
  20. What are the pitch counts? I'm too lazy to go look.

  22. It's based off of Tim Kurkjian's article about who he would select. He didn't select Geo, but at the end of the article he mentions how the Cubs could have a guy at every position and specifically mentions Geovany Soto.
