  1. Oh boy. The two guys that I wanted the most at #16 (besides Peterson, if he were to fall that far). Pretty pathetic, and that's a severe understatement, to only score a 12 and a 13 on the Wonderlic. It doesn't mean too much. Vince scored less than that last year and he had a pretty good year. The Wonderlic is only one of many tools to give an idea about a kid, I don't put much stock in it. It just means they're retarted (yes, intentional) but doesn't say much about how well they can play football.
  2. And for those of you (not me unfortunately) who have ESPN Classic, the second game each day will be televised on that channel at 5 pm ET.
  3. Oden isn't. Not this year. I couldn't believe that Oden was named to the All-America team this year and I really think he got named because of his name alone and how people expected him to perform.
  4. I find it interesting that in the tournament, Ohio State had played better with Oden on the bench than with him in the game (not necessarily all the time but fairly often). I remain convinced that Oden isn't the best player on this team (this year).
  5. Georgetown can't buy a layup early on. Much different from the Carolina game.
  6. GO HOYAS!!! Oden has two fouls already.
  7. Also... I just heard on the radio that Zambrano, supposedly, told ESPN AM 1000 his 2007 record will be 22-7.  7 losses!?! Come on! Zambrano doesn't talk about losses, that "record" is wins and home runs he'll hit this year.
  8. Just to make it simple, we'll take 2 teams, the Red Sox and the Blue Jays. Let's say in simulation #1 the Red Sox win the wild card with 95 wins and the Blue Jays end up with 84. Then in simulation #2, the Blue Jays win the wild card with 94 wins and the Red Sox end up with 85 wins. Well, the average wins for the wild card winner is (95+94)/2 = 94.5 wins. The average # of wins for the Red Sox is (95+85)/2 = 90 and the average # of wins for the Blue Jays is (94+84)/2 = 89. So: Red Sox avg 90 wins Blue Jays avg 89 wins Wild Card winner avg 94.5 wins. Because the wild card winner is always going to have, at worst, the fourth most wins in the league where as each individual team could theoretically have anywhere between the 1st and 14th (or 16th in the NL) wins in the American League.
  9. One error does not lose a playoff series. Tell Billy Buckner that, he'd appreciate it. Boston still had to go and lose Game 7 after Buckner's error.
  10. That's what we do here in Davis with the A's and Giants stories because we're too small of a paper to have actual beat reporters for those teams. We don't have a beat reporter for the Kings either but try to cover most of the games. The same goes for the Sacramento River Cats.
  11. One error does not lose a playoff series. You don't think there's a very good chance we would have been in the WS if he had simply turned that double play? There is no way Gonzalez could have turned a double play there. The ball was hit in the hole and it wasn't hit extremely hard meaning it would have taken an extremely slow runner and even then he might not have turned it. He was only getting one out on that play even if he fields the ball cleanly.
  12. Hell, we still don't have a #5 hitter. Actually we do, but he's leading off. We have a few options for leadoff too. Oh well, I think a team needs the right balance of pitching, defense, and offense to be really good. Defense is going to make a bigger impact than 10%. Case in point Alex Gonzalez and his "defense" could have helped the Cubs get to the WS in 2003. Tell me I'm wrong. you're wrong. So, the guy who hit 27 HRs and slugged .500, while putting up a .960 OPS with runners in scoring position last year, isn't good enough for you? What about the guy who put up an .885 OPS, and .930 with RISP? i don't know who you're referring to...if it's jones, i have no problem with him being on the team. i'd much prefer him in the OF to pie. I'm guessing he was responding to Abe's claim that the Cubs don't have a #5 hitter and accidentally quoted you.

Case in point Alex Gonzalez and his "defense" could have helped the Cubs get to the WS in 2003. Tell me I'm wrong. Gonzalez was on the team mainly for his defense. He hit a few home runs but he surely didn't spend 13 seasons in the league because of his career .302 OBP.
  14. I just threw up in my mouth! Don't put that mental image in my head...EVER! I don't know who would win but the losers would be every single person who watched it.
  15. Big Murt!! Hopefully he can have a big year in 2007.
  16. Jones against a lefty. This won't end well.
  17. I tune in to MLBTV and the first voice I hear turns out to be Carrie Muskat and boy did she sound really interested in what she was talking about.
  18. Either 162-0 or (-1)-163. I can't decide which.
  19. I hate the Raiders. Can Al Davis just die already? Can we make this happen, please?
  20. I love the news. Just make it official.
  21. The craps tables are calling. I can only imagine Z gambling. I imagine Friday morning's headline might read something like this: ZAMBRANO STRANGLES BLACKJACK DEALER: No arrests made, what happens in Vegas, stays. BREAKING NEWS!! Carlos Zambrano went crazy in Las Vegas today after he had a bit of a losing streak at the blackjack table. Reportedly, Zambrano lost four hands in a row when he had either a 19 or a 20 and began to curse and scream. It was then that Zambrano really lost control. Fortunately the only casualty was the blackjack table which Zambrano picked up and snapped in half over his leg. Zambrano reportedly felt "relieved" after smashing the table and that his leg felt great.
  22. I'm definitely liking this lineup a lot.
  23. hahaha me too. Funny, I have me playing SS. What a coincidence, I have you playing SS also.
