  1. He actually used to look like [gasp] an athlete.
  2. Wow you got yourself a Kennedy-Lincoln type conspiracy theory here. Better look into the names of the pitchers they each faced, count the letters in their name, jersey number, drive yourself crazy etc. :)
  3. If he works at it he could certainly gain the capability to have an ideal OBP for leadoff he also has the raw ability that may allow him to hit for power making him a great 3-5... With this current group of idiots around tho hes automatically a 1-2 because of speed.
  4. Who the toolsiest free swinger they have listed? Just wondering who the Cubs will draft.
  5. Didn't the current Pirates owner make Littlefield pass on Upton and take Bullington because he preferred college players? I was unaware of that. I have really just been voting for players who sound appealing.
  6. Uh oh. You know they'll go after Pods. Pods .271 .272 .395 line would improve our leadoff spot quite a bit. Even if he settles to last years level of .290 .351 .349 it would be an improvement.
  7. A .317 OBP is absolutely terrible. A .500 SLG and 30 homers is better than average though. It balances out to be a solid season for what he his being paid. We'll see. First he'd have to put up that SLG, which would be the 2nd highest in his career. Remember, he's got a history of hot starts, and he routinely fades as the season goes along. And OBP should be weighed more heavily than SLG. Depends on where in the lineup that guy is hitting. The top 5 should definately be able to get on base, with 3-5 also being able to hit for power. If the number six hitter can simply provide good power thats not neccassarily terrible. Ideally you want a more rounded guy, but that wont always happen. It should happen, but thats sadly more than we can hope for with this team. I think the best possible solution would be to trade for a real RF and platoon Murton and Jones in LF.
  8. To answer the question on his defense I believe BA rated him our top defensive catcher in the minor league system. So he should be good enough to backup even if he cant hit well.
  9. Where did you hear that he would come up? We aren't allowed to replace Barrett with anyone while he's on his suspension so someone else would have to be brought down. Unless it was reported somewhere otherwise I think we are going to have Blanco playing every game with Mabry as the emergency catcher.
  10. Roster crunch. In one league I am faced with a dilemna with Coco Crisp returning from the DL. While I could keep him there as long as I want I figure I need to make a move. The tricky part is that this league has no bench, so I don't have a cheap player to throw away. My roster Barrett-C Estrada-C Berkman-1B Luis Castillo-2B Chipper Jones-3B Omar Vizquel-SS Mora- CI Hanley Ramirez- MI Manny Ramirez-OF B Giles- OF Gibbons- OF C. Wilson- UTIL I figure with Casey returning to the Pirates soon I may be able to just get rid of Wilson without harm because his ABs will drop significantly. Ramirez,Giles and Gibbons offer too much in HR RBI AVG and OBP to want to drop any of them and I cant get rid of any of the other players with Crisp because he and the other OF are limited to OF. I have sent out some trade offers to try and get some good pitchers in which case I would drop McCarthay, Weaver, or Blanton. But trades take times for guys to reply, and then usually there is the counter offers which could go back and forth so it is a much longer process. So should I just cut ties with Wilson knowing his ABs will likely drop now?
  11. Should he have taken off his gear first? I think Barrett was out of line today so I wont disagree with you on that point, but the way that reads makes it seem as if Barrett only did that cuz he was protected by the gear, which is a ridiculous assumption IMO.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctsYoWLgtuY That was stupid of Barrett, but if he was gonna explode, at least he took out his frustration on AJ. This just adds to the joke of a season we've had. This wont fire up this team. This team will only continue to falter. I have a suggestion. Trade Barrett for AJ. Barrett deserves to win and this joke of an organization is exactly what AJ deserves. Yea the fans don't deserve AJ, but at this point we are already numbed from the likes of Dusty, Niefi, Hendry, we'll barely notice.
  13. It's not always easy to pitch for the team you grew up loving. Ask LaTroy Hawkins.
  14. With the way we've been playing I counted the streak at one.
  15. If we could get him cheap, and let him show off his talent we could trade him for a better prospect than we gave away once Lee returns. Thats assuming he performs well at the Major League Level, but worth the risk.
  16. I don't know if Dusty is smart enough to come up with a plan like this but maybe he rested them hoping that with Z pitching we would win and he could credit it his new lineup and justify keeping it that way. I remember Bulls fans specualting Skiles was trying to do something like that when they were about to hit an easy part of the schedule after struggling for a while. It was towards the end of the season. Nevermind, Dusty is just stupid.
  17. He could also pitch in consecutive games if he decided to only use the one arm each game.
  18. Perez, Rusch, and JJ, hands down. Way more versatile, and all three of them flat out know how to win. Really hard to convey sarcasm with the written word, isn't it? At another board go to sarcasm is usually written using green. I think thats a great idea.
  19. I have this really cool Cubs bottle opener that plays a Chip Caray game winning call whenever it touches the bottle cap. Other than that Len>Chip
