  1. Great first inning for Z. Now let's have 8 more of those.
  2. Look at that hustle and grit by Erstad to make that catch.
  3. That won't happen. The Cubs will manage to win all three series and get within 5 or 6 of the Brewers just to drag us all back in. Then they'll lose 5 of 7 to Pittsburgh and Washington going into the All-Star break.
  4. Again, I realize I'm a bit behind on these games but... I'm watching the US-T&T match and around the 10 minute mark, a US guy gets called for offisides when he was easily 2 yards onsides with two T&T defenders between him and the goal. I don't know who the linesman was who made that call but my god did he screw it up. The goalie made the save on the play but there is no reason a referee should miss a call by that much. The same linesman just blew another call right around the 31 minute mark where he called Eddie Johnson offsides when he was on by a solid yard. Not as bad as the first one but still blatantly the wrong call. Where do they find these guys? I realize Eddie Johnson would have screwed it up anyway but at least give him the chance to score. Right on 51 minutes when a T&T guy is down with an injury, FSC shows a guy in the crowd pouring a beer into one of those long plastic air horns and his buddy is chugging it. HILARIOUS!!! I'm not necessarily too high on Ching, but that pass he made to Donovan to set up the second US goal (the one Johnson put in) was gold. To make that pass - and split the two defenders with it to boot - rather than turn and run with the ball was superb. Well done, Brian.
  5. http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/hot_Muslim_chick2.jpg muslimfriends.com?!?!?! HAHAHAHA!!! Awesome.
  6. At least we didn't get expensive arthritic crap in return.
  7. I long for the day we beat Mexico in their stadium. I can't even imagine what the reaction would be down there. It would be truly glorious. I fear for the safety of the US players if they beat them. Excellent point.
  8. I like to understand the announcers if possible. That way I can yell at them when they say stupid things.
  9. I've got to see if one of the bars gets FSC and will be showing the game on Sunday because I would much prefer to watch this game live rather than downloading it and watching it the next day.
  10. The greatest sport in the world.
  11. Who in the world was he able to throw out? Nick Markakis-it was on a 3-1 count, so it might have been a hit and run (similar to how Lee got thrown out either today or yesterday). He must have been running backwards.
  12. Izzy was in the correct position. Howry just made a mental mistake. Since when is making the runner go back to the bag incorrect? That's what you're taught to do. Had Izzy been in the baseline (where he should have been) he would have been able to tag Lofton out.
  13. No, Barrett inexplicably threw the ball behind the runner. To imitate Barrett, Howry would have had to turn (right after catching the ball) and inexplicably throw the ball behind the runner without even running at the runner. Barrett's play was downright dumb and was a play that a little leaguer would make. Howry got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple inches. it was a bad play Unlucky =/= bad. how the hell was it unlucky? once lofton got between howry and second base, he should have thrown it. howry held it for a pretty long period of time, allowing lofton to get back. it wasn't luck, it was a stupid, stupid play that cost the cubs the game. had barrett done it, there'd be 10 threads about it. Then go start a thread about how much you hate Howry and how you wish you could have Barrett's babies - which is apparently what you want to do. Comparing what Howry did to what Barrett did isn't fair to Howry. Barrett did something you are taught not to do in freaking little league. Howry did the fundamentally correct baseball play and the tag missed by a couple inches. That's unlucky.
  14. Just saw the replay on SportsCenter and, had Izturis actually been right in the baseline instead of two feet out of it, he would have been able to make the tag on Lofton.

  17. Can't complain too much? Come on... That has to be an out. He made the right play and ran at the runner. He just got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple of inches. A true Cubs play would have been for Howry to throw behind Lofton allowing Lofton to advance to third. He made the right play initially, but once you have him committed to going back towards 2nd base you need to get rid of the ball. Howry held the ball for about 2 seconds too long and it cost him, and the game. How do you know it cost him the game. If Howry makes the play there's a runner on first with two outs. With Catalanotto's hit, the runner would have been going on contact and probably could have scored anyway. because Catalanotto probably doesn't even PH in that situation if there is a man on 1st with 2 out. Bottom line is Howry held the ball too long, that has to be an out. Again, though, you still can't definitively say it cost him the game.
