  2. Contreras 0/0 with 4 BB and a HBP. I think he'll fit in on this big league team.
  3. Justin Steele had 3 scoreless with 4 strikeouts but then couldn't get out of the 4th. 3+ IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
  4. Yeah, Kellogg was working 87-90 in college (obviously with an extra day of rest). That's not a promising velocity report.
  5. He'll start in Eugene. Has a shot at a promotion if he does well by the end of the season especially if South Bend makes the playoffs. Heck, if he keeps pitching like this, the Cubs could surprise us and just promote him straight to South Bend. The main reason why he starts in Eugene is thought to be keeping his innings in check and the Cubs history of moving their prep arms slowly, one level at a time. Because of his innings history and recent surgery, I just don't see how the Cubs will surprise us and push him to South Bend this year. And given his erratic control, it isn't the worst decision even if health and innings jumps weren't a concern.
  6. Given their age in relation to their level, I'd like to see Kellogg and Stinnett promoted if they have a good May.

  9. That's not good. Odd that they pulled Stinnett after only 54 pitches. Thornton has been starting, so maybe he's missed starts and they want to get him some innings, or something? Stinnett's continued to have the ground ball thing going, and his ERA is now down below 2. Small sample, obviously, but seems pretty different from last year. It's a different world when you throw strikes! I wonder if pitch counts are wrong in the lower minors, seeing as Stinnett was pulled after 54 and Sands after 60. That said, Preston Morrison followed Sands so that might be more related to the piggyback situation at South Bend.
  10. Tseng was pulled after retiring one batter in the third. Not sure if he's hurt but he had pitched shutout ball up till then.
  11. He's at the point where a 9.00 ERA through 3 only bumps his ERA up 0.16.
  12. I would be cool with the pen going the rest of the way since Hammel is already on his third time through the lineup.
  13. Stinnett: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 54 pitches Sands: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 60 pitches And the bad: Pierce Johnson: 3 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HBP, 1 HR, already 52 pitches
  14. I do too, which is all the more amusing considering this happened last season.
  15. The A's need to stop being competitive first. Also, I had visions of Teheran being the big trade target while he pitched last night. He's okay, but I'd like to aim higher in case Arrieta doesn't re-sign.
  16. I was seriously wondering if someone was going to start a thread like this today. I know he's a slow starter, but he looks lost at the plate. The good news is that he's sucking and we're still awesome. I always find this sort of statement weird. Most guys who are slumping tend to look lost at the plate.

  18. take out the games against us and how do they look? The Angels and Cardinals are at .500, the rest of the teams the Cubs have played are below .500.
  19. Nah. Another day and this isn't in extras because the Cubs would have already won with the dongs the wind robbed earlier.
  20. I'm impressed the ump called ball four a ball.
  21. Yes. Doesn't mean Smith had a "solid hit" like you said.
  22. Smith's hit wasn't solid - it's a potential DP ball if the runner wasn't going. Hell, Castro's single wasn't hit hard either.
