Well that will be interesting if he plays the year out on the tag and isn't traded or signed. It really constricts the cap for the rest of the roster. -
While I'm skeptical of the 1st round value for Carr, that appears to be where the market is at based on the Stafford trade. And it's reportedly not just the Bears/Pace. Stafford's cost was inflated by also taking back Goff. If you aren't paying the Raiders to take back a franchise crippling contract, there is no reason the two should be at all related. And if the Raiders are making the deal in order to facilitate getting an actual star QB, then there is no reason to play along in their overvaluing the guy they want to replace. Based on all reports the market for Stafford was a 1st and something else from multiple teams. So that's probably Carrs rough market as well. Yes Goff was probably responsible for the extra first that they got. I tend to agree on the latter point. Especially if it's the Raiders as the winning team. They're basically just giving up 4 likely non top 10 picks. I'd like the think the Bears 4 first rounders could match that, or they could offer better young D players. So unless the issue is just Watson just shutting out the Bears with his NTC...

The linked story's entire premise is based on getting two 1sts so the Raiders could flip them for Watson. It’s kinda like buying your dream house contingent upon selling your current home (that you can’t sell for the price you want). I don’t see this happening. I don't either, but I'm frequently proven wrong with these sorts of things. I don't get it from the Raiders view though. Yea Watson is way better than Carr, but they already have a top 10 offense with Carr and need help on D. Even if they were to become the number 1 offense in football with Watson, how's he fixing that 30th ranked D?

But won't it most likely come down to just a boatload of picks? Lauri and any other salary marchers and picks + pick swaps. Lavine Beal Williams (ideally keep him) Max FA slot (I assume they can get that) I don't know, I'm pretty NBA ignorant thess days. Is that a successful rebuild? Depends on how you define a successful rebuild. Would we be title contenders if we got Beal and Lonzo lets say? No, but it would be a pretty good team... I think depending on the role players that rounded out the team it could be in the mix in the East, depending on whether that Kyrie/Durant/Harden pairing can figure out how to co-exist together. The concern to me is that Lavine is only under contract through next year and Beal would be only guaranteed through next year too (he has a player option for 1 more year beyond that). So the team would have to come together quickly otherwise it will be difficult to build a team without 1st round picks and limited cap space. Yea, but they can open up that max cap space before that I think. Notbsure what FA is even available and worth it. But with his contract, ideally you want to get the other pieces before you have to extend him again.

More is more when it comes to shooting so I'd absolutely love to see that but I think most of our trade value is going to be with fringe contenders if you're dangling guys like Lauri, Thad, Temple, WCJ, etc. But won't it most likely come down to just a boatload of picks? So Zach is a keeper. With Beal on the market, can the co-exist? Everyone one else/pick would be on the table right?

How do the young D assets of the Jets or Dolphins line up to Smith and Johnson? I don't know, it's kind of tough. Based on the sneak peak we got of the D without Smith and Johnson, I'm not sure the team would be that much better, even with an improved offense. Marginally so perhaps, but they Bears would run low on options to build the D. Are they a division round team instead of a wildcard team, maybe? I don't have the answer to either question but they'd have the most important building block in place. So that alone pushes me into the "dooooooo iiiiiit" camp. You're just never gonna win a ring without one and you're probably not getting one at 20 this year. Although Pace will be 100% willing to trade whatever it takes to get his guy as well being in his last year. Honestly I imagine both teams could put a comparable player pkg together. Tom could probably weigh in on that. That shoulder of Johnson is damn scary to me, as an aside. He flashed star upside no doubt but how often will he actually be available? Personally I don't think we're getting Watson. Yea I'm probably in the do it camp still, but like with no more expectations than what the Cutler years gave us. Maybe one good run and they a lot of other disfunction and 8-8 finishes. But I could finally go get that Watson no 4 Bears jersey I would have lined up to buy on draft night 2017.

Do it Bears. Although I think Watson ends up in San Fran. Starting with 20 i have to believe we would have to go beyond that presumed proposal So 3 firsts + mid rounders + Smith and Nichols/Johnson? Do it Bears. Although I think Watson ends up in San Fran. SF doesn't seem like the franchise that will stomach an offer like it will take. And like the Bears don't have a top 10 pick. They've apparently said they're sticking with Garopollo. Jets/Miami are still best positioned for Watson, IMO.

I guess depending on how you feel about McVay v Nagy... Or Donald v Mack for that matter. They've also managed to at least have a lot of mid round picks so as to not be starting at 5 or 6 man draft classes every year.

I'd expect them to be "involved", but you have to imagine they have to way outbid a comparable offer from outside the division.

Probably less than we'd think. It's so dependent on ARob signing an extension with a team to get good value. Can you beat the likely comp 3rd you could get for him in 2022?

So it helps to not be competing against Houston and against the likely smaller subsey of teams who might be interested in Tua. The Lance question is of course a question of potential verse floor. As raw said, no doubt he has a higher ceiling with his tools. But even if it was a question of 20th and 4th for Tua, you could weigh Tua vs Mac Jones and probably make a case for the latter. Idk if that trade scenario was a matter of Houston not thinking Tua is that good or more of a way to get Houston (3) first-rounders for Watson. Eh. I'd assume they'd want to use one of those 3 on a QB. Unless it's the 3rd overall fromMIA, they are using for a QB, it kind of makes the point they'd rather role the dice on another QB. But either way, it kind of shows that his value is tamped down. And I could imagine not many teams parting with a 1st for Tua, either because that 1st is too high or they'd prefer a more known quantity to their QB search (although arguably so will the Bears).

let's not give up the extra picks though. A 4th in 2022 and a conditional 2023 pick is barely extra. If he's a bust, the 2023 pick is probably nothing. If he's good, nobody will give a horsefeathers about a 4th and whatever that conditional 2023 is, unless it could conditionally be a first, and even then, I think people would be happy to have their 24 year old QB (I think he'd be 24 that year, don't make me do math) Sure, but is anyone really going to beat that for Tua (assuming Houston is not valuing him).

LOL. Why the hell would the Bears send a 1st and 4th and potentially more for Tua? Also, that amounts to 2 first round picks, 1 second round pick, and 2 4th round picks for Watson and a 3rd round pick. Kelemete is nothing, a 31 year old guard who has injury issues and got benched this year. The Bears should easily beat that package, despite not having a top 3 pick. I'm counting 3 1st rounders still. 2 from Miami and the Bears.
