  1. we've gotten enough looks at him now and know probably the most about his true talent that i'm not particularly concerned about something like this; the question was brought up a little while back but is instructive, how many players on that list would you trade Contreras for? add 1 to that & that's his ranking Oh, I was only saying that for fun and not for any practical reasons. I just wanted the chance to add another top 25 prospect to Epstein/Hoyer/McLeod's credit.

  3. I haven't read the article yet. I assume they ruled out anyone playing in the bigs as opposed to rookie qualification? Correct. No prospects currently in the majors nor any prospects recently signed on July 2nd or drafted this year. I wonder if Contreras got in the top ten otherwise. He deserved to be up there.
  4. BP released their midseason top 50. Eloy is #28, Gleyber #34, Happ #50. This is a system that's graduated Soler, Baez, Bryant, Russell, Schwarber and Contreras in the last 24 months.

  6. Man, the Cubs haven't scored off the Reds bullpen in the last 8 innings. Wow.
  7. Yeah, MLB needs to fix the human element calling balls and strikes.
  8. Ben Badler is really good even listing the smaller 6-figure signings (obviously Cubs can only sign players for $300k or less) but he hasn't mentioned anything yet.
  9. Ugh. Maybe Coghlan always knew what Kang was capable of. Pirates are calling up Glasnow to face the Cubs this weekend.

  17. I think we're cheering for the pirates these days, right? They're only 1.5 in back of the Cards, so it doesn't matter that much. Personally, though, I'll always cheer for anyone vs the Cards. I'm rooting for them in this series since they're further behind. And obviously anything can happen in short playoff series so this might be a bit presumptuous to say, but the I'd rather face the Pirates than many of the current WC contenders.
  18. The Pirates did jump over .500 with their win today, which means the Cubs added their 8-1 record against the Pirates to their record against teams over .500.
