    Well that would be an incredibly dumb way to word that tweet, and yes, the interview was a done deal as it would have required a formal request.

    Because winning comes first in the NFL. Why would Reid, on the week of a playoff game, allow him to take time off to prepare for an interview for another job? I get that Reid has traditionally called plays as a head coach, but doesn't make sense to me to change things up before a do-or-die game. I could see him a) not wanting to stand in the way of a guy's livelihood and a big opportunity, b) being fully confident in his own ability to call the offense, regardless of how well it was running with nagy, and c) doing andy reid playoff things and it sure did look like reid was calling plays Well, Reid letting him take time to prepare... Maybe, I don't know... but there's no way it was a done deal as the tweet said initially.

    I've agreed with those ranking DeFilipo 1 and Nagy 2 with reasons to flip that order, as rawaction explained well earlier. Fangio staying obviously makes a big difference, hopefully that pans out. I could see him wanting to stay with what he's helped build, and of course $$$. Never know after being passed over for HC. Anyways, I'm not saying anything enlightening here. This hire sounds promising. It'll be interesting to see if Nagy calls the plays any word out there on his potential OC? i can't imagine that he wouldn't call the plays it occurred to me that maybe flip could be brought in as OC, but i can't see the eagles letting him leave for an OC gig. He'll be free to leave if he wants, but I'm sure he can get a OC job that comes with playcalling duties if he's going to walk.

    the owners would have to approve, but they also know the increased salary changes the market for coaches. So it's not like they'd all dismiss it out of hand.I think it would be a pretty clear dismissal right away. The salary may change the market a little but I think it will mostly be considered an outlier as it’s a stupid move and more than just a regular hiring, it’s a marketing/PR move for a team re-locating just as much. I think almost every owner would rather have coaches salaries go up 10-25% than start having ownership stakes be on the table for future negotiations. The AAV isn't as much of an outlier as just the years and total I think. Carroll and Payton were at 8 already and Belicheck and Reid at 7.5. Handful of others at 6-7. Who has gotten a deal past 5 years in recent memory though?

    So one interesting thing I did read about DeFillipo is that he's actually coming out of contract so Philly can't block him from leaving for a OC job. Granted, if he has any success, he probably ends up leaving for a HC job the next year a la Gase, but I did think it was an interesting wrinkle to the search process. That's what you can't allow to happen though. 3 OCs in 3 years for Trubisky would be a bad idea even if there is some continuity at head coach. Pace really should have fired Fox after last year or forced him to fire Loggains and give him 2 years with a better OC that could be promoted to head coach in 2019 or just start all over then. 3 OC in 3 years where two of them are good OCs is better than 2 bad OCs in 3 years though. Totally speculative obviously depending on who actually fills those roles, but if Pace lands on a D/ST as the HC, turning to DeFellipo as a possible OC would still be a very good thing. Also read some speculation that McVay wouldn't block LaFluer from a OC job where he was calling plays. So that's be another appealing option if the HC isn't an offensive hire.

    Lost two additional offensive assistants today; Curtis Modkins, RB coach to Denver Jeremiah Washburn, OL coach to Miami Let the lack of defensive departures so far allow speculation to run rampant that Fangio is definitely staying on as DC (Or HC).

    I think the rumor was Tennessee was getting a lot of calls that stopped right after the Bears took Trubisky... there's your caller, probably.

    Here's the current/active coaches with 9 wins/season and at least 50 wins, to give a sense of sustainable success: Defense: Belichick, Tomlin, Carroll, Rivera, Mike Smith Offense: Reid, McCarthy, Payton ST: John Harbaugh Just missed: Pagano (D), Zimmer, (D), Arians (O), Garrett (O), Caldwell (O), Jim Harbaugh (O) Your list presented in anotherway: Defense: Brady, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Newton, Ryan Offense: McNabb, Rodgers, Brees ST: Flacco Just Missed: Luck, Bridgewater/Bradford/Keenum, Warner/Palmer, Romo/Prescott, Stafford, Smith/Kaepernick So it's a QB list as much as a coaching list. I am asking myself now, who are the top QB's that aren't on this list? The 50 win threshold & active status eliminates quite a few: E. Manning, Rivers, Carr, Cousins I'm sure the credit goes to coaches and QBs both and in some cases other ways to build a team (elite running/defense teams), but we all know its a QB league. Nothing shocking there, but I think it's clear that Mitch needs someone doing a great job developing him, even if it's not necessarily the HC.     Not to be cynical or downplay Wilkes credentials, but I can't think of a widely talked about offensive coach who would have met the Rooney rule requirements (other than Shaw maybe, who isn't realistic IMO). So we were almost surely going to get a defensive coach interview with Wilkes or Austin or someone else if for no other reason than being the top minority candidates. Even the official recommended list was short on offensive minds among minority candidates. that was my first thought too but i felt like a jerk for thinking it Yea I know what you mean... On the plus side I've seen pretty much no Rooney rule speculation in the written media, so that's a positive in that journalists finally stopped noting that every minority candidate maybe is just a token interview (yes, the way I did). I feel like in the past, a minority candidate couldn't be mentioned without throwing in that nugget.

Not to be cynical or downplay Wilkes credentials, but I can't think of a widely talked about offensive coach who would have met the Rooney rule requirements (other than Shaw maybe, who isn't realistic IMO). So we were almost surely going to get a defensive coach interview with Wilkes or Austin or someone else if for no other reason than being the top minority candidates. Even the official recommended list was short on offensive minds among minority candidates.

    Granted, it was under an offensive HC, but his work in Philly looks pretty good too.

    I mean aren't these interviews typically all day affairs if they go well? If McCaskey is there, he could be there for the first hour and last hour and be "present" while having little to no influence on anything important. Phillips can be present an extra hour on top of that, mostly to talk about the team facility renovations.

    I'd be worried about a coach who didn't believe they could coach up Trubisky. Not that he is some sure thing, but I want a guy who can adapt to his talent too and not get so narrowed in on a singular QB talent. I'd be worried about Fangino, honestly. Its setting up like a Ryan/Ditka situation. The Defense is good, is there anyway we keep Vic with a new offensive HC? Probably not and that's okay.

    We knew Pace was going nowhere, so this was the best case to make sure the best coaching candidates wouldn't be turned off by a potential lame duck GM. So that's a 3 year GM extension and 5 year HC contract?

    If I were a Bears fan I think Landry would be the guy I’d want the most in FA i'd like an outside guy too Going to have to draft + sign a guy since no fringe guy emerged this year.

    Do any contenders have a mid first rounder cuz he's not waiving his no trade for a bottom fringe playoff team.
