  4. Welington Castillo was always a catcher, never was converted. You might be thinking of Robinson Chirinos, who converted from middle infielder. Willson was signed as an infielder Haugh writes about it here According to FanGraphs he started 45 games at 3B as late as 2011 The dirty little secret to all those awesome stories about how Willson Contreras converted from his original position as an infielder to catcher is that he actually originally signed as a teenager with the Cubs as a catcher, then moved to infielder, and then converted back: [tweet]https://twitter.com/jorgearangure/status/2438567866[/tweet]

  6. I'm going to go ahead and call it a good road trip for Kris because his leg didn't die at third base in Washington.
  7. The hit Grimm gave up and Uehara's first hit were bounced through the infield. Feels like we're running through relievers pretty quickly this half inning. Hope Edwards is good here.
  8. Low 90's sitting 92-93, topping at 94. He's probably never going to get back to his previous mid-90s velocity but if he can command his pitches like he did today with that movement, he can still be a very good pitcher. Hopefully he can build on today's start but I'm guessing he'll continue to be inconsistent start to start.
  9. Yesterday would've been a horrible time for it. i pretty much just think that at every plate appearance for him at this point. I assume he's capable of hitting at least one this year Jay hit his first HR yesterday.

  11. I wonder if the folks at New York who do reviews know a baseball player can't be out if he's never tagged. What horseshit.

  13. BA's #10 and 15 prospects, Raimfer Salinas and Antonio Cabello likely won't sign today or during this period, according to Ben Badler. Here's Eric Longenhagen on why:

  16. Without looking at stats to back me up, I feel like Kershaw gets pushed longer than most starters in the playoffs because of how shitty his bullpen is (besides Kenley) and that is partially to blame for his memorable playoff meltdowns.
  17. I'm kinda thinking that the plan once everyone is back would be Schwarber-Happ-Heyward. Almora and Jay cycle in against good matchups. Yeah, I think I'd rather have Heyward in CF than Happ, but Happ has proven to be reliable and solid-average in his short time in CF. We'll see how it all shakes out once everyone is healthy and Schwarber returns. J. Jay is a great weapon to bring off the bench as a PH. I didn't think much of it when we signed him, but that was a great pickup. Agreed that the optimal defensive alignment is Heyward in center and not Happ.
  18. Hopefully the silly demotion is over. I doubt he's learning too much at AAA and the big league offense could use the help.
  19. I was just about to ask if his advanced stats suggested he was actually pitching well and not continuing to get lucky because he's only allowed 1 ER in his past 12 innings. But now he will give up a 3 run inning and it will be your fault (and a little mine) His FIP is like 4.2, which is solid. But that's only because he hasn't been giving up homers. And that's a complete aberration since everyone gives up homers now. And he's given up a ton of long flys to the wall. Basically, he's pitched pretty well, even if a little worse than his results indicate. But it's not likely to continue, because he actually sucks. He's also partially protected by only going about 60 pitches/twice through the order.
