  1. I just hope the NFL doesn't discover that WBBM is broadcasting it's games online.
  2. I was frustrated with Dusty's usage pattern of him (I thought he was used way too much for being so inconsistent) and how he was in the big leagues ahead of Wuertz. I had no problem with him being ahead of Aardsma in the pecking order and being with the big league club, which I think others didn't like. You'd be hard pressed to find relievers who were worse than Dempster last year. :)
  3. Leones beat the Caribes 1-0, box: Leones: C H. Blanco 0/4, K Caribes: CF C. Walker 3/4, 2B (2), K, 2 SB (10) RP T. Atlee 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 K/0 BB Overall: Henry Blanco (Leones): 4/18, .222/.222/.333/.555, 0 BB, 1 K Chris Walker (Caribes): 15/47, .319/.418/.426/.844, 1 HBP, 7 BB, 10 K, 10/12 SB Thomas Atlee (Caribes): 6.2 IP, 0 R, 6 H, 4 K/2 BB, 0.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
  4. Fair enough, I have no problem with Wuertz closing. But what do you do with Dempster and his contract?
  5. Who's your closer next year then, RichHillIsABeast? (For the record, I agree with everything you said, raw...outside of the Novoa thing.)
  6. Guys like Chambliss and Jackson have preached patience in a similar manner to Joshua and have had big league success while Von Joshua has shown success in teaching minor leaguers. I think Joshua is more valuable to the Cubs working in the minors. No doubt he deserves to get back to the big leagues (I don't think he should have been fired from the White Sox). And yes, I'm partial to Jackson over Chambliss.
  7. And Culican's doubleheader was postponed today due to rain. Good times.
  8. Yeah, but their highlights don't have the WBBM announcers. And only the good Bears plays in it. And don't require Jon to work an hour or so compiling them.
  9. Yes and yes. I think Von Joshua is more valuable to the Cubs at the minor league level.
  10. and how far did that 'strength' take the cubs last year? I never understood the concept of turning a strength into a weakness. That strength didnt take the Cubs too far last year, because eveything else about the Cubs was a complete joke. Trading Scott Eyre isn't going to make the bullpen a weakness. Who takes his place then? Will Ohman, Clay Rapada...maybe in the second half, Ed Campusano. If Eyre is a big part of a trade for a bat that improves the team, like JD Drew, I don't see how you pass it up.
  11. Mesa loses 7-5, box: 2B E. Patterson 2/4, R, 3B (1), CS (2), 2 E (4: fielding, 5: throwing) LF S. Moore 1/4, R, 2B (4), RBI (7) C. J. Fox 0/3, K (6) Overall: Eric Patterson: 17/49, .347/.396/.449/.845, 4 BB, 5 K, 6/8 SB, 5 E Scott Moore: 10/43, .233/.353/.395/.748, 8 BB, 11 K, 4/4 SB, 1 E Jake Fox: 6/29, .207/.233/.276/.509, 1 BB, 6 K, 1/1 SB, 1 E
  12. the prelude to a bench spot in 2007? he can play 3b, 1b & lf all for guys who (hopefully in aram's case) bat righty. Ugh, I hope not. He needs to be playing everyday, preferably at Iowa.
  13. Translated by Babelfish: Better translation: "Everyone knows how Lou Piniella is; he's an intense man, but he is also a good manager". Yeah, that's what I had, but I didn't want to post my Spanish skills for fear of more proficient speakers pointing out mistakes.
  14. Scott Moore starting in LF for Mesa today.
  15. Translated by Babelfish:
  16. Tuesday in the Dominican League (PDF file): Estrellas lose 6-1: C J. Reyes 0/3 Felix Pie with the day off in a Tigres 4-1 loss. Overall: Jose Reyes (Estrellas): 1/10, .100/.100/.400/.500, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K Felix Pie (Tigres): 5/19, .263/.263/.368/.631, 2 2B, 0 BB, 2 K
  17. Came over from the Marlins for Todd Wellemeyer. Had some injury problems in the past (was considered a pretty good reliever prospect in the Marlins' system before the injuries) but has impressed this fall in the AFL. Has a low-to-mid 90s FB and a sharp slider, his control has improved quite a bit too.
  18. Eyre could fetch a pretty penny and could be replaced by Rapada, imo.
  19. I read that the new rules start now. might you be thinking about the new rule V rules? Yeah, the changes in Rule 5 start this year, the changes in Rule 4 (the June amateur draft) compensation picks start next year.
  20. According to Baseball America, the Rule 5 changes take place this offseason itself.
  21. Depends on if you think Henry Blanco is a star or not.
  22. Great news! I didn't think it applied to this offseason when I read it off MLB's site last night. I'd protect Petrick now (though I was never too keen to protect Harvey). And here is a link to what Nathan was talking about: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/news/262720.html
  23. Before he hurt his finger in July, it looked like he would be added to the 40-man and promoted to the Cubs' pen.
  24. Arizona Phil made his predictions of who'd get protected:
