  1. I think it's totally fair to criticize the Cubs for their lack of success in finding prospects/pitchers after the 1st round of previous drafts (besides D. Cease and I guess Z. Godley). I think maybe they've revamped their approach and hired a new group of scouts at the lowest levels? Like TT said hopefully hiring Benedict will help in pitcher development. I'm certainly disappointed with the lack of success in properly identifying/developing pitching prospects from the previous draft classes (2012-2017) under Jason McLeod. They didn't hire new scouts but they've revamped what they look for in scouting amateur arms:
  2. Lol, no. The owners have unprecedented profits and yet systematically have introduced rules throughout the game that reduce pay for both big leaguers and amateurs, ask for tax payer-funded stadiums and pay minor leaguers peanuts, but it's the players who have finally reached too far?
  3. No Cubs in the MLB.com top 100. Eloy was 4, Gleyber 5, Cease 61. [tweet]https://twitter.com/bigchrislit/status/957423268167905280[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/brandonkay34/status/957424193779519488[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]

  5. Liked him a lot coming out of college as a potential LOOGY. [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. Add Abbott and Estrada, take out de la Cruz, Galindo and Wilson. (Though Tim's point about pitchers developing is well taken. Guys like Corey Kluber, José Quintana and Jimmy Nelson were never top 100 prospects.)
  7. BA's top 10 JuCo prospects: https://t.co/W8m2EVZEyz?amp=1 1. Josh Breaux, RHP/C, McLennan JC (TX) - ranked 301 in BA's top 500 draft prospects in 2017 2. Trey Dillard, RHP, San Jacinto JC (TX) - ranked 327 in BA's top 500 draft prospects in 2017 3. Spencher Smith, C, Harford JC (MD) - ranked 158 in BA's top 500 draft prospect sin 2017 4. Hunter Wolfe, SS, Walters State JC (TN) - 2017 12th round pick 5. Jason Rackers, RHP, Jefferson JC (MO) 6. Korry Howell, SS, Kirkwood JC (IA) - 2017 19th round pick 7. Shane Kelso, RHP, Feather River JC (CA) 8. Robbie Peto, RHP, State JC of Florida - transferred from UNC 9. Ryan McDonald, RHP, JC of Southern Nevada 10. Tyler Keysor, RHP, East Florida JC
  8. Currently, the Cubs are picking four times in the top 100: 24th (1st round), 63rd (2nd round), 75th (for Wade Davis) and 98th (3rd round). http://m.mlb.com/draft/2018/order
  9. MLB.com will release their top 100 Saturday at 7 pm CT: [tweet] [/tweet] Their team top 30s will come out after that. Keith Law's Cubs top 10 (along with the rest of the NL Central) will come out next Friday.
  10. He also talked crap about Jalen Hurts being happy after Bama won the nat'l title game. Then spent the next day arguing with people who told him he was dumb. Did he do it too? I know Pete Prisco did. [tweet] [/tweet] Heyman's fine when he's breaking news but when it's not concrete, he hedges his bets way too much. And when nothing is going on, he fills the space with mediocre analysis or predictions, nearly always deferring to the biggest spenders (Yankees and Dodgers).
  11. It's possible. Who are you seeing making the jump into the top 50 by next winter? For me, Ademan and Albertos have the best chances right now. As currently perceived, there are only a handful of guys with that kind of ceiling in the organization. That could change going forward, of course. Ademan and Alzolay for jumps inside top 50. Then Albertos, Lange and Little for possible top 100 on top of guys who emerge during the year/one of the 3 top 90 or so picks we have. If Adbert pitches well enough to jump into the top 50, he'll probably have lost his prospect eligibility by the end of the season.
  12. Yes, Morosi. Likely would not accept. [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] I think Craig Brooks could eventually be a nice setup man so it's nice to see him get an invite.
  14. Padres are claiming they were hacked. This continues to be the dumbest offseason. Damn Cardinals.
  15. Please. If it's a boy, it'll be Javy Jr.
  16. Addison Russell is younger than the Brewers #2 prospect and is just three months older than their top prospect. He hit a grand slam in Game 6 of the World Series; at the same age, the Brewers top prospect was at AA and AAA. Ian Happ is younger than their top two prospects and just two months older than their #3 prospect. He hit 24 home runs as a rookie last year. Kyle Schwarber is younger than their #2 prospect. He is older than their #1 and #3 prospect, but then again, Kyle has already hit 46 MLB homeruns and 5 postseason homeruns. Javier Báez is only two months older than their #2 prospect. When Báez was the same age as the Brewers top prospect currently is, he was busy winning NLCS MVPs and hitting a home run off Corey Kluber in Game 7 of the World Series. Albert Almora Jr is younger than their #2 prospect and one month older than their top prospect. At the same age as Almora when he was busy scoring the go-ahead run in Game 7 of the World Series, the Brewers top prospect was in AA and AAA. (The Brewers top 3 prospects per BA are Lewis Brinson, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes. BA says Woodruff and Burnes have MLB ceilings of #3 pitchers.)
  17. From the BA chat: Cease didn't make BA's top 100.
  18. I'm surprised Law had Ademan over Alzolay. It felt like he was the highest on Alzolay of everyone in the prospect media.
  19. No Cubs make BA's top 100. Eloy was 4, Gleyber 6. Somehow Acuña was rated ahead of Ohtani. Man, Nate Pearson made their top 100. He's been getting a lot of love from Kiley McDaniel recently too. Hope the Cubs didn't take the wrong JC pitcher in last year's first round.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] Josh Harrison trade?
