  1. Jeff still not missing any bats. Or allowing runs. He's been getting a lot of 2-strike counts, though. Gotta improve the out pitch. Daytona loses 6-4.
  2. Petrick looked really good against his two batters - he came in with the bases loaded and struck out two guys. Good heat and offspeed, I hear. :D Stupid rain delay cuts his outing.
  3. Gallagher's final line is: 6.2 IP, 2 ZER, 5 H, 8 K/3 BB Daytona delayed by rain, down 5-4. Brian posted Jeff Samardzija's final line. Mueller gave up 3 in the 6th but Billy Petrick came in and got 2 Ks to end the jam before the rains came. Looks like they're getting ready to resume the game. Iowa up 4-0. Les Walrond with 6 shutout.
  4. My goodness, so many rain and snow outs in the minors so far.
  5. Love the Felix Pie rain delay story.
  6. Let us know how he looked if you go! oh, i'm definitely going....already have tickets for sunday and tuesday's games....just need to find out when he is pitching. Well, if you assume that his outing on Monday would be the equivalent of a side session, then he'd be able to start Thursday. If you want four-days rest, he'd throw on Saturday. But those are only guesses, who knows what the I-Cubs are going to do.
  7. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/news/263730.html Scherzer signed with the independent Ft. Worth Cat (as did former Cub prospect Chadd Blasko).
  8. By the way, I read somewhere that Sean Marshall should be up with Iowa sometime next week. Hopefully Mateo isn't far behind.
  9. Considering patience has been his biggest knock all the way through our system, it was a very pleasant surprise to see him taking some pitches, while at the same time being aggressive. I would like to see a slight adjustment to his swing though - too much of a fly ball swing, not enough of a line-drive swing. His patience has improved quite a bit this this season (though it was just a few weeks of minor league games, but he has been talking about how the Cubs have been emhasizing it).
  10. Not including Walrond, though. Who has the lowest ERA amongst the Cub minor league starters. :P That just just means he has pitched well, not that he's actually "good". Not much of a future for big Les. I know, just messing around. :)

  12. I'm blaming luck (re: the wind blowing in) for the Cubs only scoring 3 runs yesterday. That is not luck. It's a well known fact of life about April baseball. Which way the wind is blowing is hardly a fact. The winds often are blowing in on cooler/colder days - and there are quite a few of those in April.
  13. I think it's just the hope. It just doesn't make sense to me to send him down if that weren't the case considering how well he's been pitching. Not just hope anymore. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070417cubsbits,1,6444674.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines "Guzman will move into the rotation at Iowa and likely will make two starts before the Cubs decide whether to bring him back as a starter. With an off-day on April 26, the Cubs will need their fifth starter only one more time until May 1 at Pittsburgh." The writing is on the wall, Mr. Miller. Not to bring the idea down any, but you're just quoting Paul Sullivan's speculations. If this has basis in what he has heard from a team official, he certainly didn't present it that way. I agree that the only other explanation for the move is unparalleled ignorance, but nothing would shock me with this organization. I guess I'm just saying it's still just hope and speculation. Either way, most Chicago newspapers are now saying Guzman will be going down to AAA to start so he'll get stretched out. Hopefully it is to push Miller out.
  14. Yay, Vlad might be back on Friday!
  15. What is the scoop on Holliman? I remember the Cubs drafting him, but don't remember the scouting report. Is he a guy that relies on control? FB around 88-91 mph (90-92 mph when he was in college), good curve, slider and change. Last season he started out real strong too but really tailed off in July and August. Still think he's a reliever? Hehehe, let's see how he holds up in the second half this season and if his velo has bounced back. He's started this season much better than last season, though.
  16. Based on what? He's gotten older (turns 32 this season) and it's been 4 seasons since he played shortstop. He doesn't look as mobile as he did when he was with the Rangers (but hey, he'd still be a better defensive SS than Jeter). If, as Bob said, he could prove me wrong, I'd love a Z-for-ARod trade.
  17. Game-time temperature: 67°F Feels like: 67° Mostly cloudy, 10% chance of preciptiation. Winds blowing from RF to LF at about 5 mph.
  18. I don't think ARod will play SS, nor am I sure he can...
  19. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (1-0, 1.64 ERA, 11 IP) Tennessee: RHP Sean Gallagher (1-1, 3.38 ERA, 10.2 IP) Daytona: RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-0, 2.70 ERA, 10 IP) - Samardzija's home opener Peoria: RHP Jose Pina (0-1, 1.80 ERA, 5 IP) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (1-0, 1.23 ERA) Walrond: 11 IP, 6 K/3 BB, .171 BAA Gallagher: 10.2 IP, 9 K/2 BB, .211 BAA Samardzija: 10 IP, 3 K/3 BB, .263 BAA Pina: 5 IP, 5 K/3 BB, .188 BAA

  21. DeRosa's diving stop was BBTN's #2 web gem, Pie's throw was #5. What a beautiful throw. :)
