  1. This year, at this rate, were the Cubs to finish with 73 wins and lose the rest of their games, there are not enough losses to spread around the remainder of the division teams to keep the Cubs in playoff position. At 74 wins, though, there is a way. Ah. Seems like a weird thing to figure out... yea, sorry I was bored at work. Thanks bukie for explaining it for me since I was away.
  2. If my math is correct; I think if we win tonight, we could lose every game for the rest of the season and still make the playoffs in theory. I know it doesn't mean anything, but it's kind of cool to be able to say that with 41 games left.
  3. I was hoping to see Theriot and/or Derosa get a day off. It seems like they are in the lineup everyday.
  4. Sioux City Sarsaparilla is the nectar of the gods.
  5. 118, IIRC edit: looks like soccer beat me, and he's probably correct.
  6. Johnson at 33, Demp at 35 after the Ramirez AB. thanks, hopefully we can give Johnson another couple of long innings and get him out.
  7. yep. He also said he's going to start pushing the starters harder, to try and help save the bullpen. I don't want Demp throwing another 120 pitches today, or Harden tomorrow.
  8. Lou said on the radio pregame show that Marmol will close today if there is a save situation.
  9. Bruce says he won't start Saturday in his blog http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/294
  10. yea I found it through this link in The Hardball Times Live. It's an interview with Josh Kalk who has written a couple of articles for THT using Pitchf/x. It has successfully kept me from doing work this morning, which is always a good thing on a Friday.

  12. they mentioned earlier they were having problems with the HD feed, but they hoped to get it working shortly.
  13. it's not just you what's sad is he is probably the best Cardinal's announcer.
  14. Harden hit 94 against Jackson, and was always above 92, must have heard our worries.
  15. I watched more closely that last inning and he was everywhere between 89 and 93 on his fastball, more 89-90 according to gameday. So yea I'm a little concerned, but maybe he's trying to conserve energy.
  16. Did Theriot really just almost hit that last one out to straight away center?
  17. gameday has Harden around 90 on most of his fastballs.
  18. Shouldn't that be 4.00 for Arizona? [/nitpick]
  19. Ya, the teams are pretty close. The pitching I think is a wash too. Three Finger and Gibson cancel each other out, I think. Dizzy wasn't really around for all that long because of injuries, but at his best he was better than Fergie. However, Jenkins was a workhouse who was very, very good. I think they cancel each other out as well. Thanks. I wish I knew more about the history of baseball, but I never make the time to learn.
  20. Off the top of my head, players who spent the majority of their careers with these teams: Cubs: C: Gabby Hartnett 1B: Mark Grace (could also be Anson/Chance) 2B: Ryno 3B: Santo SS: Banks LF: Williams CF: Hack Wilson RF: Sosa P: Mordecai Brown P: Ferguson Jenkins Cards: C: Ted Simmons 1B: Pujols 2B: Hornsby SS: Ozzie Smith 3B: Ken Boyer LF: Musial CF: Edmonds RF: Enos Slaughter P: Bob Gibson P: Dizzy Dean *obviously the glaring Cardinals omission is Lou Brock, but if we are going purely by position, then Musial trumps Brock in LF. Thanks! So it's pretty even, correct? They probably have the edge with pitching though.
