Yeah I just wonder why we made the list. Can't feel overly confident with the offensive staff, or the offensive weapons unless ARob comes back. HC and GM are on the hot seat. He did go to Wisconsin for a year but is from Virginia and doesn't have ties to the area. Maybe I'm just being overly pessimistic about what the Bears have. Not like the Raiders have a better situation unless he wants to play for Gruden and/or play in a climate controlled stadium. I only read part of the Athletic article on it, but I suspect he sees Nagys scheme as a good marriage. More passing, especially on early downs is where he sees elevating his game to the next level. If he did it with QB starved Chicago to boot, he'd be helping cement his legacy above many of his peers. -
Nagy might actually be a perfect marriage for him. Sounds like he wants to pass more especially on early downs. That's right up Nagy's playbook.

Yup, if Zach wasn't apparently ascending as a player you could obviously make a strong sell-off argument. As it stands, the least resistant path to relevance seems to be the FA/trade route to add existing stars rather than playing the lottery draft game.

I think if GarPax were still in charge they would be without a doubt standing pat to try to squeeze out a playoff appearance. Im thinking AK and crew will take a more long term view and not let some success deviate them from their plans. That doesn't mean they will gut a team that has a lot of positive momentum and seems to be growing with a competent coach but I think if they can get some long term value for a piece that won't necessarily gut the team they will strongly consider it. There's also a ton of value is giving these guys playoff experience. There's definitely value in not gutting the team around Zach LaVine to show him you can build around him. Thad and Sato make this really difficult though. The Bulls would likely pull the trigger if they can get a PG for Lauri, but that could cut down Sato's minutes or require Thad's salary to match depending on the PG they would get. Yea, Lauri for a PG is way more up their alley. They shouldn't need Thad or Sato for contract matching. They have plenty of contracts for that.

Nothing I have seen indicates AK is going to gut a playoff team. :dontknow: Can't be bad enough to tank for a top pick. Already set up well cap wise. Making the playoffs and attracting a star or two seem like the path. Theres a window to try and get two stars before Lavine's next deal.

Ownership is saving on baseball ops expenses, so that has me super pumped, being the fan of financial statements that I am. Can't wait to dig into the statement of cash flows this year.

I can't remember who it was, but apparently Ballard is also just still very friendly with the local media guys and they basically just interpret these rumors as his own venting to Gabriel or whoever else pushed that narrative.

I believe that former bears staffer and occasional XFL exec Greg Gabriel said something about suspecting the bears didn’t want Ballard since he was a part of the organization and knows what needs to be fixed? Massive organizational shifts the Bears weren't comfortable with (but were likely necessary). There's been lots of vagueness to it all and Pace has also made lots of big organizational changes himself. So I've always treated that Ballard thing with some skepticism.

Unless Carr materializes its probably: Ryan Fitzpatrick Jacoby Brisset Tyrod Taylor Marcus Mariota(?) Jameis Winston Joe Flacco Any others? Obviously discounting any of the other big-ish names via trade. These are all FA or could be cut.

Fitzpatrick is the worst talent choice available? It seems like they already have a good tank candidate in Foles, though starting Coward again would really put the finishing touch on a tank job. I meant of guys who wouldn't be a joke of a starter. Like, Andy Dalton is out there, but nobody could really see him as a guy who pushes this Bears team to the playoffs. You could at least sell the argument of Fitzpatrick as a guy who makes plays and has experience. I don't think they could even possibly sell Foles as the starter going into '21 without being eviscerated in the media. Maybe you can get by with Foles without being eviscerated if you draft a guy. If it's like Foles and Bray, omg they would rightfully be destroyed. Since they seem intent on competing I'd say go vet FA like Fitz and draft a guy. Just start throwing options out there hoping one catches lighting in a bottle.

I suppose only if they want to be really ruthless with him. Like if they win despite his play, you ideally want to bench him before he hits the 70% mark and save the first. Obviously if they're just flat out sucky its easy to bench him anyways and save yourself the risk of losing a high first. Like would they still try to bring Brisset back as a veteran contingency to Wentz? He's a guy I wouldn't mind if the Bears up having to just get the best vet backup they can to come compete with Foles.

Its about what I would have expected if you asked me a month or so ago what a Wentz value would be. Probably best for the Bears not to be the one to do it, but fairly reasonable.

When I first saw him I legit thought he looked like the kid they'd cast as the hot shot punk spoiled QB in a Friday Night Lights reboot. Turns out he's Bo Callahan. So I was close.

This is a nifty article on him from a month ago brings up some interesting points. It sounds like he's the reserved type who spends a lot of time studying film and isn't particularly outspoken. It also sounds like BYU was desperate for a QB and didn't bother recruiting him until they were pretty much forced to do so, which tells me they knew he was really talented, but they had concerns about how he'd fit with BYU overall. Frankly, I don't think character issues in QBs should be much of a concern. There are and have been numerous successful QBs who are complete weirdos, jackoffs, sexual predators, bigots, and outright idiots. If this causes Wilson to drop into the Bears' lap, awesome, but it's wholly unjustified unless Wilson is doing something like shooting heroin into his forehead during interviews. I just want Pace to do what's best for the team.

This past year was also just not that special either. Sure there's some value to being able to carry a heavy workload with average efficiency like he did. And he's not a one trick pony, he can do a little bit of everything. But... yea I don't see him as a second contract guy. So he has two useful years left IMO. You could wait til 2022 draft, but I'd keep an eye out for the next JAG.
