  2. Ehh, probably somewhere around there. They have one good player (Pendergraph).
  3. And those same people seemed rather ecstatic at the Cubs getting the deal done. The statement was that certain posters criticize *any and every* move the Cubs make...I saw two examples of that being false on Sunday.
  4. The Board of Directors had to get together and agree to it. $42 Million should take about 10 minutes to agree to. Doesn't mean it takes 10 minutes for them to get together. Doesn't mean it takes 6 days to get together either. If they are trying to prove the validity of the offer, thats fine, but they are not "milking" it for media attention as someone else speculated. They knew when the deadline was a few weeks ago, they could have picked the date for the meeting to accept a while ago. If anyone seems to be milking it, I think it'd be MLB.
  5. I guess you missed Sunday, when everyone was oh-so-critical of Aramis and Kerry re-signing.

  8. Agreed. Coulda gone after Iwamura. Could go after Loretta instead, who'll be cheaper than Durham.

  10. Ugh. East Bay A's of Fremont is my prediction.
  11. i detonated on test, jim hendry should come take lessons on closing the deal Good thing Hendry doesn't take your tests for you.
  12. First off, Derrek Lee was 29 for most of his career year in 2005. And Sosa, McGwire...you forgot Bonds. We don't know how many of these players were aided by illegal supplements. Next off, you mention one year for both Lees, that doesn't show anything.
  13. Coulda saved the $4 M and added a bit more for a guy like Durham or Loretta. You don't think the difference is going to so to Soriano or pitchers? It might, but I think that in the end, the Cubs won't be able to afford Soriano.

  15. No financial details? nope, all that was said was three years. i am checking around and don't see it anywhere else but it was on the update i promise you. I don't doubt it, Hendry has shown interest in DeRosa before Aramis re-signed. Meh. I was hoping for Durham or Loretta for 2B (I figured the Cubs weren't interested in Iwamura). I'll hold of judgement till I hear the financial details.
  16. I'm intrigued by Jennings, but the Cubs have ery limited tradable assets that can net good players, so I'm not that interested.
  17. Nobody is saying that, though. This is how you avoid disaster contracts like the Yankees are saddled with right now, and like we have been in the past. You don't sign a 30 year old guy (outside of a real superstar like an ARod or Pujols) coming off a career year to a big money long-term contract. so are you against signing Lee, Soriano and/or Drew? All will get multiple years and all are over 30 Soriano and Drew might play positions of need, but yes, I'm wary of all three (Drew: injury history; Soriano: contract year?). But both are less likely to need to be DHing in 2-3 years.
  18. Rex's good play also coincided with when the OL started to actually block and Jones actually started getting yards - the reasons I think Rex played better. I'm sure the improving weather didn't hurt, but to chalk it up just to the weather when there are other reasons (which you don't at the end of this post) isn't the right thing to do.
  19. Heard from where? Davhearn said it on the last page telling me that pujols, howard, etc. beg to differ about older players having pop. I think he was talking about how you "heard" that power hitters peak at age 32. Yes, that's what I was wondering, rjchapma.
  20. Well, players *do* decline in their 30s after career years in their late 20s and even early 30s. Lee won't have the benefit of steroids/HGH to help him later on, and quite frankly, Carlos Lee doesn't seem to be the type of guy who's a gym rat - a feature that is needed for most players to keep going at career high levels well into their 30s. then Sabathia, Zambrano, etc. will all suck soon too? Why are you using the word suck? That's dishonest. Decline does not mean suck. Besides, pitchers peak years are a completely different story than than hitters. Oh, I didn't even notice he used "suck."
  21. You have got to be kidding. Minaya sucks to even be thinking of that.
