    Oregon State's play calling is as bad as UCLA's. Drop back deep for a pass on 2nd and goal at the goal line? Don't get the play call in until :05 on the play clock? Thank God Matt Moore transferred from UCLA.

    how so? If we're playing in Wilt's era when there weren't as many good big men to compete with, then you have to go with Wilt. But in today's game Wilt wouldn't be near as dominant as he was in his day simply because there are more good big men. I'd take MJ if we're starting anywhere after 1975. Yeah, that's what I meant.

    USC looking great again. :) Already down 7-0 to Oregon State, Booty is picked off in the endzone and himself saves a pick-6 by pushing the DB out of bounds at midfield.

    Hard enough to divvy up the minutes without giving them to guys that aren't on the team, eh? :wink: I think he meant that Ben will get more minutes than Chandler did last year so that's few minutes to spread around the team than last yaer.

    Yeah, I agree. I'm guessing that's going to either force Samardzija's hand or really hurt him in the draft. I'm also hoping that underclassmen WR like Dwayne Jarrett, Calvin Johnson and Sidney Rice turn pro to knock Samardzija down some more. :)

    Hey, David Eckstein also won the MVP of the World Series. Maybe we should sign a bunch of guys with lines of .292/.350/.344/.694 (Eckstein in 2006). Then, as long as we're at it, we should sign a guy who posted a ERA of 5.76, an ERA+ of 76, and a 1.51 WHIP. We'll win the World Series for sure. Hey now, I think Jon got it right. Go for the catcher with the sub-.600 OPS. You know, the catcher who gets more hits in the playoffs than in any full month other than June.

    Haha, if that is an example of the officiating in the NU-Michigan game, then Michigan is even worse than the scoreboard indicates. Of course Northwestern deserves to lose for having a Cardinal fan for a kicker. :puker:

    Samardzija still wants to try to play both and no rule forces him not to in the NFL. The problem is, there will be mandatory camps and whatnot during the minor league season. And of course, the first NFL game will conflict with the end of the minor league season. As of now, most mock drafts I've seen have him going in the late first round or the second round.

    This makes sense too. From what I saw, Clevenger is defensively challenged at second. That's partly because Clevenger had moved to a new position from his time at college (he was a SS-3B).

    Interesting: This is going to greatly affect the Cubs' late round drafting strategy as DFEs are a favorite of Wilken's.

    who be sinatro and strode? I don't know much about either of them, but I just looked it up. Matt Sinatro was a little used catcher for 11 years in the major leagues. He was a bullpen coach for Piniella in Seattle, and might have been in Tampa Bay as well. Lester Strode has been the Cubs minor league pitching coordinator for 11 years now. Yeah, Sinatro was also the bullpen coach at Tampa Bay. Strode was a pitching assistant for the big league Cubs in 1994 and 1995 before going to the minor league pitching coordinator job.

    Scout.com with a story on the instructs. Highlights: -Pie worked on base running and stealing with Bob Dernier. -Trying out new positions: Matt Camp was at second base as Steve Clevenger and Casey McGehee tried out catcher. -Ryan Harvey made a good impression on Tim Wilken.

    Well, it wasn't the first time he's done it in the AFL (though his other 3 IP appearance had only 25 pitches). Lincoln gave up 3 of his runs in his last inning of work where he looked like he got tired. Piggy hasn't pitched since last Saturday because of a cut in his non-throwing hand. He's been throwing catch and working in the bullpen in the mean time and expects to get into games once his stitches come off on Tuesday.
