  1. Well, players *do* decline in their 30s after career years in their late 20s and even early 30s. Lee won't have the benefit of steroids/HGH to help him later on, and quite frankly, Carlos Lee doesn't seem to be the type of guy who's a gym rat - a feature that is needed for most players to keep going at career high levels well into their 30s. then Sabathia, Zambrano, etc. will all suck soon too? I'm talking about hitters. Pitchers are a completely different beast.
  2. Of course if it's snowy and bad weather for the Bears, the other team's QB will still be playing in sunny, clear weather. EDIT: This means the OL doesn't like to block when it's rainy.

  4. Lee had career highs in HR, RBI and SLG this year. Clearly on the decline He did? He did have career highs in HR, RBI (team stat, who cares?) and SLG. Then again, he played 40% of last season in Texas.
  5. No, don't you see? Once baseball players hit the mythic age of 32, they automatically go down every year (even when they don't) You think Lee is going to improve as he ages? He's not the athlete/fitness freak that guys like Bonds are.
  6. Why? Are you telling me that guys like Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, etc. were worse than good veteran players after their first full season? Why can't Lee be on the decline? He's 30, overweight and will soon need to DH. On the flip side, Murton can be had for less than a million dollars for the next few years, allowing the Cubs to fill other holes in the team. Why are we supposed to ignore Murton vs. Lee in the second half? Because you guy didn't perform as well, despite playing in the hitter's haven that is the Ballpark in Arlington?
  7. Hoffman second!?
  8. About time. The city of Glendale, AZ and the Dodgers were dragging it out and that wasn't really fair to Vero Beach. EDIT: Never mind, apparently they're in "negotiations" with the city of Glendale. They've been in negotiations since last spring.
  9. I truly hope that Hendry is not counting on any of the above named pitchers to start the season in the rotation. Last year they all proved that they weren't ready quite yet. next year isn't last year. Next year isn't a good year to put those guys back into prominent roles either. They stunk. And will most likely continue to stink, as none of them showed any sort of progress as the year went on. I can see Guzman making the leap with the added year. His performance showed he hadn't piched regularly in 2.5 years (much worse command, control, no sink on his pitches) and I think that's something that could come after the offseason. Marshall really struggled (dramatically worse control, HRs given up) and got worse as the season went on. I think Mateo is a reliever, Marmol needs to improve his control in the minors and might be best served in the pen, O'Malley is no one to get excited about. Anyone I forgot?
  10. Your memory serves you correctly, splendid splinter.
  11. I'd prefer to keep Ohman and trade Eyre. Simple economics. me too. if they trade eyre, they can use ohman & rapada as the lefties out of the pen. Me three.
  12. Clay probably will be added to the 40-man, the deadline is 11/20 (next Monday).
  13. Dude, that's the second time Muskat has mentioned OBP in the last week. Wow.
  14. Tim Wilken gushes over Colvin in a Scout.com story. (Sorry for the bump but I didn't want to start another Tyler Colvin thread.)
  15. Adam Harben's AFL season is over because of that elbow soreness. No one has replaced him on Mesa's roster yet.
  16. Does that mean I was right about the 6-6 teams not getting invited until after all winning record teams get invited? Even if true, UCLA would probably still get a bowl as they're a pretty big name, and IIRC when I did a quick estimate a few days back it looked like about 8 6-6 teams would go to bowls. Yeah, I think you're correct. I would think 6-6 teams would only get invited after teams with winning records. In UCLA's case, the Bruins can be invited at 6-6 but up to eight Pac-10 teams might qualify for bowl games and the conference only has ties to six bowl games.
  17. Ooo, if UCLA wins, they'll qualify for a bowl game but won't be invited (unless they can somehow beat USC too).
  18. Well, he went to instructs in Mesa to work on three things: bunting, pitch selection and base running. He's been bunting well from what I can tell in the PBP. Yes, he's perfect with the base running...but only 3 SB attempts is odd. And pitch selection? All I have to say about that is 14 K/1 BB.
  19. Mesa game suspended, tied 5-5 after 11, box: 2B E. Patterson 1/5, RBI (13), SB (13) LF S. Moore 1/5, R, 3B (2), 2 K (24), HBP RP C. Pignatiello 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 4 K/2 BB, 1 GO-0 FO, 30 pitches (16 strikes) RP C. Rapada 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 GO-0 FO, 12 pitches (6 strikes) Overall: Eric Patterson: 35/100, .350/.414/.480/.894, 11 BB, 12 K, 13/15 SB, 6 E Scott Moore: 25/96, .260/.360/.479/.839, 1 HBP, 14 BB, 24 K, 4/5 SB, 3 E Carmen Pignatiello: 8 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 14 K/4 BB, 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP Clay Rapada: 13 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 16 K/2 BB, 2.77 ERA, 0.58 WHIP
  20. Bwahhahaha. And people predicted they'd finish ahead of UCLA in the Pac-10. They can't play defense.
  21. If he develops at Iowa, he has a lot of value in a trade - which would help the Cubs a lot more than any bench role he has.
  22. Wait...weren't CT and goony at the Victor Diaz game? We might be in trouble here, folks.
