Well their bigs suck and they have no PG either With last year's version of Zach they'd have about 10 wins, if that. Their bigs are now Vucevic and (allegedly) Theis, which doesn't suck. They still have nobody to really distribute, so that's still a major deficiency. Yes if it wasn't clear I was taking about the new version of this team. There's obviously tons of teams in the PO mix, but from a "games behind" metric they were in the thick of it before adding Vucevic.

Damn, that leaves PG and big man depth as 2 areas of weakness for the Bulls. We can get by with Sato and Coby for this season and still make the playoffs I think but we'll see. I mean after the top 3 seeds it's wide open in the East. I'm an NBA idiot, but how is this team not at least playing playoff basketball? And it sounds like they'll have some cap space. Not necessarily max cap space, but that can always be engineered if the opportunity arises.

Fans expect GMs to create a market out of thin air. The best you can do is be opportunistic, really. AK was ready to strike always.

I also just read that the pick this year is top 4 protected, so this prevents us from really getting burned if the Bulls cant make the playoffs Both of the picks are top-4 protected, apparently. This feels like a surprise - after last night's ridiculous loss to Cleveland I would've bet on another tank - but I guess with LaVine only signed one more year, AK was going to have to pick a lane pretty soon anyway, and this is the more interesting one. Kind of crazy that I was annoyed when the Bulls matched Sacramento's 4/78 offer for LaVine and now he's the cornerstone and almost certainly getting a max extension in a few months. I thought I read an extension for him would be a ton less than if he waits it out and signs a new deal after next year. Not sure what Vucevic does with the cap space they were set to have, but presumably they still want to bring in a third "big" piece before Lavine has to get paid.

How does NSBB feel about this trade? I don't follow the NBA that close these days. I like it. He's a scorer (24.5 per game) that will take some pressure off of LaVine. A little older than I'd like, but I think this makes the Bulls a playoff team this year, which means the picks won't be lottery picks. They are still after Lonzo, and if they can pull that off, I'll feel really good about this team. While, i would be interested in Vuc and Lauri together, I think a lineup of Lonzo, LaVine, Williams, Vucevic, and whoever at the 3/4 with Coby off the bench would be solid. Looks like his usage exploded this year. Next to Lavine he's probably a high teens scorer. But the advanced stats seem to like him over his career.

Lauri straight up? Supposedly they offered Sato+2nd rounders for him already.

I knew AK wasn't interested in any tanking. Hopefully those picks are pretty low value. Though that 2023 might be loaded double draft class right? So that could be a more valuable pick even if they are a playoff team.

When he’s out the D looks so much worse though. Not sure I can say that about Fuller. You can't say it about Fuller since he's been healthy since the one season he missed.

Biggs had already claimed their plan is to pair them. Yeah, I'm aware. That doesn't mean he's right. Nor does it make it a wise move. Though, getting 2 3rd round comp picks if both sign elsewhere would be phenomenal. As far as whether its smart or not, okay. Whether Biggs has good info? Pretty likely. He's usually solid when he reports.

Also looks like they did include void years for Dalton. So only a 5.5m cap hit for 2021. I know many will complain about kicking the can down the road, but as long as you're going for it, might as well maximize the effort. Squeeze whatever you can to build the best 2021 team. Don't like half ass a 2021 effort.

I could be on board with retaining the picks, go OL with the first rounder and looking at a QB pick on day 2 - Mills or Trask - just please, no Mond. Mond scouting reports suggest he' a Trubisky clone. I like Mond from what I've read. Maybe he's got some Trubisky-ness to him, but there were actually reasons to LIKE Trubiksy. It just didn't work out and obviously not as a number 2 pick. In rd 3... Totally different calculus.

In other Bears topics, DeFillipo was at Davis Mills (QB, Stanford) Pro Day. He was a day 3 prospect by most to start the offseason, but seems hes rising quick, potentially a day 2 pick now.
