  1. More Garza love: Can't wait till Friday! :)
  2. Boise is up 9-3 in the 8th. Canzler and Matulia both hit 3-run HRs, for Russ Canzler, it's the second straight day he's hit a HR. Tyler Colvin is 1 for 4. Jose Pina went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs (1 ER). Alessandro Maestri has gone 3 innings of relief and gave up 1 run.
  3. Disappointing to see him give up as many HRs tonight as he did all of this season and the previous 2 combined. Billy seems to be succumbing to the big inning so far in Daytona: July 29th: 6 IP, 3 ER -> all 3 ER came in the third inning Aug 4th: 5+ IP, 3 ER -> all 3 ER came in the sixth inning Today: 5.1 IP, 5 ER -> 3 ER in the 2nd, 2 ER in the sixth He also seems to be tiring, definitely has in the last two starts, as he hasn't been able to get out of the 6th.
  4. Petrick gets 1-2-3 4th and 5th innings. Daytona down 3-0 in the middle of the 6th. Billy: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, K, 2 HR, 7 GO : 6 FO He's out there to start the 6th inning, hopefully the 6th goes better than his 6th last time out.
  5. Petrick's third: Hall: Line single. Malec: FC, 6-4. Hit too slow for a GIDP. Ehlers: Pop out. Gonzalez: Single, Malec goes to third and on the throw to third, Gonzalez goes to second. Greenwood: Walks on a close changeup on a full count, bases loaded. Mound visit. Mendoza: FO - 8 :phew: 3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 HR, 3 GO : 5 FO
  6. Let's all admire the fact that the Israeli-Hizbollah quagmire plays second fiddle to infidelity on the Mets. I mean, did the guys at the Onion get a hold of the Post? Psh, it's only Hezbollah's deadliest blitz.
  7. Bah. After a 1-2-3 first inning, Billy Petrick surrenders a 2-run HR and a solo shot to start off the 2nd inning. Those 2 HRs are 2 more than Billy gave up last season in 37 innings and just 1 less than the 3 he gave up in 146.2 innings in 2004. :( In the bottom of the 3rd, Tampa leads Daytona 3-0.
  8. How many more posts are on premium? And how is it sorted that certain posts are only on premium? Everytime I read regular the conversation seems smooth with no missing link. It's not that certain posts are only found in premium, it's just that a premium page will hold 20 posts while a regular page will hold 15. That means that threads are smaller in premium (in terms of pages) and certain posts in a thread will be on different pages depending on whether it is being read in premium or regular.
  9. Iowa is now 2 back of first-place Nashville.
  10. Nope. The Maddux signing was longer. Whatever, Mets fan. Yeah, the Nomar trade is probably longer.
  11. If you're coming, let me know. That'd be great - we could have more than one person to ask these questions. I'm in! I didn't know that it's going to be at the Huntington, that's just a few minutes away from me. I'll PM you before Tuesday.
  12. Next Year's Value: 1. Marshall - he and Hill are close 2. Hill 3. Guzman 4. Marmol Trade Value: 1. Marmol - most upsides besides Guzman, doesn't have the injury problems of Angel 2. Marshall 3. Hill 4. Guzman Long Term Value: 1. Guzman - best ceiling, I think injury problems will be limited going forward 2. Marshall 3. Marmol 4. Hill I think Marmol is best served as a reliever at the end of the pen, which is why his long term value is lower. I'd be most willing to trade him or one of Marshall/Hill. I think Guzman's trade value is down compared to his value to the Cubs.
  13. Iowa still leads 4-1 as we go to the bottom of the 5th.
  14. Very good point and I agree. You notice that a lot of guys with lower BAs have much higher IsoDs than guys with higher BAs - it doesn't necessarily mean they have a better eye or are more patient.
  15. The I-Cubs need new commercials. I really don't want to hear about hemorrhoid surgeries. Plus, they're interviewing random pointless people on the broadcast. A girl who works media relations and is leaving the I-Cubs to return to University of Iowa. And before that, some guy who had that aforementioned hemorrhoid surgery. Seriously. Iowa up 4-1 after 3.
  16. Iowa's bottom of the 2nd: Jose Reyes HBP. Augie Ojeda bloops a single to LF. With Les Walrond batting, Reyes is picked off second base. One out. Walrond strikes out bunting foul. Two outs. With Felix Pie batting, Ojeda steals second. Felix Pie doubles down the RF line, Ojeda scores. Iowa up 3-1. Buck Coats singles to RF, Pie scores. Iowa up 4-1. Michael Restovich pops out. Iowa leads it 4-1 after 2.
  17. Iowa scores 2 in the bottom of the first on a Restovich double (scoring Felix Pie who singled to lead off the inning) and then Hoffpauir hit a sac fly to score Buck Coats (who had singled). Portland gets one back in the top of the second, in the middle of the second, Iowa leads 2-1.
  18. Thanks. I might be going now thanks to my mom or her Medill grad co-workers, just have to get out of work. :)
  19. Where did you hear/read this? Bruce Miles said it on page 11 (premium) of this game thread: No, I don't know that he did. I had it at 20-80 him coming back about a month ago. I've got it at 50-50 and rising every day right now.
  20. So the Twins replace one rookie stud with another: Garza gets promoted, will start on Friday. Can't wait to see him pitch. :D
  21. Not a bad trade at all, Chico and Mock have great stuff and both are former third rounders. They're going to be near or at the top of Washington's crappy farm system.
  22. Hopefully, I too have noticed that (moreso with Rundle and Andersen, since they are HS kids). Colvin's walk rate isn't too shabby either. Using Chase Utley is probably not the right comparison for a Ryan Harvey-type. He might or might not have the same about of walks this year as last season, but his walk rate has been going down each and every season, this season included. This isn't that surprising, one would expect a players' walk rate to go down as he goes up the ladder, but with someone with as poor plate discipline as Harvey, that's a real big problem. I'm not going to say he has no chance of improving but I really don't think a guy who's been playing pro baseball for 4 seasons is going to make the drastic changes needed. It's a tough change, and as craig points out, one has to make the right change. It's not just enough to cut down on strikeouts, he has to improve his swing, hold back on the offspeed stuff, etc. I don't think he can do it.
  23. Probable Starters: Iowa: Les Walrond (8-4, 3.98 ERA, 113 IP) vs. RHP Dewon Brazelton (4-3, 2.67 ERA) WT: RHP Sean Gallagher (5-3, 2.96 ERA, 54.2 IP; overall: 9-3, 2.57 ERA, 133 IP) Daytona: RHP Billy Petrick (1-1, 4.91 ERA, 11 IP; overall: 6-1, 2.85 ERA, 47.1 IP) Boise: RHP Jose Pina (1-5, 5.40 ERA, 38.1 IP) Walrond: 88/53, 1.51 WHIP Gallagher (WT): 51/38, 1.65 WHIP Gallagher (Daytona & WT): 131/59, 1.40 WHIP Petrick (Daytona): 8/1, 1.55 WHIP Petrick (Boise & Daytona): 36/13, 1.39 WHIP Pina: 19/14, 1.33 WHIP
