  1. Good question. I think he's just holding out for Rich Hill's start. NOT cool. Garwilly has been skipped. EJ has been added.
  2. Renshaw today, not Pina. Pina Tuesday. Last Thursday's DH screwed us up! Back on track after the Wed off day with Dolis & Ceda.... Thanks, Nate. How bad is the injury with Muldowney? I'm glad Renshaw will take his place in the rotation, I was a fan of his after reading up on him after last year's draft. ---------------- Bad news about Gallagher - glad to hear it's only precautionary. He's been such a horse the past few seasons though. Doctor on Tuesday....best case is out 2 weeks with a sprain/strain... Ugh.
  3. Hey Mick. Can you tell us a bit about Mark Holliman? His velocity was down last year from college, has he gotten back into the 90s? What's he doing right to start the season with 21 shutout innings?

  8. Matt Barnes and Baron Davis were huge there! :D
  9. 3:18 to go...c'mon Baron and the boys...
  10. That's my boy! I played behind him at Ole Miss. He's sick. I'm very happy for him. I dont remember hearing much about him. Whats his stuff like? How does he project, how old is he ect. He's 23...2005 third round pick from Mississippi...6' tall. Fastball from 88-91 and a good curve, he also has a slider and a change. I think he'll end up being a reliever though - esp if his FB velo is still down (it was low 90s in college but upper 80s last season). I know raw is a big fan.
  11. 21 shutout innings for Holliman to start the season. Wow.
  12. Robbie Gould sure can't sing. But he can kick field goals, so he's cool in my book.

  16. What can you tell us about Wellington Castillo? He's not even 20 yet and he's been hitting 3rd and 5th in the lineup and holding his own (even got a HR the other day). I'm guessing his defense has a ways to go given the errors and passed balls, but it's exciting to see a 19-year old catcher doing well at low-A (even if it's early).
  17. With someone like Rich Hill, the control was there in the minors but not in the majors. Marmol has never had better than average control, and generally it's been rather poor. At this point, if they see him as a closer prospect, I don't think they'd be hurting his development by shifting him to the bullpen. The Cubs have a lot of guys in the pipeline who are really starter-only prospects (Gallagher, Veal, Samardzija) and if Z is signed, there are four guys set in the rotation for the next couple of years. Meanwhile, the pen has a good number of veterans (Howry, Eyre) and guys who are marginal (Ohman, Cotts). So I favor moving him to the bullpen. There's nothing wrong with stretching him out and letting him work on his pitches from the rotation now even if he is a closer prospect. We once viewed Aardsma as a closer prospect, and he did some starting as well just to help him work on his pitches and command. I agree. Even if Marmol ends up a reliever (which is very possible), I think he should start and get in as many innings as possible. Especially because he's a converted position player and could definitely use the innings for development.
  18. Tonight was a game that most would not have wanted to attend. Going to anymore games?
  19. Tennessee up 5-0. Kevin Hart with 7 shutout innings.
  20. That's not good. It's possible that he won't even get the Thursday start-if management decides that he is not right for the 5th spot, then I could easily see them not wanting him to start on Thursday because he will likely be recalled on Friday as a reliever. If that happens then (or if he pitches on Thursday and isn't absolutely outstanding) then I don't think he'll get another chance at starter for at least another month. If Marmol keeps pitching like he did his last two outings, Guzman may not get that chance. not saying that marmol is a bust, but he was disturbingly bad with the cubs last year. Personally, I'd like to see him groomed as a closer. Well, he was rushed. His control has been great so far this season, if he can keep that up, he's taken a big step forward.
