  1. Here's some various mock jerseys I made a long time ago. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/snetsrak43/cubsprototype6.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/snetsrak43/cubsprototype5.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/snetsrak43/cubsprototype4.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/snetsrak43/cubsprototype3.png
  2. Yea, this is a nothing contract. Every team signs crappy players to minor league contracts. Really with Hendry's track record, we don't usually have to worry unless that player got a major league deal. I think we're safe.
  3. Ugh, I made it about half way through. I need to read this sober.
  4. its like beta like the letter in the Greek alphabet?
  5. Cubs W Mets W Marlins W Dodgers W White Sox (Comiskey) Blue Jays (Comiskey) Pirates (Spring Training) Plus some other teams I forget because it wasn't verse the cubs
  6. And out an extra $3.5M. I'd rather put that towards taking a risk a position we have real holes at.
  7. Eh, if he was a viable option in CF and we could keep him instead of Fuld, opening up a roster spot for another hitter off the bench, its worth the expiriment. Right now, our bench, assuming 12 pitchers: Murton- LF Cedeno- SS Ward- 1B Fuld- CF Blanco- C Heck, even if we want to go get Roberts or a SS, we need to bump a player from the bench, since I doubt we carry 11 pitchers. If you dump Cedeno you have no backup SS. Dump Fuld and you don't have a backup CF (though technically Fukudome or Soriano could shift over there). But if Cedeno can play a passable CF, you are fine.
  8. I'd much rather get Peralta and upgrade SS than get Roberts and marginally upgrade 2B. Soriano-LF DeRosa- 2B Lee- 1B Ramirez-3B Fukudome-RF Peralta- SS Soto- C Pie- CF Now if I thought Roberts or DeRosa could be SS, I'd rather get Roberts. But getting Roberts so that DeRosa could sit on the bench while two lesser players start isn't that exciting.
  9. Hank White
  10. They should just cut to the chase and eliminate all the foul ground at Wrigley. It will be like Arena football.
  11. Don't worry guys, after winning a few Cy Youngs, we'll sign him in 2020 while he is on the downside of his career.
  12. Well depends on what you mean by need If you are content with a team that is good enough to win the central with a not great shot to win the pennant we could stay put. If you want a team that has a realistic shot at winning the pennant, absolutely yes. I think its obvious how everyone defines need so then it becomes a question of making it fit in the budget of 115M o whatever it is Hendry can spend.
  13. The 22 on my username was for Prior... should I change that?
  14. Can't we like hire a little Japanese batboy for Kosuke to talk to? It would be a lot cheaper, and we could use that roster spot for something other than a translator/friend. Plus like others said, Soriano and Lee speak a little. Although if Soriano's Japanese is anything like his English I don't think Kosuke will have long conversations with him.
  15. He has an option, but he won't improve against ML pitching unless he faces ML pitching. If anything he'll probably just develop bad habits at AAA because it probably won't be that difficult for him. We have to either commit to him on the big league club, in a platoon role at the least, if not starting full time, or trade him for someone who can contribute right now.
  16. Everything but the right handed part I don't understand. Edit- Nevermind, I thought you were talking about DeRosa. Looks like you meant Greene. Silly Me.
  17. I know you're speaking of SS. But I don't agree with you on CF and RF. RF for one, we have Murton. Who could have a decent year but he will not be Fukudome good. KFUKU has very good defense on top of better offense. CF you have Pie. And Pie is no guarantee to be anything. So if they do get Figgins I think it's a huge upgrade. 2B is the only one I can agree with you on. I was on Derosa's side ever since I heard of the trade. I'd like him to be our 2B. But if Roberts can put up Derosa #'s + 50 SB I'm still happy with that. So we'll have a somewhat black hole in SS (BTW, it's still much better than it has been in a few years). If we get FUKU, FIG, and ROB I think that's going to be a very good offense. Not only that, maybe we can finally get some stability in the line-up. Figgins could be a huge upgrade or a marginal one. His stats this year were great, but his OBP was fueled by his high BA. It really doesn't look like much changed except more of his hits fell in. If he settles back around a .300 average, which is likely his upgrade will look marginal for the cost.
  18. The way I see it, assuming we aren't able or even trying to dump Dempster/Marquis/Eyre, you have two choices: Fukudome and not lose valuable young players at minimum salary (Gallagher, Marshall, Murton, etc.) or Roberts and Figgins and losing at least a few you players at minimum salary Lineup One: Soriano DeRosa Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soto Theriot Pie All your young players Lineup Two: Roberts Figgins Lee Ramirez Soriano Murton/DeRosa Soto Theriot That just because I can't see all three of Fukudome, Roberts, and Figgins' salaries fitting unless we move Marquis/Dempster/Eyre, but considering that we are probably losing our cheap replacement pitchers like Marshall or Gallagher in those moves, you don't have many options for 4/5 starter and bullpen. If we could get one of Figgins/Roberts I'm not sure who would be better. Roberts is a better bet to hit well, whereas Figgins could fill a position where we have a hole, as well as having "versatility"
  19. Why? Just Cobb's well known racism shouldn't exclude him from being judged on his baseball ability......George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were slaveowners so does that mean they can't be judged as great Presidents? As a minority I don't have to like Ty Cobb as a person, but that certainly wouldn't affect my belief that he should be considered one of the all-time baseball greats..... On another note, I also think Adrian "Cap" Anson to be an all-time great and he was just as much (if not more) of a racist than Cobb was...... I think he was just giving OMC a hard time...
  20. I personally think they would hit it off and be good buddies. They just... haven't given each other a... chance...
  21. I don't know what's all that exciting about trading players making the minimum salary for a guy who is a marginal upgrade to the guy we currently have at his position. I'm not sure theres any deal I'd really like unless Baltimore took back some salary. Even a Marshall/Murton deal would make me say "meh" because I'd rather use them in a package with others to upgrade a position of need.
  22. Obviously this thread has turned funny, but it is amazing that Speaker fell all the way to #52: .345/.428/.500, 158 OPS+ 1st in career doubles 5th in hits 5th in .BA 6th in triples And was by all accounts the greatest fielding CF until Willie Mays with the most outfield assists of all time at 448. Well the weird thing is that whoever it was that put Cy Young at 8 said it was Cy at 8, if pitchers were allowed, otherwise Tris Speaker. So he fell from potentially 8/9 to 52. I think its normal though because one a guy slips past a certain point you wouldn't even think to list them because you aren't thinking about such a good player at such a low spot.
