Well when he passed last years deadline for an extension, he was almost certainly always going to test FA. Is there a report that actually states hes not expected to resign? I suppose this could work out for Pace. Alshon goes out to the free market, gets low-balled, crawls back to Halas Hall and resigns. But when was the last time (if ever) has that happened with any top FA and their respective team? We'll see what lowball even means. The difference last year was something like 12 v 14 right? Even at 14, Pace is basically no worse off than had they agreed on an extension last year. If he gets great offers and you have to match some crazy offer at like 16 a year, Pace has egg on his face, but there doesn't seem to be any signs that they'd lose him for nothing* *assuming they want him, which would be a whole other matter.

Not franchising =/ Not bringing him back. It means you cant stop him from leaving, but thats only a one year fix.

So are there actual decent pieces that just aren't being utilized because we're running a Jimmy centric offense? Or is he just doing it all cuz the supporting cast sucks? Legitimately asking as I dont find much time to watch games these days. My brother hasn't missed a Bulls game in like 3 years, and he wants to build around Butler, so between his eye test, and the stats, I've fallen on the keep side. Get him better players and Jimmy can operate in a better/more balanced offense.

Butler is better but i could see a case where PG is more desirable for them. George has thrived in a motion based offense that involves a lot of passing and cutting for awhile, which is closer to how Boston's offense is oriented. Jimmy Butler does a lot of holding onto the ball and uses isolation to contribute offensively. He's insanely efficient at it but its probably not as great of a fit for what Boston does. I'm sure they would love to have him, but if George is available also I can see why Boston might prefer to go that route. Also we've been hearing conflicting things all week about how motivated the Bulls really are to trade Jimmy. My guess is they don't want to move him unless they are blown away with an offer, they won't move him just to move him. Which is good. Despite being more favorable to blowing it up, I am not super against keeping Jimmy...its difficult to trade top 10 talent, I get that. I just don't see a lot of options for successfully building around him before he gets disgruntled and asks out or his contract runs out and he bolts in FA. Yea theyre prpbably holding out for two lotto picks at least. I'd rather see them roll the dice on building around Jimmy. Yea, they'll likely never truely be a contender, but even if you land a Jimmy replacement with whatever lotto pick you get for him, you still have to add around that guy. Granted you're buying yourself some youth/time, but its not like you get a full 10 year difference between Jimmy and a rookie, as the rookie will have to develop. I guess I just dont see the situation as dire. They have assets like cap space and picks to build around Jimmy. It would be a lot different if those things were already fully leveraged.

I can appreciate fit to some extent, but it seems like a wasted opportunity on Pace's part, and the Cooks value just feels off. I'd rather explore FA and mid round draft fits in thae case they move on from Jeffery. I know what you mean. And I hate the thought of getting rid of Jeffery just to create a hole on a team with a lot of holes. But getting Cooks would provide a semblance of lateral movement at the WR position, just with a completely different look that may benefit Pace's vision. And this is about the only way to not take a huge hit in talent at the position. If nothing else, if trade down is a possibility, I'm holding onto that until the day of the draft in case someone wants to offer up a franchise QB type offer for 3, and I'd have enough capital then to still try and make moves for more WR help.

I think if the Bears let Jeffery go part of it will be because of WR he is. Jeffery is a great WR. But he's big and doesn't create a ton of separation. If Pace lets him walk, I think it will be to replace him with guys who are plus route runners with speed that create separation and can run after the catch. That's the type of WR the Saints have typically gone after, including when Pace was there. And the interest in Jimmy Garoppolo fits the narrative as he's from an offense that features quick WRs who create separation and get the ball on the move. Same goes for Mitch Trubisky, who recent rumors have the Bears very interested in. If you're really sold on Garappolo, a lot makes sense, though in your scenario, the Cooks thing can still be totally independent of that. I'm not sold on Garoppolo, but where there's smoke there's fire and it sure seems like Pace has been sold on him since his days in NOLA. Right- the general "you"... I cant imagine any fan can really have that strong of a view on Garappolo, youre basically just counting on Pace having access to info that fans just wouldn't have. So if we take Garappolo as a "given", its just #11, Cooks, and round 4 pick V #3, Jeffery We'll kind of assume Jeffery or Cooks is around for a multi year deal, though thats obviously not certain. If Cooks represents big play ability, it doesnt necessarily show in the stats, at least in regards to Y/Rec. Y/Tgt looks like he edges Jeffery just slightly. Considering whos been throwing the passes though, that doesn't comfort me. At the end of the day though, a deal like that could be happening on draft day where youve already lost Alshon and the question is; #11 and Cooks, Meredith, White, Bellamy, etc V #3 and Meredith, White, Bellamy, etc. V Maybe another slight trade down to say 6 and targeting Mike Williams, while picking up another draft pick still.

Ha, any time I get Garret I just do it over figuring its not realistic. Would love Watson at 36, but I do think you'd have to trade up into late round 1 if he starts falling.

This presumes Grasu is definitely a better C than Leno is a LT (or Massie a RT if you want to go that route). If he comes in and forces that situation, I'm okay with it, but he has a lot to prove.
