Who thinks in trying to convince Tejada to stay....Angelos' will meet Boras' demand( 7yrs/$84 mill) on Johnny Damon? Then everybody will pronounce Angelos' is Boras' new ________ well, you get the hint. I think we are about to see Angelos overpay for a FA.

But Rincon is a mil cheaper than King would have been.. King wasnt all that great either.. and no I'm not saying Rincon is either.. Could do worse though.. I think either the Cubs will get Tejada within the next couple of days or the Angels or Astros will swoop in and get him in a week. I doubt the Astros, simply because they have to set aside SOME money to possibly re-sign Clemens, if Roger wants to come back in 2006. Besides outside of Taylor Buchloz (the kid that got for Wagner, sp?) is prolly the closest to being a "high end prosect" the Astros have. And if the Stros are seriously considering the Lidge for Abreu deal, then that would effectively take them out of the Tejada sweepstakes. Realistically,it is really down to two teams...Cubs and Angels. They didn't offer Clemens arbitration, they can't sign him until May 1. I'm maybe ahalf-baked idiot, but not a total idiot, and I do know he wasn't offer arby. Now he isn't going to sign with any team outside of Texas, you know it, I know it, and Clemens knows it.

True but he was a "big name" pickup designed to rally their fan base while also distracting from the upstart Nationals. Oh come on....you don't think Pierre can rally the Cubs fan base, and overshadow the Jim Thome acquisition. Ok...eough sarcasm.

That doesn't change the fact that Baltimore will do the Ramirez for Tejada deal. 1: You don't trade a big level talent to a division (even tho, they would be getting a darn good player back), and if you do...make sure the Red Sox include Peplebon, Declarman, and/or Marte. 2: Baltimore wants nothing to do with the headache that is Manny Ramirez. Not to mention the fact that Angelos, values money over winning, would be vry hesitant to trade for a player making around $20 mill per.

Baltimore has now jumped in the "Johnny Damon sweepstakes."

Seconded! I'm going to go against the grain and say I would not make this trade. I would be willing to part with all of those prospects for a bat that would be the centerpiece of our lineup. Tejada, however, would be the third best hitter in our lineup. Not worth it, IMO. In his MVP year, (awarded mostly because of his 131 RBIs) he had an .862 OPS. His career OPS is .815. This guy is good, not great. I think if we took that package and threw in Harvey, we could pry Miguel Cabrera away. Much younger, and would instantly be the #1 bat in our lineup. Sure it they are prepare to offer any and or all of the following: Abe Alvarez/Manny Delcarmen/Jonathan Papelbon/Andy Marte, with Marte being the "centerpiece." Boston isn't going to land Tejada, I think anybody with a brain knows that Baltimore ain't trading him to Boston. Perferably, they want him out of the AL, but they still will take the best offer, AL or NL. (Hopefully the Cubs offer, entices them)

First: Possibly getting Tejada would be one heck of a Christmas present. Second: As much as those knuckleheads in Boston think they can get Tejada, I simply don't see Baltimore trade Tejada for Ramirez. Now if Boston would offer Marte, Peplobon (sp?), Declarman and/or Alvarez, then I believe Baltimore would be more interested. Baltimore ain't going to take theheacache that is Ramirez for Tejada. Third: I would rate the Cubs as the 2nd most likely team to get Tejada, just behind the Angels....The Angels have Aybar/Hendrick/Woood/Callespo (sp?) that they could use, then add in either MacPherson/Kotchman, and maybe Shields or Santana....The Angels could DWARFED the Cubs in offer. But, if I was Jim, I still put my best offer on the table.

my opinion of these offers Agreed. The Orioles would DEMAND Milledge and Seo also in the deal. Don't know if Minyaya would do tho. No. Even tho they've sign prolly the two most overrated picthers on the markets, they are getting awfully close to the budget limited---which i heard is about $75 million. So I believe the Blue Jays are not really a match. Besides that have Aaron Hill and Russ Adams who are both natural SS, and cheaper. The Blue Jays would have to offer Adams/Hill, Dustin McGowan, and prolly another prospect. Don't think they will go overbudget for Tejada, thus they are not really a fit for the Orioles. Try Kendrick/Aybar/Wood (one of the three) prolly Shields, and Kotchman. The Angels COULD feesibly make a strong run at Tejada, but wouldn't that go against Tejada's wish of "staying on the East Coast?" Not that he has a choice, but he may not be happy about going back to Cali. Atleast the Cubs would still be NEAR the EC. They don't have the money to make the deal. The Padres barely re-sign Hoffman/Giles, so I don't think they trade a very solid productive SS (who is cheap) for a player making almost 10 times as much. Granted Tejada would give the West to the Padres, but I don't see Towers doing that trade. And the fact that the Orioles are in no hurry to trade Tejada within the division. Boston is not a feesible destination, unless they get a 3rd team into the deal. It isn't so much the talent package, but it the combination of the talent, contender status, and the money (assuming after he is dealt, he would have the right to demand a trade after 2006) needed to re-sign Tejada after he choose to use his "right to demand a trade."

There is an clause that is kicked in, automatically (see Javier Vazquez) that allows a player the "right to demand a trade" if he is dealt in the middle of a multi-year contract. So yes, Tejada has that right now, if he is dealt.

Guys.....there would be a BIG concern if the Cubs or any other team acquires Miguel Tejada. That concern is that Tejada could OPT out of his contract after the 2006 season, seeing he maybe dealt during a contract. And with the contract that Furcal got, and what Renteria and Cabrera got last yr....I am willing to bet, unless some team rips up his current contract, and signs him to a NEW contract starting at $15 million, Tejada is must assuredly going to opt out after the 2006 season. So the question is....are the Cubs willing to go $15 mill per for 5 yrs for Tejada, provided they acquire him?

I'd go Welly for JD Closser....With Audoin and Torrealba expected to split time, and Ojeda also within the org...I think the Cubs could use a guy like Closser at AAA, and have him take over as backup catcher in 2007.

Well, then Romero wasn't the only one who have a "problem with Gardenhire." If memory serves me well...didn't either Kyle Lohse or Joe Mays have a run-in with Gardenhire? If you are going to trade Romero, don't just dump him, get something of value back. They could had gotten atleast Aybar or Izturis for him.
