I'm sort of torn on the franchise tag for Forte. If you were going to sign him long term, wouldn't you just do it now and get one year of high money out of the way? He's going to want the same amount of years still, right?

At least it doesn't sound like something he can't come back from. Loyalty board says Weber asked if they wanted in, it was up to them, Henry chose not to. You still go in at that point, but it's nothing that's going to prevent him from coming back next year when Bruce is gone. and klee has these scout board monkeys all thinking that players are going to split if bruce is fired. it's the other way around Which scares me. Klee is the DIAs mouth piece, they better not be thinking of bringing Weber back. Oh, come on. There's no need to make things up to freak out about. I told you, once PMan started allowing open speculation about a new coach, it was over. These threads wouldn't last an hour in years' past. He's a raging douche, but he's connected and he knew it was over. Wait, I thought you were PMan? Sunki is terrible as well.

Cubs absolutely could. This most likely means that the brain trust didn't think he was worth that kind of money. I consider this the first Theo fail. Now I'm rooting for Cespedes to suck so I can still believe in everything Theo does. Considering this to be a "fail" would be remarkably premature. Yeah, I don't get it. I mean, there were 15 other GM's or so that could have used an OF who decided to pass as well. What's to say Beane didn't see some small value on the baseball side and also a chance to help revitalize a dormant fan base? I mean 36M isn't bad if he doesn't end up being great (it's smaller that Fukudome's and Cespedes will probably outperform him). But at the same time, GM's aren't just gonna cough up 9M per just to add a player for the sake of adding one. I can't really say whether I like the Cubs passing or not, mostly because I'm still so skeptical on Cespedes abilities, but I will say that I still trust the brain trust to make the right decisions for this team at this point in time. And they obviously didn't think Cespedes was right at that price.

I haven't been following this thread all that much because I don't really want the Cubs to land Cespedes, but I did see yesterday that Ozzie G. said he was similar to Raul Mondesi but not as good.
