  1. I mean, if we get specific enough I'm sure you can draw up a 10 win campaign where a 7 win campaign has me more optimistic about 2022-2024. But in the whole, I'll take more wins. But yea, if a 10 win campaign is on the back of like Jimmy Graham catching 1000 yard and 10 TDs, Arob going 120/1400 and demanding a trade, Kmet suffering a Zach Miller like injury, Mooney regressing, and Roquan Smith being outplayed by Alec Ogletree. Yea, I'm not gonna feel great about the future. And they win 8 of those games by 4 points. And maybe there's just a really unlucky 7 win campaign where they have a huge positive point differential, all the young pieces show progress and Fields is ROY. And they just got a bunch of bad bounces. But we're working at the exremes I feel like of what's possible with those relative scenarios. As much as I want Fields to play, I actually don't think his long term success is affected by it one way or the other, and knowing nothing else, I'll take the wins.
  2. Do you even know how to play would you rather?
  3. Damn. (don't care about Woods was just praying for a Foles trade). I think they still have a PS spot I'm sure is for Woods.
  4. I thought they signed him a week ago Re Dalton/Fields; I just cannot fathom a double digit win season with their schedule and loss off Fuller and Leno w/Dalton as the QB. I mean, I just can't get past that. What ever make believe sauce you guys are taking, send me some plz It was reported, but hasn't been official. Someone needs to be cut, IR'd or traded. Crossing fingers for a Foles trade, lol. Just attach our 6th to whoever will take him.
  5. If you're pessimistic then nothing matters. Field's leg will spontaneously combust on the 50 yard line against the Packers and they'll blow a 30-3 lead in the 4th quarter. You forgot, “…led by backup and future HoF’er Jordan Love.” 8-) Take it to the Packers thread.

  7. Anthony Thomas I think.
  8. Just for the record, former QB ROY Ben Roethlisberger 2004 Vince Young 2006 Matt Ryan 2008 Sam Bradford 2010 Cam Newton 2011 Robert Griffin III 2012 Dak Prescott 2016 Kyler Murray 2019 Justin Herbert 2020 The degree of confidence that a OROY would answer isn't overwhelming even. The degree of confidence (or lack thereof) about the standing of a 6 win team, despite that season from Fields, means about the roster Pace has built... Much stronger degree of confidence that we're f'd in the short term. But "hitting" on Fields via a OROY would nonetheless solidify Pace/Nagy IMO.
  9. Look, I want Fields to play. I think he gives them a better shot to win actually. But answering the riddle is itself meaningless other than immediate fan satisfaction. If we're playing a dumb "would you rather" game I'm definitely taking the more wins. And I know that when Fields plays in 2022 he's got a playoff caliber support system. Just purely from a gut reaction, I'm fairly confident the short term outlook is pretty bad for teams with a top 15 QB season who finish with a bottom 5-10 record. Just anecdotally looking at past offensive ROY winners who were QBs and none really saw a ton of immediate team success, especially by the standard of a wasted season David presented (first round exit). But pretty much all those guys were on bad teams. So it wasn't their fault. But even the two of biggest successes of former ROY in Ryan and Newton didn't reach their SB until their second contract. So yea, give me team success all day because they're at least 2-3 seasons away from needing to have finalized their analysis on Fields. There's probably an incredibly narrow outcome of possibilities where in 4 seasons we're still asking ourselves what we have in Fields and being like, "damn, should a player him more his rookie season" Looked at another way, there is nothing that can happen in 2021 that would change the Bears decision making in regards to Fields in 2022. They should have the same outlook and plan no matter what.
  10. I don't think you understand the poll options.
  11. Literally the only potential downside of making the playoffs is if you think it makes the difference of moving on from Nagy/Pace or not (but it doesn't matter either way probably).
  12. Moving up the draft board for a pick they don't own. Brilliant. there's more than one round to the draft...so you'd be moving up every pick. not that this even needs to be a consideration for this to be an obvious choice. A 2, 3, 5, and 6. Call it a 10 slot swing. It's like the value of a mid-late 3rd, net. I'll take the wins and a playoff game.
  13. In either scenario I have years 2-4 of cheap Fields going forward. In one scenario I have a supporting cast that went to the playoffs with horsefeathering Andy Dalton. The other scenario is a bottom 10 team with whats a top 15 passer. And a 4-5 game win spread. The "certainty" of answering what Fields is is worth almost nothing. FYI other past QB ROY include guys like RG3, Vince Young, and Sam Bradford.
  14. Moving up the draft board for a pick they don't own. Brilliant.
  15. I don't need to see Fields to know he's gonna be awesome. And if I'm somehow wrong, it didn't matter that we *knew* or not. Just win baby.
  16. I will take the winning games scenario.
  17. Not sure if less money is true. Anyways they just waived a guy to make room. The Bulls had the BAE to use for that roster spot which I believe is close to $4m. Not sure what Millsaps contract is, but I would guess the Nets didn't have a lot of options for signing him so it would be a smaller deal Edit: Maybe the Nets also had their BAE I'm not sure. I think the Nets didn't have the BAE, but at his experience I think his min is still 2.6M compared to a 3.6M BAE. I'd be a little surprised if Aldridge was a real contender for a BAE contract from the Bulls, but same deal, not a huge difference.

  19. Signing with Nets.
  20. Interesting perspective, although notably they did run out the bad OLine bad QB play last season when they went 8-8. Granted they were a lucky 8-8, but 12th in conference is pretty low. But also, yea the schedule does them no favors. I do think they have a pretty wide band of likely outcomes compared to what's probably typical. It wouldn't take much fir it all to unravel apart, which has a lot to do with how Pace has built the roster the past couple years especially.
  21. I think I like the overton window being moved away from service time as a metric, and my guess is this gets more money to younger players which would be good. As an ownership proposal I'm sure it doesn't add up to the right amounts, but age-guaranteed FA with more money paid to pre-FA players is a loose idea I could see leading to a better result than the current system. This is interesting I'm trying to think whether this would help or hurt late bloomers. Teams like the Cubs keep taking a shot at guys like Wisdom with the hopes that they breakout late and then they have team control over them for a few years. If Wisdom is 29 years old do the Cubs sign him knowing that even in the unlikelihood of Wisdom breaking out, he will be a FA after the season and could easily be outbid for him? On the flip side, those late bloomers will very likely never have a real shot at FA so the ones that breakout will never hit their earning potential. Obviously any system that isn't a totally open market is going to have unintented consequences. Random idea, let players just buy out arbitration years. For the vast majority of players the buyout will be too punitive to be worth it. For top tier players they'll make it back in the difference between arb salary and FA dollars. The buyout would go down over time based on age, so that the late bloomers have a reasonable buyout team and teams get a cash benefit if they find a late bloomer who buys out his 30+ afb years which would be very cheap.
  22. Couldn't unload him in a trade and all his money is guaranteed this year.
  23. I mean every year I think it's tradition for Bears fans to overhype a 6th WR, but Adams did seem like he earned a spot. I'm sure he'll clear waivers and land on the PS.
  24. So Trevathan and Jenkins to IR. Perriman and Burns to the 53 man. But they also apparently got a waiver claim on a WR/KR from the 49ers, so we'll see at least one more cut/waive or IR to finish that claim. Eyes on ILB or TE I assume.
  25. I’m the guy that stated without a doubt the Bears are more or less the Cowboys the past 25 years but don’t get nearly enough credit for it. At least nowhere near the credit the Cowboys get for whatever reason they get a ton more praise. I’ve got to work on my brand recognition if this is the thing people believe about me. *nearly enough credit* just means the Cowboys have gotten too much credit right? Stylistically very different though. The 2 Cowboys QBs in the 21st century would be both in top 3 of Bears QBs all time.
