  1. I don't think anyone disagrees that Guzman starting is the only way for him to help the Cubs, just that it's the best way for him to help the Cubs (and himself).
  2. Man, we're getting Joe Morgan on the UPN broadcast too. :x Should I bother walking to the radio and turning it on so I don't have to listen to that fool? Yay Angels!
  3. Eddy in your sig? Even if he remains a Bull after the failed physical, that's an interesting selection. :P
  4. Thanks for editing in ESPN2, my bad.
  5. Darrin Erstad was a kicker at Nebraska. Todd Helton was a QB at Tennessee who lost his job to Peyton Manning. Adam Dunn was drafted out of HS.
  6. Also, does anyone know how well M Giles and Furcal get along? What about Brian and Marcus? Are they close? Have they ever made statements about wanting to play on the same team? I read somewhere on this board that Brian would love to play with Marcus.
  7. I read the Miami papers this morning, and many down there believe he'll end up being the Marlins next manager. Hoops This would make sense. I guess that Freddi Gonzalez doesn't get an opportunity this season. That's good that he could still be around when we bid adieu to Baker after 2006. My thoughts exactly. :)
  8. Kennedy is now listed as 6'1, 195 lbs; his 2005 stats can be found here. He played HS ball with Rockies top prospect Ian Stewart.
  9. With the series tied 1-1, RHP Paul Byrd (12-11, 3.74 ERA) faces off against LHP Randy Johnson (17-8, 3.79 ERA) in the Bronx. For those of you in the general LA area who are brave enough to listen to Rex Hudler, channel 13 (KCOP) will be airing this game. GO ANGELS!
  10. That was just so enjoyable to watch on TV. That was one of heck of a night for me; I went and saw Common for free right after the game. :D
  11. Against draft picks, and other rehabbing players, though. Actually this outing was in the AFL a couple of days ago. And who plays in the Arizona Fall League is my point. Angel Guzman has never pitched a full season at any level. Ever. Ever. Why on earth the Cubs insist on keeping him as a starter when he clearly cannot stay healthy is beyond me. It's going to take more than what's basically a sim game in AZ to convince me that Guzman can be counted on to give the 2006 Cubs anything. Position players that Angel Guzman should face in the AFL include Stephen Drew, Howie Kendrick, Ian Stewart, Kendry Morales, Lastings Milledge, Billy Butler, Jeff Clement, Nick Markakis, Brandon Wood, Josh Fields, Chris Young and Adam Jones. Drew, Stewart and Wood are top-10 prospects in baseball, the rest should crack most top-100 lists. But who's to say the wear and tear of pitching multiple times a week won't be even worse for his arm? With his ceiling as a starter and given how close he is to the bigs, I don't think it's that hard for him to reach the bigs as a starter.
  12. I've been a fan of his for some time. :D
  13. The Cubs first round pick will remain no matter what happens during FA - the top 15 picks are exempt from the compensation process. I want the Cubs to take the player they feel is the best at their spot, whether they are HSer or college kid, pitcher or hitter. BPA is the best strategy to drafting. And the Cubs draft BPA, they don't emphasize either HS or college picks.
  14. I too have never seen the Bears win a playoff game while rooting for them. :(
  15. But he's so young. I'm thinking the man can add velocity yet... Guys who normally add velocity are guys who need to fill in as they grow older - Gallagher has already "filled in."
  16. I can't believe the Padres have Pedro Astacio starting Game 2. Pedro Astacio!!
  17. Personally, I think most other teams' fans/writers are just as obnoxious.
  18. I have full faith the sun will work its magic on Mulder. :sunny:
  19. Yes, RHP Pedro Astacio (6-10, 4.69 ERA) is San Diego's game 2 starter. Poor Padre fans. LHP Mark Mulder (16-8, 3.64 ERA) for the Cards. The only hope we have is that it's day game (Mulder day games: 2-5, 6.86 ERA, .350 BAA). :D
  20. Jim Callis answered a few questions in regards to draft yesterday at Ask BA. He gave a the draft order as it currently stands (Cubs pick 13), Allan Simpson's top 10 prospects and a little information on what the draft looks like. The highlights: Hopefully Drew Stubbs hires Scott Boras as his agent. :D
  21. It seems like new ownership wants to go on a different direction. From what I have read here and other places LaMar sounded like one crazy dude. Who knows, maybe not playing the kids this year POed ownership as well. There have been grumblings that ownership is on Upton and Young being kept in the minors so the Devil Rays can have control of them longer. Who knows what's going on with the Rays?
