  1. The trade that gets Daniels fired. It may. That trade looked like a Cubs win at the time, when Ramirez wasn't yet a part of the deal and Olt was seen as potentially being irreparably damaged goods. Right now, it looks like an absolute fleecing. Now with the injuries the Rangers are dealing with, I'm betting Daniels is wishing he had that one back. And getting Hendricks and Villanueva for Dempster is looking better than it did at the time, too. Daniels would do well to stop doing business with Hoyer/Epstein. The fact that neither Dempster nor Garza were retained (not to mention that they didn't perform particularly well) and they didn't get any compensation has just got to be salt in the wound. Yes, he already publicly admitted last week that it was not a smart trade on his part and very shortsighted.
  2. Well then you better clone a hitter worthy of getting slot at 4. Draft someone who won't sign and take the fifth pick next year. That's honestly not a terrible idea if they're not enamored with anybody at that slot this year. It'll cost them a bunch of slot money, but if they like some of the guys that will be eligible next year it could work out. The uncertainty of players draft to draft makes that a huge risk though. Have opinions on the idea sure, but it's not realistic.
  3. Dayton is a lot better and more dangerous than GMason
  4. I'll go this way with lineups: RHP: Valbuena - 2B Castro - SS Rizzo - 1B Olt - 3B Schierholtz - RF Lake - LF Sweeney - CF Castillo - C LHP: Bonifacio - CF Castro - SS Rizzo - 1B Olt - 3B Ruggiano - RF Lake - LF Castillo - C Barney - 2B
  5. I'm in...and my picks will go here.
  6. neely's back, Aramis Fan is back...where's WSR? WSR and Kyle are different people? /SeriousQuestion
  7. It doesn't look like much of an issue to me...think a Marlon Byrd type swing. He is essentially just cocking early and using tremendous bat speed and arm strength to make up for a lack of a "wind-up". I actually like that he has quiet hands and body.
  8. I think he was consensus better than Peppers and pretty decent. Not a stud, but good. Well they need the pass rush so if nothing else he'll be decent there. Does this signing make it more likely they go DB in Round 1? Yeah nevermind, I didn't realize DT was still that weak.

  10. Oh no....please don't make me watch that 2 times a week.
  11. Wasn't Allen just barely better than Peppers last season and not very good in general among DE?
  12. I'm not saying Olt isn't good defensively but I think this is an overstatement for any highly thought of 3rd baseman. To put it another way, The Rangers were more excited about his bat a couple years ago. It would be great if he was a plus defender still but he has to hit. Third base is no longer a position where you have to get an .800 ops. In 2013 the average nl position player had a .318 wOBA. The average for 3b was .311. Below center fielders. And the fact that the rangers were more excited about his bat says more positive about his hitting potential than negative about his fielding. He has been seen as anywhere from above average to gold glove potential at third. (He was a shortstop in college). I can see where you'd think I was overstating the point (I disagree, but I can see it) the OP was concerned about Olt having a position. That's ludicrous. Ok well wake me up when his arm is capable of actually playing 3B.
  13. I know the options suck, but Donnie Murphy should never have to be considered a lock for anything.
  14. Why would you trade him? If he's working you want him. Bryant can go to the outfield and Baez can stay at SS or move to 2B. Yeah, and defensively, that would be ideal too. I guess I just don't understand where Olt is going to play? His defensive/arm/shoulder/whatever issues seem to be a major issue and I don't want a Ryan Zimmerman at 3B. This is... I don't... how what... Seriously? Yes, I do not care to see 21 throwing errors in 140 games. If he really can mash that's different, but call me skeptical on that front as well. From what TT said I guess this shouldn't be a long-term (season lingering) injury, but does it not seem like it's taking him a long time to get it right?

  16. But play where?
  17. At what point is Olt trade bait?
  18. Matthew Scioscia may have the worst minor league stats I've ever seen.
  19. I was in Vegas for that one, what a kick to the nuts...fade away 3 from the corner. I agree that Iowa can make a run possibly, certainly can beat UMass...the problem is going to be winning the first one tonight, Tennessee has really good peripherals they've just had the same problem as Iowa I believe in getting over the hump and beating good teams in close games. Either way my place will be clean at the end of the night. Scrub away baby and do some laundry while you're at it.
  20. Haven't heard from Iowa fans this week - how nervous and psychotic are they right now? I love when Iowa sports play on TV, my girlfriend gets too nervous to watch and starts cleaning the condo.
  21. Mooney: Cubs option Brett Jackson, Zac Rosscup, Christian Villanueva, Josh Vitters and Arodys Vizcaino to Triple-A Iowa
  22. He's had visits with several teams, so there's definitely some interest around the league. Maybe his asking price is too high given the issues he's had. I don't know, I feel kind of bad for a player who gets a serious injury at the exact worst time contract-wise. He never had a chance to come back and prove himself on the field before trying to sell himself around the league. It's got to be tough. The only real interest in Melton is trying to gauge how bad his injury is, and from the length he's been on the market I'd say teams don't think it's very good.
  23. Nope, not yet....
  24. I will have to go with MSU in this one.
  25. Do they speak English in Canada? Wiggins sounds like a freaking moron.
